My family and I stayed here while traveling through Killarney in November 2024. This resort came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. Everyone at reception was really nice. Parking was included and no extra charge. Perhaps because it was off-season or because we were not staying very long we were upgraded from our woods view room to a Lakeview room. We had a balcony on the top floor that overlooks the lake and some ruins, and it was absolutely stunning. We could watch the deer from our balcony. The room was quite large and had an American sized king bed, and a second bed that was somewhere between an American twin size and an American full-size, a perfect set up for my family of 3. There was also a sitting area and a tea and coffee maker. We did not have dinner at the hotel, but we did have breakfast and it was excellent. There was some thing for everyone in my family. My husband enjoyed the salmon, quiche and sausages. I enjoyed the pancakes and the fun little pancake maker. I also enjoyed the French toast. My little one loved the scrambled eggs and pastries. Really enjoyed our stay at the Lake Hotel in Killarney. The property is gorgeous with ample space to walk around and enjoy nature. We were lucky enough to get a lake view room. The breakfast was included with the stay and had a wide range of selections for the buffet with allergen labels included. We had dinner at the Castlelough restaurant which was a multi course meal with appetizer, palate cleanser, entree and dessert all for a reasonable price. The presentation was impeccable and the food was delicious. My only complaint was my steak was over cooked and was more like a well done instead of medium temperature. We were here on our anniversary and they surprised us by putting flower petals in the shape of a heart on our bed, along with chocolates and a gift. The room came equipped with a nice Dyson fan, a mini fridge, and a very large handicap bathroom; however, you have to be careful because the floors can get slippery. I liked that there were extra trash cans instead of one tiny one like most hotels that we stayed at in Ireland! They did have washcloths. The body wash, shampoo, and conditioner were all lemongrass-scented. There was nowhere to put your shampoo when showering (no shelf) but a very large handicap seat with back in the shower. The room was very large with big chairs and tables with plenty of space. The water in the shower was not hot enough and the bathroom was cold because the fan was constantly running room. Room 101 can be loud because it's close to the bar and everyone coming up and down the hall (it's the first room next to the entry door); stop and use the guest bathrooms (they are very fancy and clean). There is a nice walkway out to the lake with castle ruins. Overall beautiful hotel with only a few minor complaints. read more

Everything about this hotel was wonderful - lovely staff, the room, the food and drinks and the spectacular location on the River Shannon. We were with a tour group and we all agreed this was our favorite. Downtown Killarney has many shops and we were able to see a show with Irish singers and dancers. I'm not a huge fan of historic hotels and prefer a more modern decor. So my review is definitely informed by that bias. Location - You are 100% paying for the view here, and the grounds are incredible. Food - We ate at the restaurant, which I found to be overpriced for what it was. The presentation was all a bit dated, but then I think this hotel caters to an older crowd. Breakfast was excellent! Rooms - The room was clean, I suppose, or as clean as a room with wall-to-wall carpeting and huge drapes can be. Service - Everyone was excellent!! I don't regret staying here because of the amazing surroundings, but if I am fortunate enough to return to Ireland, I would stay somewhere else. read more

This hotel experience was epic. The views from our room were spectacular! The restaurants were awesome! Breakfast was wonderful. Bar service was great! The only dig was the treadmills were wonky and the jacuzzi tub in my room was hard to get to work, but eventually it worked. My bed was the best! So wonderfully comfortable. The location was great. If I came back I'd stay here again and get out and walk more or rent a nearby bike. There's so much to see here. Muckross house was massive and beautiful, great gift shops lovely hats and clothing. So much nearby to do. So glad we stayed here 3 nights, wished I had another day here to experience Killarney town and all the pubs and shops. read more

My favorite hotel in Killarney. We have stayed here twice now. The service is excellent, the rooms are huge, and is a peaceful place to stay. It's located on the water and it's very common to see the deer walking on the property. There's an old castle/building located on the property that you can walk out to and enjoy the beautiful land Ireland has to offer. The lake hotel is located close to downtown and is only a 10 minute ride in a taxi. If you don't want to go out there are many places to relax and enjoy a cocktail or relax in the sauna, steam room, or hot tub. This hotel never gets old and I plan to continue to stay here read more

