Great location and the hotel is very nice looking, but we aren't that comfortable here. Heavy dual shower curtains make for a dark shower in a very narrow tub. If you have any issues with balance, consider taking a bath instead. Beds are OK (twin beds) but not as comfortable as we typically encounter in our hotel stays. Lobby is beautiful, and hotel woodwork is very nice. Staff are OK, but not as friendly as other hotels we've visited in Ireland. Breakfast was great.... staff there were a little cheeky.

Stairs in the main hall.

Haven't seen better hotel anywhere yet. I'm not a big traveler, tho. Okay, boys and girls, let's drop the ace here - location! Best possible location I could imagine. Everything is, like, two minutes away. Wanna go to a restaurant in town? Two mins*.! Wanna rent a bicycle? Two mins.*! Wanna go for a boat cruise? Five "two mins.*"! Staff was lovely and helpful. Have to give credit to restaurant! Waiter was tasked to get me a after shave lotion, because I forgot mine and realized that only after finished shaving. Waiter reacted very professional to my request and came back later with the stuff for no cost. He enjoyed tips later :-) Room wasn't as spacious as I'd like and as other hotels have some time, but it was enough of it, I mean space. One of the strong points of this hotel is SPA. Other hotels around the area may not have SPA. I'd give SPA five stars also. Despite that, it isn't too big. * Two mins. are relatively even to 120 seconds. Two mins. is more of an Irish saying with approximate time of two mins. which may extend to longer period of time. F.e., 10 mins. :-)

The hotel itself feels warm and sophisticated with many areas to take a seat and relax near a fireplace or in a quieter area. This is a great destination for rejuvenation and restoration. The restaurant near the lobby is exceptional with meticulous attention to every detail of service, though you may need a reservation. The presentation of food and allergens are neatly detailed for every offering with many gluten free options. The food was delicious and perfectly prepared and the service exceptional. The room itself is very well appointed and laid out in one of the most travel friendly designs I have seen. A desk, a seating area with a table to enjoy your morning beverage by the window, a refrigerator neatly hidden under the television. A closet with ample space but also a shelf to organize your travel items and clothing on the other side of the room wall so things stay neatly out of site. Thank you to the designer of this room! Robes and slippers for two placed at the foot of the bed. A nice size Tv and coffee or tea service at the desk. The bathroom includes both a shower and a comfortable size bathtub. The hotel also offers a nice bar downstairs and please consider making a spa appointment to enhance your experience. If you are in the area, this is the place to stay.

The Malton Killarney Hotel - Garden Room Restaurant

4.5 stars Full…read moredisclosure: We received a complimentary room upgrade to a Junior Suite at check-in and were placed in the room located directly above the hotel's main entrance. We were also treated to a complimentary sample of sweets in celebration of our honeymoon. The Malton does "historical hotel" right. It successfully achieves an elegant and vintage atmosphere without seeming "dated." The building itself makes a memorable impression covered in ivy surrounded by beautiful gardens. The Malton is an oasis in the heart of Killarney - within walking distance of all the shops and pubs. The room was gorgeous and the bathroom was supplied with modern amenities that still kept that classic touch. It's worth noting that the hotel does not have air conditioning, but we still found our room to be comfortable. Our only complaint about the room is that it is a little noisy (because of its location about the entrance, no doubt.) Breakfast included the typical array of pastries, meats, and cheeses, but also featured a made-to-order hot food menu with ample variety. The Belgian waffle was worth noting - it was coated in cinnamon and every bite was scrumptious. (It's a bit small though - order 2!) Unfortunately, the restaurant is not managed very well during breakfast. You must wait to be seated by a host, who may then take your order for coffee/tea and toast to pass along to your server - which really slows the seating process. The dining room is tightly packed, making it a little difficult for wheelchairs or strollers to maneuver. (Even on foot, winding your way to the buffet can be difficult.) One thing I wish we had done, but didn't have time - the Malton's wine tasting room!

Three lattes with scones later in an elegant lounge area reeking with character as a former Great Southern railway hotel, we moseyed off to our meeting resolving unanimously to return for lunch before our afternoon train if time permitted. Which it duly did. Steak sandwiches for two and salad for the sad vegetarian were deemed excellent. As it was Friday and we'd had a productive meeting I awarded myself a beer. At 2 in the afternoon. Such decadence. Thus replenished we boarded our train back to the shmoke. If the rest of the hotel is anything like the food in the restaurant I will definitely stay here should the opportunity present. Excellent.
