I have to defend David's Hairporte for one reason.... Diane. Diane has been cutting my hair for 11 years and I used to see her at Cutting Loose in Concord. When she transferred to David's Hairporte, I followed her because she is the only one I'll allow near my hair. I can't speak about the work of anyone else in there because Diane is the only reason I step foot into that salon. It caters to an older crowd of ladies and hasn't been renovated in years... It looks like a salon from the 70s. It's old school charming. The people there are pretty friendly and there is usually a good story going on somewhere in there for you to overhear. If you need a haircut or color or highlight, Diane is my girl. I'd let her do my hair in a dark alley with box dye and a pair of gardening shears if it came down to that. She's amazing and the only one I trust with my hair! read more

If you are looking for a new place to get your hair colored & styled, don't ever bother asking if this shop can do the job! I explained my hair dresser had retired after 15 years of coloring & cutting my hair. I had a color formulation on paper in my hand to see if they used the products listed or they had an equivalent. I was told, by the receptionist, they do not use the same product line and told, "If you have used these products & this formulation for over 10 years, I don't think we can satisfy you." I replied, "If I don't try your services, I will never know." Again, I was told, "But, if you have used these products and this formula for over 10 years, I don't think you will be happy." At that statement, I immediately left. It was a lame answer to my question. Someone was too lazy to research my formula for an equivalent with their "in stock" products. I was willing to schedule an interview at a convenient time with an operator to get my question answered or listen to explanation for such an antagonistic statement! Terrible experience! I was not seen by an operator nor did anyone touch my hair to see what they might be working with! All communication was through the receptionist who made the decision & these infuriating statements. They clearly did not want or value my potential business! If you are looking, save your time. Don't bother checking here! The reason I give them 1 star is because Yelp! will not allow the leaving zero stars! read more

I was in a bind when my barber retired. Where would I go? What would I do? I started at the place nearest my house. Bad idea, bad haircut. I went to a place recommended by a friend: closed on my days off and attitude to boot. I went to one of those new Sportscenter places where they try to convince you a former sideline reporter cuts your hair. I left with dried blood on my neck. Then I found the Hairporte. I walked in on a whim and met Terri. I was a little skeptical at first because much of the clientele has nylons older than me, but after nearly two years of good haircut withdrawal, I had found a new place. Wow, I am so impressed with Greg. He is the best. I've been looking for a barber for my son. My son hair is very thick and it's been always so hard to cut his hairs and every places we went, was never 100% satisfied with the cut. But I took my son to Greg couple days ago and he cut my sons hair amazing! He was so good with my son. Mind you my son is only 2, and I can tell he's great with kids. I was charged $45 for a hair trim, and left a $10 tip because that's the norm. I felt $45 was steep for a trim. My hair cut was done by Ray. He did a good job on me, I think. Because my hair is long, I can't really say how dramatic the new cut is on me. He didn't speak to me the whole time. Hair cutters always chatter, I've never experienced a non-chatterer. So this was something I wasn't used to. I haven't figured out yet if he was in a mood or he is just a non-chatterer. We moved back to the Bay Area a few years ago and I tried many places to find someone who could do a good job cutting my hair. I wear it fairly short, it is curly but not thick and heavy. TERI IS THE ONE! She knows how to cut curly hair. There is more to a short haircut than whacking it off and Teri has the skill and knowledge and does it correctly. Teri has had some medical problems the past year but I saw her last week and she is doing well and once again tamed my somewhat unruly locks with a really good haircut which looks great from day one. I highly recommend Teri, I know she has all the skills (color, etc) but I cannot comment as I do not have experience with that. Price is reasonable and parking is easy at David's Hairporte. I love David. Simple. I got a really bad haircut from another salon, you know one of those high end cutting edge places with the latest decor. I went in to see David to see if there was anything he could do to fix the mess that used to be my hair. Not only did he fix my horrible haircut, I now have a great new hair style but a new stylist too. Contrary to some reviewers, the shop does have clients of all ages, just depends on what time you are there. As for the decor, I paid good money for a haircut in one of those "new now" salons and had to come back to a true professional to get my hair cut correctly and professionally. I pay for a hair cut and style, not decor. I learned the hard way that decor is not always the best indicator of quality. I love David, I love the folks who work in his salon. I have been going to David specifically for the last two years. After my first dresser moved to Palm Springs he suggested I take him. I have always been satisfied with my haircut there. The price is right, $35 a great haircut at a price lower than most other salons. I enjoy the nostalgic charm and the hair washing stations that the chair you get your cut in swings into.
