Cute little spot, I made reservations for 4 @ 7p and we were seated promptly when we arrived. We ordered a bottle of wine and two apps, the artichoke dip and a sushi roll. Wine came out promptly, artichoke dip followed, we placed our entree orders and that's when things started going south... No less than three minutes after ordering entrées and before the second appetizer came out the other couple we were there with receive their entrées #awkward We sat waiting, as their shrimp and grits and red fish started getting cold...the waiter came around and noticed the situation and went to check it out, that's when the second appetizer came out. Two entrées on the table, an appetizer arrives - two empty plates on the other side table. We finally receive our entrées and everyone digs in...the food was fantastic, really delicious all around...BUT, timing is everything and this isn't the first time it was off. This Kitchen is Cookin' The Kitchen is located in a converted home that's housed restaurants for many years and is quite charming. The staff is super friendly and helpful and seemed to genuinely care that we had a great experience. We started with a couple of their house cocktails which were very good. For food we began with a cup of their special lobster bisque which we enjoyed and the Brussel sprouts which were great with a lemony/balsamic sauce. For entrees we had the Chicken Marsala and the Pork Chop. Both were delicious and we had plenty to take home for a meal later. Their wine list was pretty good and the prices were quite fair. This restaurant is situated in the small town of Safety Harbor, Fl in a renovated house. The ambience was great- this however is the ONLY good thing about this place. After that, it all goes downhill. We ventured out on a Monday night, the place really wasn't that busy though it still took forever to be seated. Once seated, again it took forever to be greeted by a waitress, and when she finally appeared, our top two choices were on "the other menu." Apparently, they change the menu every so often. Then there were the prices. $38 for ONE pork chop; $48 for an 8oz filet mignon; $20 for the "wedge salad," lest we forget the $4 iced teas. Finally, one would/should expect at these prices the food would be at least decent. Nope. Nothing could be further from the truth. The steak was ordered medium and served well done, the wedge salad was a huge bowl of white lettuce cut from the very bottom accompanied by four measly pieces of overdone pork, and the sweet iced tea was, for lack of a more appropriate description, very bitter. Adding insult to injury is the fact we were seated next to the patio doors, and on a 46 degree night we absolutely froze. The only reason this place gets one star is no stars was not an option. There are many other restaurants in Safety Harbor- stay away from this one unless you desire to break the bank on mediocre food and horrible service. read more

Food is delicious! The aroma of tasty food embraces you as you walk into this house like restaurant. Greeted warmly, the staff here is friendly, welcoming and professional. Interesting drink menu. I liked the ginger martini. It was a chilly night during this recent visit, I chose the braised short ribs with root vegetables and mashed potatoes. It was a flavor filled winner, ate everything with gusto. A solo musician was playing during dinner, Matt Zitwer his songs and voice added to the wonderful ambiance of the meal. The sweet potatoes were great but let me tell you about those brussel sprouts....oh my gosh!!! Order them, you will love em' The fish was cooked perfectly! We didn't try the bread pudding but every (not even kidding) every table around us had an order. We heard it had butterscotch cooked in it and drizzled over it. Safety Harbor is fully open. We were looking for a place to have a drink at the bar. We decided to hit The Kitchen, and after walking in and finding two seats open at the bar, we're just about to sit down when a short guy (server - so you know who to blame) walking by says, "Did you check with the hostess?" We explained that we only wanted to have a drink, and he told us we still needed to check with the hostess. We have been stopping in to have a drink at different bars all over the country, and we never had to check in with the hostess at the front. We felt incredibly unwelcome. Two seats sitting open? So you don't want the business. I'm a very, VERY, good tipper, so not only did your business lose our business, and your bartender our tips, but as locals who frequent SH and often have company visit who we take downtown as well, you just lost our business forever, as we are not interested in a business that makes us feel unwelcome. Bar Fly, The Pub at 8th, Tiki Tavern, Water Oak, so many amazing places that are delicious and always welcoming...why go somewhere that makes you feel unwelcome? Both of our cocktails tasted slightly off (we modified them prettily heavily to make them less sweet, so it's partially our bad). We got a few sushi rolls & they were all good. Basil oil is an interesting touch to sushi, I don't hate it. The sushi could arrive a lot colder.. i know the summer heat warms it, immediately but it seemed to have gotten a head start before it got to us. Had dinner for the first and last time a week ago. We reservations for 4 and of course the table was not ready. Yet tables were open and they offered to sit us on the porch - thank you no. While