This review is for the lakeside hotels Bistro. Our experience here was pretty bad. The food was mostly ok but their service was completely awful. Out wait staff forgot our drinks, never brought side plates for appetizers and then forgot to bring us dessert menus after asking if we wanted to see them. Out of all the places we have been in Ireland this was the absolute worst service and not a single person cared. Steak sandwich was ok but chewy. Prawns were ok but smothered in sauce. This is a review for the Lakeside Bistro. I had a wonderful time. They had plenty of outdoor seating and were able to seat 7 of us as walk-ins. We had a BEAUTIFUL view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The food was pretty good. My family and I ordered fish and chips, steak sandwich and the sea bass. We all enjoyed every last dish. We also had dessert which was pretty decent (nothing amazing but was still nice to eat). The prices were a bit high. Paying almost 4 euro for a diet coke is kind of highway robbery, esp with no refills. Entrees go for about 20 euro and desserts were 10 euro. But I guess one goes to enjoy the view with their meal and we did have a gorgeus view. The service was fair though I'd say our waiter was a bit absent minded. The maitre'd was great and checked in on us often. The interesting thing about this hotel is how EXPENSIVE the rooms are when from the outside, it looks like a motel 6. The hotel views are beautiful. Was a nice relaxing place during a busy road trip. However, as we went to bed, we kept finding huge spiders... all over the room. My guess is the previous guest left the windows open because outside of the windows there were cobwebs and spiders everywhere. After we killed the 15th spider, it was a bit unsettling and we did not feel clean or comfortable in our room. The front desk came up to help us kill some spiders, but could not move our room due to a full house. They said they would leave a note with the front desk to offer us some kind of compensation upon check out in the morning. Upon checkout, they kept saying "there's nothing we can do." Not a comfortable stay. Would not stay here again. read more

This is a review of my dining experience at the Lakeside Bistro. Came here one afternoon for a late lunch as I had thought of this restaurant while thinking of a place we could go to eat and remembered the fond memories I have coming here when I was younger with my family. We were seated quickly even though it was a busy Saturday and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. To my surprise they now offer a vegetarian menu which I figured I would try as it was new. There was a great selection on this menu but I went for the "Three Cheese Pizza" and it all went downhill from there. This Pizza was €15.50 and my partner chose the "Tasty Toasted" which was a toasted sandwich that was €12.00 (pretty steep price for a basic sandwich). When the Pizza arrived, it was a lot smaller than what I had originally thought it would be - considering the price and did not look fresh at all. It just looked like the chef had put some extra rocket and cheese onto a frozen pizza that you would get for 99c in Lidl or Aldi. And I realised I was correct when I tasted it - disgusting and cheap. Absolute embarrassment to charge €15.50 for a frozen pizza, and to take advantage of having a separate vegetarian menu just to serve frozen food from it. We also decided to get dessert in hopes it would make up for our lunch so I got the "Caramel Tarte" which was vegan. Again it was extremely frozen and difficult to eat as it was so cold - it also had a strong taste of coconut oil which I normally don't mind but it got to a point where I couldn't eat any more of it as the taste was very over powering. Super underwhelming dining experience here after having so many fond memories of this restaurant. The quality of the food has declined majorly. read more

Where to begin!! Firstly the view is spectacular and the food in the bar/restaurant at any time of day is unbelievable. Everything was freshly made and the selection was so good. I cannot recommend the standard of food anymore highly. Also the cute deer drinking from the lake outside was amazing. Unfortunately this is where it began and ended for the pros of the hotel. We paid quite a high rate for our 2 nights at the hotel and so as it was so expensive we opted to pay that little more and get one of the exec room with a four poster bed. At check in we were told that we could either drive to our part of the hotel or get 2 lifts and walk some stairs to get to our rooms! (em so 500 quid for a 3 star hotel doesn't pay for a lift to your room obviously) I was really unhappy with this and it became more annoying as the weekend went on as you couldn't just run back up to your room if you wanted. It was quite an ordeal!! The room was nothing like the pictures. Very unimpressive for the price to say the least. A bog standard room with a tiny bit more space than any run of the mill room I have stayed in before. Very old fashioned and quite dusty. The so called jacuzzi that was advertised was a bath with air blowing out the sides again very very disappointing. I knew there wasn't a pool but when we asked if there was any pools nearby we were told there was a hotel across the road and we would have to pay. again very frustrating considering the price. Outdoor hot tub wasn't that hot and considering were in Ireland most people I was chatting to said they could only sit in it for a minute or 2 as it was not relaxing at all. Staff on reception were not all that helpful in giving information. All in all extremely disappointing stay here and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone looking to get value for money. So so so much more than I was expecting, and it made for a perfect weekend. My mam and I came down here for the night to get ourselves some spa treatments and a relaxing bit of space out by the lake, and we got exactly that. The hotel is real old style, with open landings and taxidermy, and a selection of places to sit or eat including a guests-only library room and a piano bar. We first went to our spa treatments, and here was where the weekend really kicked off. I wish I had taken the girl's name but she was a small, pretty brunette with, as she said herself, nobbly fingers for a great massage. My mam went first and I sat out in the hot tub for 40 minutes which was pure bliss after the drive down. The view from the hot tub is something else, and we even got sight of the stag there. My massage was expertly done and the girl couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating, talking us through the different treatments and getting us the best deal for value. She gave us lovely robes to wander about in and it was a real spa feel, with the wild outdoors within touching distance. The room was lovely too, gold tones and comfy beds. No fridge, which we considered might be a problem, but the bar staff kept our icebucket full for our prosecco. In the evening, after a long chat and getting ready in the room, we went to the Bistro for dinner. We didn't want to go for the overly fancy affair, being as relaxed as we were, and I think we made a great choice. We had some nice wine, and I had the fish and chips, my mam the hake. We sat for hours chatting until some live music started up in the bar next door, which kind of opens to where we were. We went out for a late evening walk and the stag came back, stalking us along the lawn until he was sure we weren't a danger, and heading off into the forest. Really magical, and made our night. On returning we listened to the music over a final pint and chatted with the really lovely barstaff, one of whom even remembered my name at another stage, which I thought was great. We had a lazy morning and one last walk around in the brisk autumn morning, and went on our way. read more

