Biscuits & Gravy

Keg and Egg has the best Biscuits & Gravy EVER. More sausage than gravy. Never had better.

Classic Breakfast

Food is great here. Service is always fast and the ambiance is fun. It's a small locals pub with food. I absolutely love their breakfasts too. I think everyone should try Keg and Egg at least once.

Hard to beat this BEC on hard roll, add fries and green sauce. Well done K&E. Back every week nearly.

For Sunday Brunch, the 30 minute wait wasn't too bad. You show up and write your name on the paper waiting list. You can get a drink at the bar while you wait. The locals love this spot and I had to try it out. I ordered the French toast with a side of hash browns and scrambled eggs. It was exactly what I wanted!

Huevos Rancheros and a Bloody Mary.

We were in town for about five days, staying in Kure Beach, and had planned that most of our meals would be in Wilmington due to it being off season and some local area restaurants being closed. While we certainly had some great meals in Wilmington Riverwalk area, for breakfast we fell hard for The Keg and Egg. In fact we ended up there three mornings of our vacation! As you enter, the funky movie memorabilia decor is fun, and a conversation starter as we found ourselves seated at the bar with customers that are for sure there everyday or at least every week. We felt very welcomed for being out of towners. The brunch menu has classics, eggs, Texas toast, bacon and hash browns. My first morning I had the Huevos Rancheros served with black beans. It was so good! My husband had the steak and eggs our second visit and it was steakhouse delicious. Cooked perfectly medium rare. The bloody Mary's were also good. I had the classic breakfast my second visit and got the hashbrown casserole as my side. As yummy as it was, I preferred the regular hash browns. I don't know what they do to the Texas toast but it tasted like savory cotton candy. Does Texas toast always taste like that and I just have been missing out? It was yum. The staff are so friendly and clearly care about their local frequent patrons, but as mentioned before, we felt very welcomed. I miss them already. Parking was pretty plentiful but I do believe it competes with parking for the restaurant next door. Restroom was clean.

Breakfast Burrito

A solid four and a half stars. My husband and I went here for a late breakfast (does that make it brunch?) before a day on the water. At 10 am this place was busy. It has a very lively, local vibe. Lots of bloody Mary's and beers on tables, pretty crowded, lots of people who knew each other. Our waitress was attentive and quick and friendly. The menu was large, with a variety of options. This is a hangover, full up kind of place. You're not going to see an acai bowl or chia seed pudding on this menu. Think chicken and waffles, salmon Benedict, egg sandwich, breakfast burritos. This is hearty food, perfect for a day outside. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy and a side of grits. I always judge a restaurant by their grits and these were amazing. Creamy, stone ground, great texture. They were so good. I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. I was thrilled that it came out hot, like super hot. It was so refreshing to have food served warm. The chorizo tasted like real, authentic chorizo with a bit of spice. The burrito was so large I could barely eat half of it. It was delicious! The only thing I didn't care for was the skillet it was served in. It kept moving when I went to cut into the burrito and I had to pick paper out from the liner of the skillet. Small price to pay for some amazing food. This will definitely be on our radar for breakfast again!

Another 5-star for Keg and Egg - truly something special here. Late breakfast on July 4th, short wait and multiple apologies for being short staffed. No worries and No Problems! Staff was great and hustling to bring out elevated dishes that far exceed most of the areas options for the brunch crowd. It's a Monday and a Holiday -- thanks for being open and awesome! After a totally reasonable wait for a table ... this Family of 4 ordered off the fall weekly specials menu and got great meals to start our day of avoiding crowded beaches. Service was prompt and the flavors were amazing!

We went here for brunch in a Saturday morning. We walked in around 8:30 am and the bar was packed! Even with that, we were able to get a seat very quickly. (Although we were told to make sure to get there before 10 on weekends!). Service was fast, and friendly. The food... oh my goodness the food! I told my husband he is. It allowed to get the biscuits and gravy anymore because it makes mine look bad (and I'm pretty proud of mine!). The atmosphere is fun, lively and inviting. Looking forward to making this a regular stop in the very near future.

Its weird, a part of me wanted to give it a four but I really couldnt find a good enough reason to do so. It does suck if you go on a weekend when its busy because they dont take reservations or call ahead and we had to wait a good 45 mins on a Sunday for lunch. They do have a few tables outiside to sit and wait but between the heat and bugs it wasnt too comfortable. It was also weird walking in and not being greeted by a host. You just write your name on a list to be called out when a table opens up. All that aside, food was yummy, good service, and excellent background music. I had the shrimp and grits and they had no problems leaving out the mushrooms and tomato for me. It was very flavorful. One of my daughters had the special strawberry shortcake French toast. It was sooo good! I would get that if I get a chance to come again. I like all the quirky memorabilia hanging around for decor inside. Especially the horror stuff. Nice! I wish it was a little bigger inside but not a deal breaker. They also have 5 dollar mimosas and bloody marys on Sundays.

You really can't go wrong with Keg & Egg brunch. It's our home away from home. Amazing food, relaxed, ambience, and excellent service.

