Awesome place, phenomenal service!…read more We spend a couple of days here before getting on a cruise ship, so the tavern and inn need to be reviewed separately. The tavern was a quaint English pub style place with eclectic decor and an amazing atmosphere. We had dinner there one night and breakfast there each day (since we were staying at the Inn). All of the food was outstanding but the fish and chips were the best I've ever had! The servers were friendly and knew their menu well and we enjoyed each meal. The Inn is upstairs and can be accessed via the tavern during business hours or a private outside entrance all of the time. Our room on the second floor was a beautiful corner room with a big bay window and full bathroom. We really loved staying there. Fully stocked fridge that we were free to enjoy too. The only slight downside (and it's not the White Star's fault, so no reduced score for them) is that the bar across the corner got a new sound system and plays it loud until 0200. Every. Bloody. Night. The manager said that the police were going to be checking noise levels after many complaints, so hopefully it's been resolved! But again, that's not White Star's fault and we heard that other rooms didn't have that issue. Regardless, if you're in Southampton, you need to drop in for a pint, a meal or spend the night!

The inn feels like an old ocean liner from the early 1900s without the opulence found later. Some of the rooms are named after former ocean liners, and thus named the White Star now for England's most famous line, owners of the Titanic and many others, now called Cunard. We had a delightful dinner. It has a pub atmosphere but a bit more upscale as a restaurant or tavern. To celebrate we got a bottle of the sparkling wine from Kent. It was quite good and went well with the meal I ordered a pheasant croquette on a bed of peas and Brussels sprouts. It was excellent My main was the chicken dish which was very well prepared and delicious. The sauce was good and the preparation better than expected for this type of establishment. The portions are substantial and I was quite full and unable to have a dessert. The waitstaff are cordial and really hustle when the crowd appears. A bit on the pricier end, especially with the wine selection, but the quality is good.

The hotel suggested we take a cab but we managed to pull our 24 inch luggage from the hotel. We cut through the Holiday Inn parking lot. I wouldn't recommend you walking unless you're very mobile. It took us under 15 minutes. We enjoyed the hotel. Very upbeat. We noticed a photo booth on the mezzanine and table tennis. We had a choice of 500 points or food credit $10 per person. I took the food credit as we were going to eat before leaving for the terminal the next morning. Spent about another $12 USD out of pocket. Standard breakfast food options. We also had hotel bar food for dinner the day we checked in after the two fish and chip places suggested by the hotel didn't work out. Ordered: * hubby had chicken wings * I had Mac n cheese balls * BIL had chicken curry * sis had egg rolls We each were given a free cocktail voucher. It was like a fruit punch. Also got local beer. There's a shopping center across the street. It was a Sunday so stores closed early.

The bar on the ground floor is pretty cool and I enjoyed all the decor. We were given a complementary welcome drink, which was greatly appreciated. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Unfortunately, I only had about 90 minutes of sleep due to going to bed late and needing to get up early to catch a bus back to Heathrow. The bed and pillows were lovely and there was nice lighting, even a motion sensitive light under the bed so you didn't trip over things in the dark. I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel again. It was nicer than I anticipated and felt "cool" and "trendy." Drink were a bit pricy but there are countless options within a short walk.

The staff is very friendly, wake up calls are available, and tea is available in your room. The outlets are European outlets and you must buy a converter if you want to use your American products i.e. cell phone, flat iron, etc. The English buffet breakfast for $6.95 was amazing, link sausage, English style poached eggs and hash brown's, stewed tomatoes, beans, fresh fruit cereal, steamed mushrooms and more totally worth the price. Many of the locals stop by for breakfast. The adjoining bar next door was a nice place for an evening night cap and the locals gathered there to talk as familiar soft rock tunes like Journey played I the background. We walked up several quaint steps down a narrow hall to our room. Our room was clean however throughout the night there was a turbulent thunder and lightning storm. I had to get up and close each one of the four windows that rolled outward and inward to shut and one window in the bathroom would not close. The staff was friendly and assisted us as we scheduled a cab for our next destination. Four stars because the wifi was not strong or consistent. Worth the money for the experience of history of quaint town of South Hampton, but don't expect the Hilton.