we waited for our table we sat at the bar, what appears to be a bar but really counter w some wine. 2 of our party of 4 got drinks, while the other 2 had to wait for their drinks, and wait. Which came from the other bar. Ambience - looks like they opened a 1980s remodeled house , boring and cheap furniture. Crappy rattan chairs. The beef short ribs were not rib meat, they were dry and did not include any of the sauce from the ribs. Roasted carrots were crunchy. Lamb chops were way too salty. I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I had made reservations on November 2 through Open Door for a party of 4 outdoors in the back. I called The Kitchen the same day to request the outdoor seating . The manager called me on November 7 to tell me they booked a banquet and could only seat me under an umbrella in the front of the restaurant. This is what I call very rude and unacceptable. I definitely don't recommend a restaurant that provides this type of service. There are much better restaurants in Safety Harbor. read more

I ended up at this quaint little place off 4th Avenue for brunch one Saturday. I was greeted by the host and asked where I wanted to sit. I chose a table in the front dining room. Something to note, the front dining room is the coolest for those of you who might be suffering from this sweltering Florida heat. As I was looking at the brunch menu, I didn't see anything that struck my fancy. I asked the waitress if the kitchen could prepare the beet salad off the dinner menu. She said no problem. I was happy they were willing to accommodate my request. The salad came out as any salad would. What I did not expect was the roasted candied garlic. For the ones that weren't burnt it gave the salad a different flavor. The beets didn't taste roasted and needed a pinch of salt to give it a flavor profile and I'm pretty sure it was regular pecans in the salad with just a smidge of goat cheese. The salad was just okay. There was nothing my table ordered that made an impression on us to make us want to come back. While the service was great, the ambience is charming, the food was underwhelming. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant. It is one of the best in the Safety Harbor, Clearwater area. The atmosphere and decor make a dining experience so special. It's a great place for a special dinner or just a nice night out. I have brought large groups several times and they did a great job with providing each guest with individual service. The food is amazing. I love the scallops and beet salad, but the duck is wonderful too. If you go, David will make your dining experience special and Mandy will make sure you never wait for a drink. What an amazing hidden gem! This restaurant is on a side street in Safety Harbor...absolutely LOVE this place! The food, service, drinks and ambience are incredible! It's located in a historic home (100+ years old) in a quaint neighborhood. We had the pork chop and beet salad with Salmon...both were very delish! The waitress was spot on with balance between taking care of us and allowing us to enjoy our dinner. The bartender was awesome -we asked for a specific gin- he came out with several recommendations, and came back out to ensure we were happy with our selection. An extraordinary evening! As a longtime high-end private chef and former restaurant manager, I can be, shall we say, a little particular when dining out. All I ask of an establishment is that they succeed at what they set out to do. Kitchen & Bar at Safety Harbor succeeds wildly. From the moment of entering, I was made to feel welcome and appreciated. The ambiance was casual and comfortable. The service was cordial, professional, and knowledgeable. And the food? More than excellent. The menu promised interesting and appealing options, and the kitchen delivered big-time. I rarely order crabcakes out (cuz I make killer crabcakes myself, lol), but I made an exception and was glad I did -- they were delicate and filled with plenty of crabmeat, accompanied by a surprising berry chutney that complemented them wonderfully. The Caesar salad was crisp and perfectly dressed, with crunchy house-made croutons. And the scallop risotto was splendid -- a perfect texture, with enormous sea scallops that were just barely cooked through, exactly as they should be and so seldom are. And did I mention that the portion sizes are quite generous without being overwhelming? Which makes the dinner a good value as well as a more than satisfactory gustatory experience. Kudos to Chef and his crew, and the front of the house as well -- it was one of my more memorable restaurant adventures this year. p.s. Quaint cottage style restuarant in downtown Safety Harbor. My friend and I ordered several small plates to share which was perfect. A little pricey for the portions but that's to be expected at these types of places. We ordered Mediterrean shrimp (which was the best plate of the night), scallops and hen. The shrimp dish comes with 4 shrimps and 4 small pieces of bread with dipping sauce. Unfortunately if you ask for more bread, it will cost extra. The scallop was good but not memorable. The hen was a pass for me. For dessert, we had mini donuts which comes with 2 chocolate and 2 blueberry ones. The white sangria comes either half or full pitcher, not by the glass. It was a bit water down. At the end of dinner, the chef stopped by to ask how our food was which was a nice personal touch.