Wow wow wow! I can't say enough good things about this place. I've found one of my top favorite…read morerestaurants in Wilmington. This place gives Miami feels. The ambience has this electric tropic feel, playing a variety of old and new Latin tunes, with lowkey lighting but not so low you can't see anything. The food it's packed full of flavor and the margs are on point! I recommend starting off with the pork belly quac, and a spicy margarita with tajin on the rim I had the Machu Picchu roll(corvina, citrus tiger milk, mango confetti, and more) and I swear was one of the most beautifully creative flavor packed dishes I have ever had in this town. Look, if you are wanting a quick getaway to another culinary world and are tired of the same ol wings, pizza , and beer come check out this spot. Oh! And to top it all off the service was stellar! First and foremost our server Bella was fantastic, she was so personable and ran through the menu with us even offering suggestions. The restaurant itself is very cool, it's definitely more upscale Mexican and the food more than met that standard. I had the 4 enchilada plate, they are stuffed with delicious chicken and at Bella's recommendation I did 2 with their homemade mole and 2 with the homemade queso, both were excellent. My wife had the cauliflower dish and really enjoyed it, it's not something she gets every day and the flavor really popped, great vegetarian options at Vochas. We had the Maracuyá Tres Leches Cake for dessert and it was next level tasty. Next time we come visit we'll definitely drop by again for an outstanding meal.

It was great weather this night, so we opted for an outside table that was in total shade. Very comfortable. Our server came by for drink orders. We had no appetizers this visit and went right into entrees. We tried the Port City Burger, the Gnocchi with chicken, cilantro lime shrimp quesadillas and the salmon tacos. Everything was delicious. The only complaint I would have is that the Salmon Tacos was a bit small. The dish is two small tacos with a side of tortilla chips. There is no salsa, no pico de gallo, no slaw. I was actually sorry that I didn't get an appetizer. I was still a little hungry after I finished. We didn't want any of the dessert offered this time. Again, everything was great. Service, food, atmosphere, outside patio. Just my dish was a little less in size. I will keep that in mind next time we visit. I'm not sure something like this would be changed on the menu, but I still wanted to voice my opinion. Still a great place with a great menu and service. If the weather is good, opt for the patio. It is really nice sitting out there.

I'm the St. Louis visitor in the group, here to be educated on what Southern cooking is supposed to taste like. The verdict by the end of the night was mixed. The space itself is cute and clean, with an industrial-chic, open feel inside, but it gets very loud once it fills up, like hard to hear your side neighbor loud. We lucked into a set of club chairs in a corner away from the main dining area, which knocked the noise down enough that we could hear each other. Without that, I'm honestly not sure we would have stayed. The host didn't blink at seating us over there, and the wait staff throughout the night was friendly. Drinks were fine across the table. My grilled peach old fashioned was the only one I tried, and I was hoping for a sharper, smokier profile, what I got leaned peachy without much else going on. The clams my friend ordered had a little grit in them, so not perfectly cleaned, but the flavor was there. The six-hour baby back ribs was a great start, great sauce, not smothered, fall-off-the-bone tender, the kind of thing I'd come back for. I didn't get a photo because we tore into them too fast, which tells you most of what you need to know. After that, things got uneven. The pork empanadas are listed with an ancho chili jam, but no jam or sauce came with ours. The pastry was crisp and tasty, but the pork inside was under-seasoned, and we left a whole empanada on the plate. The crab cakes was the bigger letdown, my friend, who grew up in Maryland and knows what a crab cake should be, said hers tasted more like a flat, minced patty (possibly with fish filler) than actual crab. She didn't finish it. My gumbo ya-ya had chicken, shrimp, and andouille, but the sauce was thin and tomato-forward where I was hoping for, and a richer sauce. Spice was fine; the whole thing just landed middle-of-the-road. Desserts split the difference. The key lime crème brûlée was genuinely excellent, I'd order it again on its own. The North Carolina blueberry bread pudding was beautifully plated but a little dry in execution for use. We left half of it. One thing worth flagging: the restaurant closes at 8:30, and at 8:30 sharp, with us still finishing dessert, the music came on with the unmistakable "we're closed" energy, even though we'd arrived at 7 and no one else was wandering in late. It made the end of the meal feel rushed in a way that didn't match the otherwise warm service. 3.4 starts out of 5. To be fair: we didn't leave feeling the food was bad, just that we'd ordered into the weaker half of the menu. Our server highly recommended the skillet mac and cheese and the quesadillas, and the skillet cornbread looked great online - we just didn't pull the triggers. We have generous optimism a version of this meal that goes much better than ours did, and on a second visit I'd lean into those recommendations. For now, though, with friends in town and a list of places I haven't tried yet, I probably won't be steering people here for your one night in Wilmington. I'd come back to give it a fairer second shot if I lived here.

Unfortunately, we were by the door, and it was a little chilly with people coming in and out, but I totally understand that they have to pack in tables due to being so busy. Service was friendly and quick, and they were very patient with the fact that a member of our party was late arriving. I went with the Oh Molly, which included 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, homefries, grits & a biscuit with mollasses butter. They let me sub in double bacon since I don't eat sausage. The main draw for that dish for me was the molasses butter. The molasses flavor wasn't as strong as I was hoping, but it was still really tasty. The biscuit was soft and perfect, I liked the grits, the eggs were cooked right. There was room for improvement on the hashbrowns. For such a busy spot, the gender-segregated single stall restrooms did have a bit of a wait. So, just keep that in mind. Also, when they are busy, their parking lot does fill up. We struggled a bit with parking. I'd definitely stop in again!