This is a really beautiful hotel overlooking the lake. A group of us were there for a hen and we were treated royally - we even got a boat trip from the stone dock on the hotel grounds. Our rooms were quite large and all had a view of the lake, and we had these little terraces - its almost a shame we spent most of our time in Killarney gallivanting! The food was really good, and the staff were always pleasant and helpful. More than that even they were up for having the craic with us as well! We did get lost a few times trying to find our rooms... what can I say? Drink was taken so that may not be the fault of the hotel! read more

This hotel has gorgeous views and our room was very pretty. The grounds were wonderful to walk on and the staff was great arranging a Gap of Dunloe hike for us. We also were able to walk to Muckross Abbey and House straight from the hotel; lots of trails nearby. The only drawback is the service in the restaurant and Bistro. In December of last year, my daughter booked a two-night stay in the Lake Hotel Killarney for myself and my husband. As this was a rare trip away for us (he is very ill and cannot leave the country) we decided to pay extra money for a Master Deluxe suite. The main difference between a Deluxe Lake View room (which was cheaper) and a Master Deluxe Lake View was a Jacuzzi bath in the bedroom and a refrigerator. We paid €398 for a two-night stay in a Master Deluxe Suite and I was so looking forward to relaxing in that big Jacuzzi bath overlooking the lakes. However, this wasn't to be. You can see from the pictures what we were promised versus what we experienced - not a rose filled bath but a dirty Jacuzzi filled with muddy water and scum. As this was the last day of our little holiday I didn't get to experience what I had paid extra for and I was very disappointed with how the hotel handled this failing. I should also note that the refrigerator in the room was not working. The hotel offered us another night in the hotel at a reduced rate. I find it hard to understand why they felt we should pay them extra money to compensate for a failing on their end. €398 is a lot of money for us and as I said earlier it was our first little holiday together in over two years. I have since followed this up with my daughter and we have received no satisfaction from the hotel, in fact I have been quite shocked at their lack of concern and consideration for their customers. Therefore, I cannot say I recommend this hotel following their treatment of us, in fact quite the opposite, I will never stay in the hotel again or recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of lovely hotels with beautiful views in Killarney which I'm sure provide much better customer service. I suggest you book with them. read more

The Lake Hotel is absolutely amazing and I highly recomend staying here if you visit Killarney. It is a little ways out of town but a short taxi ride and the scenery is way worth it. On the nights we were there the deer were out walking around the lawn right in front of the restaurant and then later in the night walking around in the lake right in front of our room. It was an amazing thing to see. The restaurant and bar at the hotel are also VERY nice. I had probably the best salmon I've ever had at the restaurant there and the food in the bar is also very good. There is a bar tender there names Ben and he was very helpful and friendly, if you go you must say hi to him. They also have live music in the bar 3 or 4 nights a week, we went 2 nights and both nights were great! This hotel was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland and we will absolutely be staying here again when we return. Hopefully next time we will stay longer. read more

Beautiful location...where we were eating you could look straight out onto the lake. The pie that I order was delicious, it had a nice flakey crust and creamy filling. You got good size chucks of meat, and I'm glad the gave you some extra gravy on the side, so you could add more as you please. The vegetable side was okay, I added a pinch of salt and pepper, and some gravy..and it made it that much better. If I make it back, I'll be sure to grab a meal from here. read more

