There was a complainy woman also waiting to check in but she wanted a room nearer the lift and wasn't up for jokes. Room was up in an ancient manual doored lift and along several narrow corridors with occasional stairs. Good job I'm fit. Not a good place if you aren't. I slept very well and the room was lovely. The view was a bit bad but I wasn't there for a view. I'd stay again.

They offered Jarrold's gin, locally made in Chichester, which my friend really enjoyed with some tonic. I had the large cod and chips, really big and tasty. Note that it still had skin on one side which I didn't mind, but my friend didn't like. It came with a huge serving of hot chips and plenty of peas. My friend and mash and sausages which were locally butchered.

Service variable and as yesterday it was quicker to take the bill to the bar rather than wait at the table on the off-chance that someone might pass by. As for the food, I asked for a well done burger but everything was pretty well done, it was ok and the chilli chips (was that it?) were hot...ok but not exciting. The whole place is so beautiful and the grounds are absolutely breathtaking. The staff are in no way snobby at all which makes a huge difference and they were more than happy to keep the bar open late when we returned from our wedding. The cooked beakfast in the morning was extremely well needed and perfectly cooked. Its not the cheapest place to stay but worth every single penny!

I arrived on Sunday morning and was happy to find that my room was ready and I was able to check in straight away. My room was nice and clean, the room was very floral and the facilities were a bit dated, such as the 80's style spa bath and the security box in the wall! But that didn't bother me too much, it all adds to the charm! I did see inside other rooms that were being cleaned and they aren't all so dated and floral! Downstairs you are able to have breakfast/lunch and cream teas and the seats all looks very fancy and comfortable. As it was nice weather during my visit there were also lots of people sitting outside. I didn't sample the breakfast as I needed my sleep more, but I expect it would be lovely. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I did think the room was slightly overpriced (£135pn through hotels.com), but as the location was great for the wedding I was attending I didn't mind so much.
