Overview: a comfortable, classy hotel that offers much for golfers and non-golfers. Arrival: Arrived by taxi from Dublin. Attentive porters and doormen. Check-in: Efficient check-in experience. Room: Excellent, quiet, spacious room with a king bed and all the typical necessities of a good hotel room. The TV was a bit small, but apart from the TV size, everything was top-notch. Bed: Good king bed with quality linens Bathroom: fantastic bathroom with beautiful double vanity sink, large soaking tub, heated towel rack, and more. Only complaint about the bathroom- poor lighting (needs more broad lighting and less shadow causing focused lighting). Sleep quality: fantastic Grounds: Fantastic grounds with great trails for walking and jogging. Staff: Great staff, friendly and attentive. Conference facilities: Attended a two-day professional conference, and the facilities were decent but highly inconsistent temperatures in the meeting areas. This hotel is located in Kildare and not too far from the town of Straffan. There is not too much in the town of Straffan other than the Straffan House which is a pub/restaurant that only serves pizza owned by the K Club. I did find a restaurant recommended by locals off hotel property but not too much more. I am giving this hotel 5 stars for the sleep quality, cleanliness, lovely room, and in general great customer service. Some areas could use improvement on customer service. Prior to arrival I called the hotel about transportation from the airport to the hotel. They offered details of a car service that was 150 euros per person oneway. It was cheaper to take a taxi. I also booked some activities based on details on the website. The communication could have been streamlined with more details on the website and/or more details in the email. It took many emails to finally get activities scheduled. Arrival: Arrived by taxi from Dublin Liberties area. We were greeted promptly by Tony and young man with blonde hair, maybe Adam, who brought our suitcases to our room. Adam was a very nice polite kind young man. Tony made sure that you never got lost and was always in the lobby to assist. On day 2, I met my favorite employee, Patrick. I love Patrick personality and he was so delightful to chat with and I learned alot about the hotel and the area from Patrick. I wanted to walk into town and Patrick advised against it and had the hotel shuttle take me to the Straffan House. Checkin: The stand out employee was a young black man that I never got a chance to get his name, but he always had a smile on his face. Greeted everyone when they walked past the lobby. Property: What a lovely property! So many areas to explore and enjoy the great outdoors. I walked in the entire walking path to the right and left and got a good 3 miles of walking and exploring even some waterfalls. I used the baby geese too! Lovely gardens. Gym: there is a gym onsite, ask for directions because it is not part of the main hotel but off on a journey, it is a maze to find it, but there is small swimming pool, jacuzzi, and working out equipment if you don't want to walk the grounds or it is too cold. Room: Our room was on the main part of the hotel. What a lovely spacious room with a super comfy King size bed with lovely pillows once you doubled them. This bed was so comfortable and got the best night sleep and the room was so quiet that heard nothing from other rooms, down the hall, or even on the street. This is the place for a retreat and really can relax. The room has a mini fridge that is usable. Bring snacks to enjoy on your walk on the hotel grounds. Lovely Nespresso coffee maker with Irish biscuits. Bathroom: double sink vanity but lighting was not the best for applying makeup. I used the table and chairs in the sitting area instead. But what a lovely luxurious tub to soak and a shower. The shower was a bit on the small side, but the tub made up for it. The hotel offer bath salts to really enjoy your soak. Activities: archery and whiskey tasting. The Archery is not onsite but rather you take the hotel shuttle to another property about 10 minute drive away. It is 1 hour for 50 euros. I had a great time learning about Archery, but you can tell they are use to tourist. The whiskey tasting was 66.88 euros (tax added) for 5 whiskeys. I learned a great deal about Irish whiskey. Barton restaurant - I had breakfast here everyday. I ordered regular coffee not realizing I could ordered espresso until I heard another guest order one. They do offer continental breakfast but I decided to order off the menu. I got the traditional full irish breakfast the first day. It was quite a large breakfast but I was going to have a long day and my dinner the prior night was very tiny. It was served quickly within 5 minutes. I did tell them twice to hold the blood pudding, but I got it anyways. Everything was room temperature hot and tasted okay. The next day I did the eggs benedict. It was served within 10 minutes but again the food was room temperature and just okay. The servers here are just mediocre. They don't check on you and if you ask for anything the response is ... it is on the continental breakfast table, help yourself. The food is pretty to look out, comes out fast, but nothing that really impressed me. Straffan House. This is the pub that is owned by K Club. I just had a blast, I entered on the bar side and really enjoyed meeting the locals. Had a Guiness and then tried an IPA from Dew drop brewery. It was a light IPA. They only serve pizza. I got the margarita pizza and well for 18 euros I would not recommend eating here. Come for a pint and chat with the locals, but eat somewhere else. Palmer House. Had lunch buffet style for conference. The Guinness stew was very good but it was served on a plate and needed something to complement it. Wow.. the venerable K Club. I had the opportunity to stay at the K Club for a week, and all I can say is WOW! Luxury Hospitality is all about seeing & not seeing the all the business end of the operations. It's about Staff being gracious & the Setting being immaculate. I can say that the K Club has perfected the fine balance of gracious, unintrusive, responsive, yet opulent service. My room was finely appointed, the service to my room was spot on. The grounds were immaculately manicured. The Staff was the best part though.. They were all inclined to serve guests with high level of positivity. I would list all the smiling faces that I saw each & every day, but I am sure that I would leave one out. Suffice to say, ALL the Staff were amazing! I highly recommend the K Club.. It's a must visit in Ireland! read more

