By far my least favorite hotel of all we stayed in while visiting Ireland. It's beautiful, in the lobby, restaurants and outside, but it ends there.
The front desk staff (different people over two days) were not very energetic, enthusiastic, or even remotely helpful in terms of meeting guest needs or even engaging in simple conversation. (Just one example: The WiFi-which is only available in the lobby-not even available for an extra charge in the rooms-was down both days we were there.) Using WiFi for international travel communications is very important and should be a priority to fix as soon as possible.
The morning breakfast staff in the Abbey Restaurant were curt and unpleasant in a passive aggressively rude way. The food selection was minuscule and of poor quality.
The tour group dinner meal was decent in the Kayne Restaurant, but the portions were small and the "dessert medley" was literally a smaller than a thumb slice of fruit bread, a spoonful of ice cream, and a one-bite cream puff (the kind I buy in bulk at Costco for potlucks).
The hotel uses real keys for entrance, but the locks operate strangely. I witnessed many guests in the hall standing there just spinning and spinning and spinning their keys without the door unlocking or opening.
The hotel room was a decent size and the "antique" furniture was usable, but the bathroom was patched together (bad repair of cracks in the walls and along the tub) and the shower curtain did not have any weights in it or a liner so the entire shower the curtain kept blowing in the tub and sticking to your skin (or soaking the floor if you decided to leave it open).
Also our room had no outlets near the beds without having to move furniture to access them, which is inconvenient for charging electronic devices that might serve as alarm clocks or sleep/breathing machines. read more
