    Come on, England!
    Nik T.

"Swing low, sweet chariot Coming for to carry me home, Swing low, sweet chariot, Coming for to carry me home." now that i have sung this iconic anthem with 81,080 rugby fans in twickenham, i can't help but upgrade it to 5 stars! the crowd was fantastic! the atmosphere electric! true, it was after all england vs australia, a match that pitted two traditional rugby powerhouses in a win or go home, group stage scenario but little did i foresee how enjoyable the whole experience will be despite the less than desired result for them english rose! first and foremost, i must thank my brother for securing prestige hospitality tickets at the east stand level 3 wakefield's restaurant. without him, this review would not have been possible! the train to twickenham at 5ish was already packed like sardines for a match scheduled to kick off at 8pm. the mood among fans was surprisingly friendly and very orderly, with plentiful stewards to guide you along the way. it's about a 15mins walk from over land twickenham station via a route lined with temporary stalls selling f&b and rugby world cup 2015 merchandise. a quick security screening(don't bring bags!) at the gate and up to the hospitality suites we go! the hospitality staff were super helpful and faultlessly friendly, don't be afraid to approach them if you have any questions at all. if they can't help, they will seek out someone who can! a full sit down three course delicious dinner with free flow drinks ensued. it didn't hurt that ex-english and oz rugby players/legends were at hand to give us a live analysis of the match, pregame. need some souvenirs to bring home? ipad touting sales people will come to your table to take orders and deliver to you after the match, hassle free. do step out of your hospitality suite, if you so wish, just to soak in the pure adrenaline that's in the air! and feel the goose bumps, as the swing low, sweet chariot anthem rings out around the stadium. you can return to your suite anytime with additional f&b treats awaiting at half time and the final whistle. hospitality continues for another 45mins after full time, so do not rush off before! the egress is also rather orderly with the free and frequent shuttle buses that takes you to hounslow central station on the piccadilly line a god send. yes, i have finally paid proper homage, after my pilgrimage, to the home of english rugby! now, the sweet chariot can come for to carry me home!

A surreal sports experience... Coming to London as part of the NFL's International series 2016 was something that, as a fan I'll never forgot. In this hallowed ground for British rugby today was the first American football game ever held at Twickenham Stadium. Fans coming from far and away to see the experience. Met up with folks from Northern Ireland & Switzerland who attended the game. Back in the States, fans usually route for one team or another at a stadium. Definitely not that way here. Fans wearing caps & or jerseys from almost all teams were spotted during the game. They are American football fans, with no real favorite team. As is my way, always try to get the lay of the land before game time starts. Today was no exception. For foodies out there,we sampled grub from the Mac factory London and ordered a classic Mac & cheese. Also of some note we passed The Rugby hall of fame, and that seems like a popular stop while your here. As the line was out the door almost 2 hours prior to the game. The best part for me, was my team won & taking a double decker bus to get here. (Bucket list in London) Another stadium bites the dust.

Oh how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... Jump on the 35 or 37 from Brixton town hall and it will deposit you just across the road from Clapham Junction station, where trains to the hallowed ground leave approximately every 15 minutes and on game days, there is usually an additional special service put on. Walking to the platform you are ushered in a sea of rugby jerseys promoting university, international, national and local club teams. I relish the familiar butterfly feeling in my tummy as I survey the crowd of fellow supporters. Along with my new family we join the river of people that meanders it way to the stadium. On the approach the sheer scale of the grounds is overwhelming but really it needs to be that big to fit the heart, spirit and passion of the game and the experience. There are food stands everywhere ranging from hot dogs, roast pig in a bun, fish & chips, pie and mash all sorts of lovely comfort food. Num num num! It's such a great day out and very family friendly too. I have found very little in life comparable to the pleasure and enjoyment experienced when watching a game of rugby within the walls of the mighty Twickenham with a pint of Guinness in my hand - perfection.