Played the Palmer Course today. Nice course, but nonexistent course management by the K-Club. 5 hours 40m, not a Marshall insight. Complained in pro shop and I was asked to send the course superintendent an email as such and I asked what that was going to do and I was told "so he knows" (maybe the people in the pro shop could tell their boss). That was it. No apology, nothing. Not worth it in my book. read more

Ann amazing unique place. They held the Riders Cup here years ago. The hotel is still kept in the old-fashioned style but very beautiful. Service and food were outstanding. I would recommend staying here for a business or relaxing break. If you are a golfer I'm sure it's incredible. read more

So, even if you're not a golfer, the K is an excellent location to have dinner, or just a cappuccino. Sit outside on the patio at the main hotel that overlooks the magnificent garden and you will not want to leave. If you would like something less tranquil and more sporty pop over to one of the two golf clubs for a bite to eat or some great food. When you are ask while your friends where you had lunch, just respond "at the K" . No need to see K Club. Or, you can say you ate at the Palmer. No need to say you ate it "North Palmer". read more

Wow. 5 stars all the way. Immaculate green grounds, attentive personal service, and who even knew Irish food could be so good?! Absolutely plan to stay a few days here if you enjoy golf. This resort hosted the Ryder cup a few years back, so you know it's posh. Also, plan to stay here if you are visiting Dublin and want to relax away from city life for a few days. I arrived off a red eye, at 6 AM. Was greeted and shown to my room by a delightful gentleman who politely insisted, if I need anything, at all during my stay just ask. Could get used to this. 6 star service all the way. All of the concierge and staff were so well mannered and genuinely helpful. Stayed in the Burton Suite which was one of the nicest, largest hotel rooms I've stayed in. Colors were light greens and corals, with plenty of cream. 2 bathrooms, full size living room, and a terrace with table. I could have easily stayed for weeks! Nespresso machine was in the room and so were glasses and lots of bottles of Ballygowan water. Bed was super comfy. Went to the gym to get a workout in. All equipment is new and spent about an hour before asking for a tour of the spa. Spa itself is immaculate with a men's and women's changing room with both dry sauna and steam room inside. Neither were being used, so I virtually had them to myself which was such a treat. Treatment rooms were outside and so were 2 relaxation rooms. One has a jacuzzi which I enjoyed. There is a pool here as well. My massage - definitely one of the best I've ever had. Kelsey was sweet and followed my comments on the questionnaire to the T. Overall, very nice, clean spa that I certainly would love to visit again. Property itself is marvelous. New black bikes with baskets are perfect for exploring all 550 acres. Tons of photo ops all over the property! Bike trails are both paved and rocky. Inside the hotel itself are lots of small rooms and books where you can read (books are curated and always at least 3 nearby). Continental traditional Irish breakfast is provided and was my favorite mea with tons of choices. If you are thinking about staying here - do it. Going through my back log of unfinished reviews. This one is a few months late. Stayed here for a week. 3 stars for an average experience. Though I'm being quite generous with a 3 star rating given that a higher cost (and what a high cost it IS!) should warrant a much more than satisfactory experience. I do not believe that this was a "5-star" stay as I've read pretty much everywhere. Small bits of wear and tear throughout give the estate a dated, dusty feel. Some examples: there are wingback chairs and a small coffee table by the fireplace in the lobby, which is quite lovely. But the chairs are very worn from use and the coffee table always had rings, and the occasional unfinished, abandoned drink on it. There is another lounge area further down one of the halls, with extremely saggy furniture and a dusty fireplace mantle. Another thing. The K Club says that they offer complimentary wireless service. They do not. The wireless is VERY weak. It is NOT available unless you are in the lobby. Could not access wireless with either my laptop, or two cell phones. I was told it was an issue with my carrier. No, it's an issue with your router. So instead, I went to the business office, which is nothing more than two very dated desktops with the equivalent of dial up internet speed. The printer had low ink and little paper. A HUGE inconvenience overall. Had early check-in pre-confirmed. Upon arrival, room was not ready. They said that while I waited, perhaps I should enjoy some afternoon tea in the Tea Room. Service in the tea room was excruciatingly slow. I initially thought I had the wrong room after I had been waiting there for 15 minutes, but as I went out to enquire, service arrived. Tea was average; no sugar cubes offered, just standard packets. One of the desserts was made using canned, diced pineapple. Music was playing from a portable CD player in the corner. An underwhelming afternoon tea overall. Upon entering my room, no welcome fruit amenity was presented, which was included in my package. Room cleaning was skipped one day. Turndown service was skipped another night. I did inform the concierge about these oversights. I thought the K Club was a zero gratuity establishment (as it should be with most 5 star accommodations), but I must have been wrong. I continued to leave a tip afterward (which was taken every time). Had to remind the concierge that I had late check out, which I shouldn't have had to do since it was a part of my package. Extra bathroom supplies were brought up quickly when I needed them (such as a razor). I liked that you could get your breakfast delivered to your room. Most staff were helpful with local directions, suggestions on what to see or do, and friendly all around. However, I didn't think the service was up to par for a supposed "5 star" establishment. The grounds are large and picturesque. I enjoyed the contemplation gardens and apple orchard, as well as strolling along the river. Very lovely, rain or shine. The breakfast was the highlight of my stay. The table settings were lovely. There were a variety of unique meats, breads, and juices. I enjoyed several Irish favorites. The lattes and espressos prepared were fantastic. And several items, like eggs and crepes / "pancakes" were made to order (consistent every time). -- The spa, gym, and pool (when considered together) were above average. But getting to these amenities is a bit of a trip. You have to first get to the lobby, then down a long hall past several of the common rooms, and take a 5-10 min walk outside to get there. The gym and pool were essentially abandoned and allowed for my full enjoyment. The gym is impressive in size, well stocked, clean and with updated equipment. The pool is sparkling clean, chic and modern in design, with a fairly large whirlpool. Both were enjoyable. However, the spa left something to be desired in way of service and treatment. Like most areas of the estate, some slight wear and tear gave the room a dated and dusty feeling. It felt like more cleaning needed to be done. There was water marking near the edges of the wallpaper at curious spots near the ceiling and some corners of the paper were even beginning to peel. However, the high ceilings, period furniture, large soaking tub (no jets), and lovely view of the golf course were very much appreciated. The robes were thick and plush and the bath products were absolutely superb (Irish brand Voya, made of hand harvested Sligo seaweed) and refreshed daily. This is were the Ryder cup was held in 2006. It is a spectacular 5 star hotel with spectacular prices! It's situated in the pretty town of Straffan. If you are big into your golf then this is the place to play as they are professionally designed courses. Two friends of mine have worked there in the past as a bartender and waiter. Let's just say I think it's more fun to be a guest then to work there. There is a very clear agenda that you are lesser to the guest and you have to use separate doors even! But hey this is high end, I have driven through the grounds several times and it's just unbelievable behind those high old walls. read more

