The Olde Glenbeigh Hotel - The amazing fish and chips. Delicate breading, fried to perfection. Of course with the pairing of a guiness :)

We happened upon The Olde Glenbeigh Hotel, by chance in September, 2022. Our one regret was that we…read moreonly spent one night. The rooms were large, comfortable and clean. The food, both breakfast in the dining room, and dinner in the tavern, were delicious, perfectly Irish, and served by the kindest staff. Not to mention the friendly welcome, lovely village, and beautiful surroundings. Definitely worth a visit. And definitely on my 'return to' spots in Ireland. We highly recommend.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but we did come to the pub restaurant, more than once for sure. From the moment of entering, you know this will be a special meal. It is literally like stepping back in time. Multiple open fireplaces, traditional music playing (on Sunday evenings), a busy bar and restaurant. All good signs considering we were touring Ireland during the "off season". I mentioned that fact to the front of house manager Marie as she helped clear a table, her retort was a confident and humurous "sure its always like this", and after our multiple experiences, I can see why. I basically had everything on the menu at least once. Some particular favorites were the bacon and cabbage, the chicken curry served with naan, fish and chips (pictured), and the starter wings. I begged to get the recipe, but apparently its a top secret and absolutely delicious. We had those every time we went. My wife adored the Darne of Cromane Salmon. All produce was locally sourced and proudly. Cromane is a nearby fishing peninsula, a lovely drive just five miles away as the crow flies. The salmon was so tender it was as if it was cooked sou vide. Tender, delicious and buttery good. Americans will appreciate the portion sizes, and everyone will enjoy the quality ingredients and expert cooking skills of the head chef. We will definitely be returning to the Olde Glenbeigh. A historical building which predates many surrounding buildings, set in an idealic coastal town on a heavily traveled route on the ring of Kerry. Don't be fooled, this place is a must stop on your journey, and if you have time, spoil yourself, have a couple pints, and stay the night. You won't be disappointed.

Reception staff was adequate, though not warm and fuzzy. Manageable 10 min. walk down the driveway hill and main street into Dingle. The hill may be long and steep for those with difficulty walking or who are in a wheelchair. Private parking for guests. We went in April and were rather put off by the overwhelming smell of the neighboring fishery. It is powerful and sure lets you know you're back at the hote driveway! However, the smell did not permeate the lobby or our room, so as long as you know that you can overlook the temporary breath-holding as you go by. Good location for the Dingle Loop Drive. We did not opt for any food at the hotel. Overall, it was a decent location, decent room, decent price, and a good bargain hotel.

Even the extra days I started beyond my reservation were booked at the hostel rate for the room to myself. A huge, heartfelt thanks! The room was cleaned daily, fresh water, biscuits, tea added. WiFi wad solid. Staff were friendly, chatty and helpful beyond belief. The view is stunning, it's just outside of town(so very quiet), although like most weekend nights it got a but noisy one everyone came back from drinking. To be expected in Ireland. My only negatives: the bed was an old spring coil that left my back sore, and you have to lock the door behind you with the key (not a big deal, just noisy and difficult to manage even sober). I'd come back here in a heartbeat.
