Great bands ant the weekend. Amazing beers in this eccentric pub. A wonderful community quiz night…read moreon a Thursday. Well worth a visit.

I could pretty much write the same that 'willyum1950' has written as I totally agree with…read moreeverything he has said (apart from I don't live in Addlestone but do live about 2 miles from this pub). This pub is a FANTASTIC pub everything a pub should be. The Barley Mow has many, many regulars and that shows what a fantastic pub this is. The regulars are all very friendly and 'newcomers' are made to feel very welcome. It's dog friendly too and there's lots of regular dogs that enjoy the attention that they always get too. The ale served here is served how it should be. The barrels are looked after and kept at the right temperature in the cellar the pipes are kept clean and all of this makes for a delicious ale. One would think this sounds easy but so many pubs get this wrong the Barley Mow isn't one of them. They frequently rotate the ale and the guest ales are a plenty. Summer lightning and Twickenham ales are regulars I believe. They also sell 'proper' cider but as this isn't my thing, I can't comment on how good it is. John, the landlord, is a friendly, happy guy and clearly enjoys what he does and he does it exceptionally well. This pub continues to win Camra awards year after year and quite rightly so. The live music (Friday/Saturday) is great and everyone joins in. Haven't yet been on a Wednesday but I'm sure it's just as great. Weekend daytimes are great too. It's a perfect place for a pint and reading the newspapers. I have never been to this pub and not enjoyed myself. No beer 'garden' as such but there is an outdoor space with tables/benches that probably seat 50 or so people easily. There's also a car park out the back and plenty of parking out the front. It's a very eclectic place both inside and out (there's a dinosaur outside and loads of lovely odds and ends inside). I'm pretty sure that they offer free wi-fi now too but don't quote me on that. Have been going here for about 5 years now and have no intention of stopping. Will continue to support this fantastic 'local' for as long as I can. Thanks to John and the rest of the staff for running such a great pub. The website has been updated so more info on there http://www.themow.co.uk/ SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL PUB!

The Weir pub has a couple of good qualities, and a few things that let it down. So, good stuff…read morefirst; - Location. This pub is sat next to the Thames. Its pub garden looks onto the weir (hence the name) of Walton On Thames. The garden itself is made up of about 30 wooden tables, so come the summer months, you can get your food, or your pint - I will take a large glass of Sauvignon - and sit and gaze out at the river; the boats going past, people ambling past with their families or their dogs, or even their fishing poles - it is a glorious place to be on a hot day. However, when it is not a hot summers day, this pub reverts to being quite a bog standard affair. It is perfectly decent, nothing wrong with it, but the food is typical pub fare, nothing to write home about (it is just that everything tastes better when eaten outdoors, in the sun, don't you think?) Also, this pub has the problem that it is near precisely nothing. It is down a long road which has nothing else on it, so you have to drive here. That means no more than two drinks and then it is back to the apple juice. If you were to come here for lunch on a warm day, you can walk or cycle or even sail up by coming along the towpath, but that does not sound very enticing on a winters day really. I would save a visit here until it is nice weather, and then bag an outdoor table as fast as you can!

I arrived to The Weir by boat on a Sunday. The Weir is a great big Victorian looking building, with…read morewooden tables with umbrellas attached to keep you cool in the sun. It situated by the river, so you can get their by boat, they also have a path which walkers and cyclist come down. I did see car parking as well. I ordered a lovely Pims for £3:95 and I also ordered a Lamb Shank with veg for £11:95. The meal was a lovely hearty meal, the Lamb was tender with the veg being well cooked, that you could taste the nutrients in it. The staff were lovely, and attentive. Being that the pub is near the Thames, with its lovely surroundings its great to take pictures around the area. The Weir is family friendly and has real nice atmosphere to the place. I don't know when I'll be down these sides again, but I would surely make a stop off.