The Twickenham Stoop is home to Harlequin's Rugby. It's a great spot to watch a match as all the seats are close to the action and the crowd really gets into the game. There are many bars, so its easy to get a beer without having to queue for very long. It's family friendly---at the last match I went to they had an indoor bouncy castle for the kids. It's also very fan friendly---love how the Harlequins really try to make it as if it's your stadium and your team. I have two issues with this stadium though, it's a bit of a walk from the Twickenham train station (15-20 min) which itself is a pain to get to (train from Waterloo), unclear why this stadium can't be closer to the station and the lack of any decent food options inside the stadium. Divine burger is just gross...the burgers meat looked gnarly, really disgusting....make sure you eat before you get to the stoop. Lastly, do note that the Stoop is not the same as Twickenham Stadium (home for the English National Rugby Team and one too many Lady Gaga concerts), this is a much smaller (15K seating) stadium, nearby but not adjacent to Twickenham Stadium!

Rugby - England vs. South Africa
    Robert L.

Great venue for rugby fans! Beers, hot dogs and toilets easily accessible wherever you sit so all you need for an excellent day watching rugby! Went here and watched England vs South Africa, great game except SA won ;) To get to the venue I took the tube to richmond and then walked for about 30 min. There are buses but hey it's not too far... Just don't come with a car, that seemed to be a nightmare :p

Rugby World Cup Final 2015. Australia Vs New Zealand
    David H.

I attended the Rugby World Cup final in 2015. I had an awesome time.Great Stadium, plenty of everything...food, toilets, short lines, great transportation, no lines at the gates getting in. Of one the best Rugby Stadiums except for the artificial turf right next to the rugby pitch. I had a nice 30min stroll from the tube station not too far away.

    Chime for Change Concert 2013
    Kathleen W.

The first time I went to Twickenham Stadium was for the Chime for Change concert in 2013. The concert was amazing. The stadium is somewhat hard to get to. National Rail- one change. It's still fairly cheap. On the way home, there was an emergency with the trains, so that was difficult. Took about five hours on busses to get home. Had to wait forever to get on a bus! Stadium has typical offerings of food in stadiums.

Located a couple of minutes away across the road from Twickenham Stadium is the Twickenham Stoop Stadium, which is a much smaller rugby stadium and has been home to the Harlequins since 1963, who compete in the Arriva Premiership Rugby. With a capacity of just 14,800, it is dwarfed by Twickenham across the way which has a capacity of 82,000 and as a whole is a lot more basic as a stadium, being a football fan myself compared to rugby, I'd say this stadium is your typical League 1 / 2 stadium, even compared to League Two (4th highest division in English football) there are six larger stadiums, and in comparison to other rugby sides this doesn't rank too highly either. There was a statue outside the ground and limited parking which got within touching distance of the pitch, which was quite surprising and different for a stadium, as I visited on a non-event day I can obviously presume that when an event is taking place this would be different. There were staff at the stadium who seemed friendly enough allowing me to have a look at the Stoop, named after a former player and club Chairman, who seemed friendly enough. Not an amazing ground by all means with so many stadiums I'm used to seeing in football better, even in the lower divisions of English football in terms of overall facilities and capacity, but they have kind of done well with the limited space they have, I do like the statue and well-maintained pitch. 2*