The bedrooms are of a good size, en-suite [bath and shower] but access is poor [lots of steps up and down. [not disabled friendly]. A number of smoking permitted bedrooms are available and the hotel has a parking yard [extra charge] or there are free disabled parking bays [blue badge holders] directly opposite the hotel. The rooms, bathroom and linen was very clean and have own radiator with adjustable thermostatic valve fitted. The full English breakfast was a real plate full and was hot, tasty and well cooked with very friendly serving staff. The reception staff were helpful and attentive but we had to knock on the gates to gain entry after visiting the nearby Witherspoons bar and getting back around 11.00pm. Rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and had more than the usual four plastic tubs of milk provided. Overall a good value hotel and in the heart of the town centre but the one way system takes some getting used to!

The company's expectation it would seem, as that the customer would open a suspicious looking email and click on an unidentified link. Cunard canceled my trip, and 5 hours later when I tried to rebook they told me they'd sell me an inferior room for twice the price and if I didn't pay it they'd keep my deposit. I chose Cunard because of their patina of elegance and sophistication. My experience was akin to dealing with Frontier Airlines

Queen Mary 2 sailing out of New York to Southampton, UK and back in June 2025 was a complete and…read moretotal abysmal disappointment from start to finish. Cunard is the epitome of fake luxury. Recently, QM2 even got the lowest rating for an operating ship in the entire cruise industry (an 87, where 86 is the bare minimum to remain operational), and I for one am not at all surprised after sailing with them. The service from cruise ship port to cabin stewards, to dining staff and more was incredibly inconsistent. Some staff members had clearly worked in high end luxury hotels around the globe, while others had never worked in hospitality before at all and it definitely showed. Our room was located right next to an outside children's play area and directly across from "The Zone" which turned out to be the children's nursery, preteen and teen lounge. Which means, that for our 18 day trip, despite requesting 3 different times to be moved to a different cabin, we were constantly bombarded with noise day and night. Of course children are going to play and keep noise, but on a ship like this, which clearly wasn't designed to host young children, and Cunard even discourages bringing them, people clearly ignored that advice, obviously we didn't want to be stuck with the constant disturbance for our entire long holiday. It's why every other cruise line knows not to put a children's location this close to customer staterooms! Which meant that from starting around 6 AM until about 11 PM every day for nearly 3 weeks, we had kids running, jumping, playing, screaming and tantruming in the hallway outside of our definitely not soundproofed door nearly all day. For a still unexplained reason, we also got into Rotterdam nearly a full day late, which totally threw off my travel plans around Europe. Due to this, the Dutch port authority would not allow us to leave the country until we went through their immigration process, despite not meeting the vessel at the time we got into port. Due to all of this mismanagement, not only did we miss our scheduled train out of Amsterdam, we also later missed our morning scheduled flight out as well. The ship isn't being well maintained or cleaned overall either, with plenty of areas containing stains, mold and mildew and dirty dishes that were supposed to be "clean." The food was pretty good, but very monotonous for a longer trip, with essentially the same dining options served each day. There were also lots of issues with staff that didn't speak English well enough to be serving food, especially not when dealing with food allergies. I had a number of items with specified food allergens brought to my party when dining, even after giving the serving staff written lists of everyone's food allergies. Yet because the service staff didn't have a solid command of either written or spoken English, they couldn't answer questions about what specific ingredients food contained, or figure out how to not bring us foods that contained our allergens. Likewise, the buffet had a lot of cross contamination of various types of food because people weren't paying attention, or thought it was no big deal to use a different set of tongs for various foods. They did not stick to posted food schedules either. If they ran out of a particular food, they simply didn't make more. Or even closed food stations early so they didn't have to make additional food and stay open as per their posted schedules. A lot of the experience onboard felt very nickel and dimey. They would offer a service for "The entire voyage" only to later state that the service period wasn't for the entire length of our cruise as the customers, but what they considered as each individual trip. So during the 18 days we were onboard, they considered it to be 3 separate trips! There were also lots of times their staff was rude or unprofessional, like when I was trying to discuss with the purser's office what my options were for getting off in Rotterdam after Cunard got us into port so late. Yet instead of being a professional and going to get a supervisor, as another lady did when I dealt with a grownup later on for handling the matter, the man at the purser's office was incredibly rude, nasty, insulting and unprofessional the night we got into Rotterdam. Grow up! And go get a different job if you don't want to deal with customer service! Their staff was also incredibly unhelpful with lots of missing instructions in the weeks and months prior to us boarding. I truly regret taking this cruise and definitely don't recommend the Cunard cruise line. They don't give a d*mn about customer comfort and other needs and it showed in everything we experienced in dealing with them.
