"This is for a school project" I learned that The Kia Oval is 176 years old. It has been the home of Surrey County Cricket Club since 1845. Not only is it a stadium but also include other recreational parts and other rooms as well. During World War 2 the Kia Oval was going to be used as a prison camp. There was a concert held here during 1971 including bands such as Atomic Rooster, Quintessence, and Grease Band. What makes cricket such a popular sport in London?

Great place Highly recommend a visit to watch some cricket :) especially 20/20 We sat in block 10 which apparently is good for a good view of the wicket? Lots of bars around the edge of the seats so no real queueing for beer

The famous Oval cricket grounds. The stadium was just 10 mins walk from our hotel. Worth a visit for avid cricket fans.

Super MILLWALL from the Den…read more Had a fantastic time. Going into this I always heard about MILLWALL being one of the grittiest teams in England and having I famous fans. Although not as crazy as I would've imagined, the fans are chanting the whole match, and the atmosphere is great. Stadium isn't as nice as others in the area but there is a distinct local and close-knit feel about the club which is quite nice PRO TIP: Go to box 19 for an authentic MILLWALL experience

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've watched one match at the New Den, in 2011 - it was half full which was a shock, and might be the reason why it only gets 4 stars. I'd heard about the rabid, evil Millwall fans, and seen them so many times away from home, and once in their old stadium as a younger lad. Not the case on the day I was here, but then the opponent was a lowly and unexciting adversary. It's a good stadium though, not as expensive as some of the others in London, by a long shot. I enjoyed my day, I was covered from the rain by the stands, I didn't get stabbed (people used to say that's what happened at Millwall games), and altogether I found it a lot more pleasant and also underwhelming than expected. I'll try it again for a much bigger game, one of these days... to see what the fuss is really about. So when I was doing my first tour of Scotland in 2011, I also hit up every single stadium in the country. My obsession with footy (soccer to Americans) is the reason. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are based on first-hand personal experience, usually from multiple visits. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to most of them yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at many of them, which I will post later. Also, when back in Scotland I plan to take more pix, and add more stadia! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** They're one of my least fave teams, and even though this stadium was used in Dream Team as the home of Harchester United, it's still not anything special to me with open-ended sides and such. It creates an intimidating atmosphere of course. It was built in 92 for 16 mil, and is the pride of South East London, with a capacity of around 20k. As you can see from the pictures, it's absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere is intense, but it would be better if it filled in the corners.

I hopped on the tube and made my way up the line. Once off I b-lined it over this way with the little remaining light the day had. To say that it is massive is an understatement. I was in awe of the size of the footprint overall and the stadium itself. To think that so many countries gathered here just a few short years ago is amazing. To me, it was beautiful. I strolled the area without any agenda. I just wanted to walk around the massive area, I honestly have no idea if I walked where I was allowed or not, I wasn't paying attention much as I was staring upwards almost the whole time. I went just about everywhere that I could. Up and down stairs, over bridges, around buildings until I think I covered it all. I would have loved to go down the slide at The ArcelorMittal, but I had gotten there too late in the day and they were already closed. It looks massive and definitely a one of a kind thing to do while here. Another thing I did while here was find the Since 9/11 WTC artwork (thanks Google Maps). I was unaware that there was a memorial of sorts to the victims of 9/11 in London. Being close to the anniversary of that day I felt as if I should visit here. It is a reminder of what happened that day and an educational tool. Tastefully done.

On the outside it looks like a temple to movies as you're getting close to it; it's a huge, imposing oval of a building in the middle of the street. But the temple illusion is shattered quickly as to get to the place you have navigate into one of several tunnels with some of the local homeless community and their respective full use of the place as a toilet. This is especially disconcerning if you go to a late showing. Once you get inside, your feeling will shift from slightly tense to slightly underwhelmed. The interior here is kind of like an AMC megaplex from the early 1990's. There's some light celebration of movies going on but it really doesn't appear like some flagship for the BFI, especially given the gravitas they employ on their movie collection video they play before many movies here. Food is also really underwhelming compared to nearly all higher end theaters in the States with full service; I guarantee if you were to visit the first Alamo in Austin that was converted out of a dumpy old 1970's style four theater complex you'd find that experience an order of magnitude better than what you'll get here (and that's before we get into just the attention paid to the love of cinema bv a company like that compared to the vanilla offerings here!) LIke I wrote before, once the movie starts it's very good. If you have a BFI membership like I do and can access the VIP seating, they definitely have more legroom than anywhere else I've been in the country. But overall experience is just deeply underwhelming and they should really overhaul this whole place to truly immerse people in the love of film - even the Everyman chain in London does a way better job of this than this location does.

Review #6666! Gayle…read moreand I took in a Premier League match between Fulham and Manchester City last Saturday at Craven Cottage. I was a pleasant walk (mostly in a nice park) to the stadium from the Putney Bridge Tube station and an easy exit from the stands and back to the London Underground. Craven Cottage has been the home of Fulham F.C. since 1896. My Charlton friend tells me that you used to be able to watch ships pass by on the Thames while watching the match. But with foreign ownership and revenue enhancement beckoning, the new (and not yet completed), Riverside stand now blocks that view and kind of stands out vs. the rustic features of the original stadium. Our seats were flip down and a little tight, but no complaints. A London friend of ours advised that we should have gone to see his team (Charlton - League 1), but at a premium over face value, I wanted the the Premier League experience at least once. We sat in Section E (Row J) in the Johnny Haynes Stand. The view of the pitch was decent, even with a pole partially blocking the view. However, we were too high to see the electronic scoreboard on one end of the field. The TV screen in our section helped. We of course rooted for the home team and hoped that Fulham FC would hang in there. But alas, the vastly superior Man City team easily defeated the home team by the score of 4-0. A friend of mine in California (a Man City fan) was up early to watch the match and we exchanged observations throughout the match. He of course was thrilled. As I was basically a tourist here (among others in the stands), I was only a bit disappointed. As football matches can get a bit rowdy, alcohol is not allowed in the stands and beer sales are cut off early. On that note, Gayle and I enjoyed a burger and a pint under the grandstand with a couple dozen "friends". I also came away with a Fulham scarf for a souvenir, and later my brother's note that players Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson are American. At the time of this review, Fulham was sitting in the lower half of the Premier League table. They've been here for 2 years after being promoted from the Championship League, with maybe some previous relegation. Maybe next year will show have them move up a bit. Come On Fulham! And thank you Gayle for indulging me!
