The menu offered a few different foods with multiple choices on sizes (by the ounce), and the lovely hostess taking our order was delightful. We had a really hard time deciding what to get as everything looked reeeeeeally good, but we opted to split the following: *Bacon Hash -- 4 oz for $4 -- well worth it! *Barnyard chili -- 8 oz for $7 -- pricy yet tasty *Jicama Tacos (one chicken guac and one chorizo aioli) -- 2 for $7 -- messy but pretty good *Fudge bites for dessert -- $3 for one -- dark chocolate, peanut butter, banana, sea salt, and applesauce mixed and formed in to a hockey-puck type solid mass. It was not really sweet like I expected, and kind of hard to eat. Probably wouldn't get it again. Next time I will totally get the Brussels Sprouts for myself when not sharing with the hubs :) I would say overall this was a 3 1/2 star experience for me as it was over $20 for 'snacks' and we were still hungry afterwards, but a star bump for using real, quality ingredients.

Still, I'll support a paleo food truck when the truck has "bacon (greater than) gluten" painted on the side of it. That's one way to get my attention for sure! On our visit my boyfriend and I shared two tacos--one chicken, one chorizo--fried plantains, and the brussel sprouts. I have so many nice things to say about all three. Instead of corn or flour, Caveman Truck uses fresh jicama as a tortilla to hold its protein + slaw + guac/aioli. It's the perfect starchy alternative to cut through the good greasiness of the chorizo. The plantains are not only fried in coconut oil beautifully, but also they are caked with a curry-based seasoning, providing you with a sweet plantain that also has some savory elements to it. The brussel sprouts--my favorite of the three--are fried in coconut oil and topped with an overload of crumbled bacon and a spritz of lime. It's a little bit of fatty, a little bit of zesty and a whole lot of flavor. All three dishes knocked it out of the park. From here on out, I'll be keeping an eye out for the Caveman Truck on the streets of Indy, because I still need to try the highly-praised barnyard chili and bacon hash. If this is how our ancestors ate, then I can't wait to eat the primal way again!

ONLY IN INDIANA. I've heard about Hoosier Roots since they opened. It's about an hour from my house (thank all things holy!) and it's TOTALLY WORTH THE TRIP. (8 minutes outside Brownsburg) We kept it simple- 1 order of chicken (8 pieces, yep, 1 whole chicken) 1 small jalapeño mac & cheese, and because they had house made fried pickles, what the hell- add those, too. Walked out with 2 containers of left overs, all for the grand total of $37. Hoosier Roots ain't bougie. This is a jeans & t-shirt place. But, dang- the chicken is better than my grandma's out of the cast iron skillet. I would absolutely take my fancy friends from out of state to get a REAL taste of Indiana. I wanted to just forget about it, but I got an email from them asking for feedback. So I explained what had happened. They were difficult about it, and it felt like they were gaslighting me. They refused to provide any refund, but instead sent a reward that expires in 2 months for $5 that I obviously wouldn't use. I'm not really sure about sanitation and cleanliness either. I saw that they wore one glove on one hand and no glove on the other, but they were handling money, credit cards, payment devices, and writing orders. I didn't see any hand washing in between all that, and it just felt really iffy that food was being handled at the same time. Lastly, my salmon wrap was $15, and it was a very small, sad wrap... with an eyelash/eyebrow in it. Not worth it even without the eyelash/eyebrow.

It's a great day because it gets a lot of employees out of the office who ordinarily hunker down during the work day. J&J A Taste of Home Catering offers both catering and a food truck. I, of course, experienced the food truck. The focus was on egg rolls with two major options available - Good Times (with Philly Cheesesteak, includes peppers and onions) and another that I honestly can't remember. I went with the Good Times. They actually have several different egg rolls on their menu, however, they stuck with two for this Statehouse market. All their egg rolls are named after classic television shows. I didn't know this at the time, however, actually picked Good Times because of the show. Others include Happy Days, Knight Rider, Laverne & Shirley, Soul Train, Odd Couple and others. These are hand-rolled egg rolls. There's also a handful of side options and drink options. The employees here are friendly. As I recall, I got two 4" egg rolls for either $10 or $11. It seemed like a good deal to me. J&J also does catering and special events. The egg rolls were quite good - I was a bit outside my comfort zone, however, I enjoyed them and would likely order them again. For those who know Philly Cheesesteak, you'll know what to expect from the look - it threw me off at first, however, once I re-read the menu I was like "Oh yeah, that makes sense." This is a different kind of food truck and they seem to do quite a few local events. I'd look for them at an event!
