An interesting mix of perspectives all rolled into one. It's a reasonable place to stay, but I'd have trouble imagining it as a destination in-and-of itself unless I was REALLY desperate to get away from wherever else I happened to be.
Take-away memory: the 1978 décor in the rooms and immediate surrounds. Honestly, with the smoke-glass mirrors bracketing the doors in the hallway and the abundance of orange and brown... I was almost disappointed when I didn't hear a bad 70's porn soundtrack running in the background.
What made this more surprising is that they'd obviously done a recent refurb in the lobby, bar, and restaurant. Those areas appeared modern and understated. Whether they just got tired after that initial effort or if other renovations are scheduled, I just don't know.
Highlight was actually the restaurant. Food was high-quality with a reasonable selection and well-prepared. Service was U.K.-standard, so I can't ding them for that.
Besides being remarkable expressions of '70's style, the rooms were also about what I'd expect (again, U.K. standard). Not all that spacious and the bathroom was typical. Completely OK if you're used to the cultural shift from similar properties in the U.S., but best characterized as "pragmatic" accommodations rather than "high-end."
Landscape / over-the-water view from Hayling Island was pretty remarkable--again, a high-point. While it might be acceptable for a wedding or similar event, it's just not one of those places you'd plan on as stay-relax type of indulgence. read more
