Haycock Elementary School

My 4th grader has been here since Kindergarten. He joined towards the end of the school year after…read morean overseas assignment. Mrs. Yoo was the best K teacher one could dream of. Kind and organized and so full of energy. She's still at Haycock. Every teacher after that was great. The leadership and administration team are very supportive and know pretty much every child very well. We love them and only hear great things about them. It is a Blue Ribbon school, and one of the oldest and most established AAP (gifted) centers in Fairfax. Most parents are well educated and very involved with their kids at home and school, which I think is the clear advantage Haycock has over most other communities. Although the average income for Haycock families is high, this is not a "rich community" school. It seems that the community value here is to earn it with hard work. The school is very diverse from an international perspective (international day features an insane number of countries from which students can claim lineage), but predominantly white with noticeable diverse Asian presence. Problems: the school is exploding with students, and it's clear the school boundaries need to be revisited. This results in logistical problems like kids having their lunch break scheduled at 10:30 am or 2:30 pm. Construction has been going on all last year and is expected to continue for 2 more years. Kids are running out of playgrounds. All after school activities were cancelled last year due to construction, but expected to resume this year. The amazing principal that lead Haycock for a very long number of years left at the end of last year, and Fairfax county is still looking for a replacement. These are huge shoes to fill due to the high teacher and community standards, and the legacy of the previous principal. Potential students: please don't come to Haycock. We really could use some more space :)

Even more people were standing outside in the hall. With everyone seated you couldn't see any child that wasn't on the elevated stage. The band teacher did not command respect from the children. The music teacher told jokes that didn't land. The parking was abysmal. There was not enough in the multiple lots or the surrounding streets. People just parked illegally in places that weren't spots in the lots and around the school. The areas that could be possible options were far away and unlit. The children in the spectator area were terribly misbehaved. The parents of these children looked on and allowed this egregious behavior to occur and even took pictures of it as if they were proud. Some kids were coughing non stop as the parents just ignored it. This scene was truly a breeding ground for disease. I would never want my child to be in this school surrounded by these unscrupulous children and inconsiderate parents. This event was poorly planned and executed. If you've ever come to this playground and had to use the bathroom the port a potties nearby are a health code violation. The walls of the inner door were covered in something sticky and blue protruding forward to a point where you would get it on you if you lean back too far. Disgusting.

Today, I received a call saying my daughter got hurt while walking outside. When I arrived, I saw she had injuries on her face, arms, and back, this's not injuries for someone was walking it's like someone falls from high place and no one--not even the teachers--knew what happened. There aren't even cameras in the playground. If they truly cared or were paying attention, specifically with kindergarten my daughter wouldn't have gotten hurt like this, and they should have been able to explain what happened. I can no longer trust them. Be careful--on top of that, they don't check IDs when picking up kids! Anyone could walk in and pick up a child, and they don't manage the pick-up areas properly. This picture is from outside playground area where my daughter felt because of the hay which's it's very dangerous to be near by kindergarten playground with one teacher and 22 kids and teacher wasn't being attention to guide kids

Not to mention, the staff, the headmaster and his family, are all so incredibly kind and an excellent reflection of core Christian values that I want my son to be influenced by. Ms. Weathers pours her heart into these children and my son adores her! She is incredibly sweet and my son always comes home talking about nothing but positive experiences with this teacher. I recommend this school to all my fellow Christians who want a solid Christian education for their children. They are doing it right here