Home of the 2020 Premiership rugby champions, on match days this place is buzzing. Excellent venue,…read morehelpful staff, great choices for half-time food and drink and friendly, passionate fans. If you're a rugby fan, you won't be disappointed.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I've actually only ben to this stadium 3 times (or about 10 if you count visiting the outside of it). It's absolutely tiny inside! You'd never imagine it's a Premier League stadium. It is pretty modern and enjoyable on the inside though. The rich owners have jazzed it up and made it like a posh little box. The crowd is absolutely intense and right on top of the field and I always feel like part of the action when I'm in here. Definitely one of the better stadiums, but the prices and the small size are the reason it's a 4. I've been to every significant stadium in UK & US, due to a lifelong obsession with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later followed Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are based on first-hand personal experience, usually from multiple visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, visiting hundreds of stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to most of them yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at many of them, which I will post later. Also, when back in the UK I plan to take more pix, and add more stadia! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** It's a little rich club with a little rabid stadium in West London. I can't give this stadium less than a 4 because it's so loud and intense and the crowd are right on top of the players, but there's no way such a tiny stadium can get a 5 for a club that should really have a bigger and grander stadium. It looks like they won't be in the Prem much longer anyway (they never usually are), but if the club won't be missed (too many London clubs, esp West London), then the stadium will and its atmosphere too. It's in White City, a great part of London that is maybe a little racially monotonous. It's just near Shepherd's Bush. I think maybe he should shave it off. It opened in 1904, and Fulham briefly played here in the 00s.

In the spring of 2002, when I was doing a semester abroad in London, I did a work study (internship) at QPR. At the time, they were in the Second Division (third tier). I had hear of QPR but didn't know much about the club. But my time there made me a fan and I'm proud to be a supporter of the R's. Now that they're back in the top flight, I had a perfect excuse to head back over the pond for a visit and to take in a Premiership match. Loftus Road Stadium is definitely a throw-back to the more modest days of the sport. Compared to Arsenal's new Emirates Stadium (review here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-emirates-stadium-london#hrid:nvZxRYSY_mKiQndnHx2iQw), Loftus Road is like a backyard shed. It's old, not at all modern, and for a Premier League ground, quite small. But it also has immense character, is very intimate, and incredibly approachable. One of the great things about the smaller clubs is how accessible the players are as well. If you get to Loftus Road early you can catch many of the players walking from the player parking lot into the stadium, and most of them are happy to stop to sign an autograph or snap a quick photo with you. Try doing that at Manchester United or Chelsea! QPR is a fantastic little club with an incredible history. Hopefully they'll be in the top flight for years to come. Which means I better start saving up now for what I hope can be an annual pilgrimage.

It's a rich little club in West London that is a rival of Chelsea and Fulham, and just got a lot richer with the new owners. However despite their wealth and a litany of excellent well known overpaid players, they keep getting relegated, and will probably be again this season. Formed in 1882, they play in blue and white hoops, and my brother once played for them in his imagination. His fave player was Les Ferdinand. They were runners up in the Prem back in 1976, and FA Cup runners up in 1982, but the only thing they've ever won is the League Cup in 1967, as well as runners up in 86 (go Oxford!). However, you're just enough out of the hustle and bustle with places like Richmond Park on your doorstep. The university itself has a great campus. Froebel is the gem with its beautiful manor house and lake and is the base for teacher training and education, Whitelands is the sports college and Digby Stuart and Southlands are for those who study humanities. Though I do English Language and Linguistics I chose to be a Froebel student. For a uni with a lot of international students you would think they would be more considerate. They always release the year schedule about only 2 months before you actually have to be there and getting a plane ticket in that time frame is horrible. Also, along with that they take their sweet time releasing exam time tables. A week into break and we just got told when our exam would be even though they knew which classes were given an exam last spring and had an actual copy of the exam at the start of term. And the final thing is (at least for the history program) every staff member has a different way of the way you should do assignments. I have written 3 critical commentaries just this term. 2 for one teacher one for another. I wrote all three in the same style, I got a first and a 2:1 from one teacher and the other teacher completely failed me. Since staff don't have the same expectations, every assignment is you trying to figure out what they are wanting and has to be trial and error. Along with that they have no problem giving you one week to do 2 major assignments (one was a 2500 word essay) and 3 minor assignments. The positives of the uni is it's nicely located to travel all over London easy if they are not doing construction and the campus is very pretty. The night life and activities they put on are a lot of fun, just the academics need a lot of work.