My wife and I stayed there in May. Hotel was nice, but a little dated. We paid a little more for a room on the 5th (top floor). We had to take the elevator to the second floor, walk 150 yards to the elevator that will take us to the 5th floor (a little inconvenient but the rooms are newer and nicer) we over heard a customer complaining about the hot water in the older building saying it wasn't working. The staff said it has to be run for a long time and it will start to warm, but not get "hot". Dodged the bullet on that one. I would not recommend eating in the restaurant at the hotel except for the breakfast buffet. We had dinner there one night, our waiter was rude to my wife when she asked him for a wine suggestion. We were getting the worst service in the dining room and when we asked him if we can get a new carrafe of water, he comes back with a much larger pitcher of water, slams it on the table and says "here's you water" and marched off. I am clearly angered by this behavior and that my med-rare ribeye is still frozen in the middle. The manager sees I'm pissed and comes over to ask what's wrong. I ask him if we had done something to offend our waiter cause we don't understand why we're being treated so poorly. He comes back after talking to the server and tells me I'm making it up...i'm livid now and ask for the check before I start making a scene. The manager assures me that he will not be comp'ing anything on our bill because he is positive we were wrong. I told him I didn't ask to have the bill adjusted, that i merely wanted to pay what I owed and leave. 10 minutes later he returns. I've worked in restaurant for 10 years and I can say that they don't know what they are doing. Hotel and views were spectacular, restaurant absolute garbage. read more

we were a little sad and disappointed by our stay at Lake hotel. Of all the stops on our Holiday through Ireland it was definitely the most pricey hotel stayed at, and unfortunately was our least favorite stop. To be clear, the hotel grounds and view of the lake are definitely 5 stars. if we had just popped in for and afternoon meal and some pictures at the castle ruins, it would have been more than enough. Sadly the hotel itself was dingy and dated. And don't get me wrong, I love a vintage/antique feel. But vintage shouldn't be synonymous with dirty and that's how we felt our entire stay here. Our room actually smelled like dirty laundry. we had to keep the windows wide open despite the cold and wind, just to air it out enough to make it bearable. When walking by some of the other rooms during cleaning time I did notice that newer carpet had been put in several of the other rooms, but ours was definitely dated. given the fact that this region is continually damp, maybe carpet isn't the best choice? To dampen the experience even more, the service was pretty blah. This surprised me the most considering literally everywhere else we went in Ireland there was exceptionally good customer service. the reception staff didn't have the same perkiness we experienced elsewhere and the wait staff was frazzled at best. it seemed as if there was no particular person assigned to an area so we had to grab whoever was rushing past us just to put in our order and grab the check. To be clear, we stayed 2 nights and had several meals here so it wasn't a one time occurrence. Out first meal we actually had to ask the waiter 3 times to bring us water before it was finally delivered. This hotel has so much potential due to the location and history behind it, but the management really needs to do something quickly to spruce up the rooms and improve on customer service. The hotel is in a very nice area of town and the view was great. The hotel staff was horrible to deal with and quite rude. While staying there, I came across a lost dog and informed the staff that there was a stray dog outside. The manager told me that he would call someone while I stood outside with the dog and would be right back. After standing outside for over 45 minutes, he never showed back up. I went back into the hotel to check on things and he said there was nothing he could do, he just left me standing outside for almost an hour without regard. Also, the room smelled like it was wet and moldy. I didn't get to sleep much that night due to all of the loud noise coming from downstairs and the bad smell of the room. For the price, the room and service was nothing of what I would have expected and other than the view, there is nothing to see at this hotel. read more

This is a tourist-trap establishment. Nice accommodation, but feels like a low-grade Marriott (hardly worth the price paid). We made the mistake of eating in the bar. Salmon was awful, yet particularly expensive. The bread was obviously frozen. Chowder was bad. The only redeeming quality was that they poured a half-decent pint of Guinness--and you can get that in almost any pub in Ireland. read more

We arrived early and as soon as the occupants of our room checked out, they had it cleaned. Amazing. So why only three stars? The host at breakfast, an Eastern European fella who not only looked greasy but looked at us as if we were stealing. We had lunch in the bistro in the Lake Hotel today. I am coeliac and I must say they couldn't do enough for me even though it was a busy Sunday lunch. I had the most beautiful roast beef dinner ever and it came with dairy free veg and gluten-Free chips! Sooo happy! :-) All the other people in our party really loved their food too. Best meal since I have been diagnosed and I can't wait to go back! For the pricely sum of € 15.50. Wonderful food and lovely service! read more