My husband and I enrolled my son in this school. We thought it would be a good experience, a small…read moreschool that is Christian based. Sadly it was a terrible for our entire family. Everyday when my husband picked up my son, he was notified of some behavior that my son did that was wrong. Wrongs committed included: being reminded to tuck in his shirt, having a messy locker, messy backpack, asking to many questions, writing in an assignment that he thought women could be pastors (he was alone in that thought), and using the word stupid. During his time there a student threw a ball in his groin area, that same student threw rocks at him and almost hit him in the head, and was told by a student he would go to hell because of his, religion, A member of staff told us he thought a student was autistic, not our son. and our son heard a members of staff use racist and homophobic language. My husband and I had a meeting with member of staff. We were criticized for buying my extra copies of his textbooks to leave at home. He questioned why my son wrote math problems in the front of his textbook. When I explained I paid for the book, and that my son could write in the book. We were told our son was rude and disrespectful because we are rude and disrespectful. Not the first time a member of my family was called rude and disrespectful. My husband was yelled at by a staff member when he asked "if our son could do anything right." After I talked about the math book, the member of staff tried to keep it. I politely retrieved the book and explained, we would keep the book as we paid for it. We were also chastised for hiring a tutor for my son and told we were to involved in his education. We were told to move out of the way so the school could do what they needed to do. When we asked about the qualifications of one of our son's teachers, we were told that was of no importance and none of our business. The next day after that meeting, thirty minutes prior to my husband leaving to drive our son to school, we were notified by email the school was not a good fit for my family. And that my son did not need to attend school that day. I am not upset that my son is no longer a student but I think thirty minutes notice is not appropriate or professional. Had my husband not seen the email he would have driven our son to school as usual. The school at no point tried to work with us. He was constantly criticized and bullied by both students and staff. For a five (5) figure tuition we found this unacceptable. My husband wrote a review of the school. We were contacted by a staff member and told that if our reviews were not removed from Yelp, our places of employment would be contacted about the reviews. I am not sure what the person hoped to accomplish with that statement. I do not believe that type of statement is/was a very Christian response.

Enrollment fee apply, but are fair to keep out those who are not serious. FCMCC Is diligent about teaching strong principles and habits. Washing hands, sharing, helping set the lunch table, helping to cleanup, and more. They engage in redirecting behavior that can be distracting to other children. As a parent, this is a technique I was not aware of and I'm glad to have learned. I now use redirecting instead of timeout. The classrooms are designed for each age group. There are plenty of learning activities as well as fun toys, such as Legos. Every day my son participates in circle time, where his teachers provide instruction on the topics that they are reviewing. There is also plenty of outdoor playtime and one nap a day. Naptime/Quiet time is around 130 and is for two hours. The teachers are fantastic! They are not daycare workers they are certified teachers. Each classroom has a headteacher with two or more assistants. They are very organized and have activities planned for each day. I'm surprise my son doesn't come home with homework at 3years old :) Every day I am happy to take my son to Falls Church McLean Children Center because I know he's going to have excellent care and education. There are other programs parents can take advantage of through Fairfax County, I don't participate in those however they are available if I need them. Speech therapy is one of them. The office staff is very helpful! Miss Kathy, the director has a lot of experience in her field and it reflects in her management of the center. If you're looking for a place to take your son or daughter highly recommend FCMCC is your go to!

The teachers and staff have consistently exceeded our expectations in making our child adjust to the new environment and making learning fun and engaging. Adjustment time was needed (very sensitive child)to fit into a new environment. But with a welcoming and comforting environment, our child adjusted to school very well. Also, with the thoughtfully designed curriculum that promotes both academic readiness and essential social-emotional skills, our child is very excited about going to school every day now. Communication with parents is superb; the scheduled updates and photos make us feel connected and informed about her activities. The facility itself is bright, clean, and safe, offering a wonderful space for the children to explore and play. We highly recommend Full Circle Montessori School for families seeking a positive, enriching, and high-quality early childhood education experience.

The lack of communication, heavy screen time, and the way our son was feeling about himself made it clear that we needed a change. He would often come home saying he was a "bad kid" because he kept getting in trouble at school, which was hard to hear as a parent. Switching to Full Circle Montessori has been one of the best decisions we've made for our family. The difference in our son was noticeable within a few weeks. He's much more regulated coming home from school, and we've seen a noticeable boost in his self-confidence. One of the first things he told us after starting at Full Circle was how nice the teachers are he said they actually talk to him instead of yelling. That shift alone was huge for him, and for us. Academically, he was at the top of his class in public school, but that often led to boredom. Since he wasn't being challenged, he would try to socialize, which would get him in trouble. At Full Circle, he learns at his own pace with a hands-on approach that keeps him curious and engaged. If you have a child who isn't thriving in a traditional school setting or struggles with the sit-still-all-day model, we can't recommend Full Circle Montessori enough. It's been a truly positive and empowering experience for our son and for us as parents.