Love the K Club. Have been a visitor many times to the grounds (which are amazing) but have never eaten here. We went to Legends bar on a Saturday evening which is short stroll from the hotel. The restaurant is nicely decorated but the main draw is the pretty spectacular views over the golf course. Our waiter told us you couldn't move out there the previous day (the hottest day of the year) and is definitely one to add to my beer garden list for a sunny days! (yes I'm sure the K Club would love me calling it a beer garden) The food was great, so was our waiter and Im definitely kicking myself for not having visited sooner. read more

Spend a night here in November after attending a charity night. But having stayed in many hotels in and around Dublin. I honestly can't see how they can justify the €180 for the night although grateful for the reduced price from €240 for having attended the charity event. the shower in the room had only two temperatures cold and hotter than hell itself. while the garden at the back of the hotel was indeed lovely it was very poorly lit and made it difficult for those choose to traverse the garden to the house smurfit room where the event was beening held. While not all bad it did enjoy a laugh at the rubber duck left in the bath. Although i it will be a long time before i spend the night at this hotel read more

My family and I spent a wonderful few hours at The K Club. I had always wanted to visit this Ryder Cup venue. It is steeped in history and grandeur. From its well kept courses, gardens, driveways, Spa to its myriad of rooms (we got a peek of a chalet), restaurants and bars, it truly reflects its status as the Number 1 Golf resort and country estate in Ireland. Beautiful hotel, on beautiful grounds with very friendly service! We had a deluxe room on the 2nd floor overlooking the garden and the River Liffey and the Smurfit course beyond that. Guests are encouraged to ramble around the grounds and it is worth it! The room itself was excellent, spacious without seeming baron. The dinner in the Palmer clubhouse was very good too. My only gripe are the prices in the bar which really need to be looked - €6.50 for a coffee is outrageous anywhere! read more

Spent a long weekend at this wonderful location and tried out most of the services. From the moment we arrived at reception we felt welcome & all the staff were excellent and assisted with guidance & advice. The deluxe rooms are just that - deluxe ! The Thai restaurant (a short 5 minute walk from the hotel through the garden) has just been taken over directly by the hotel & it has a good menu choice with Michele more than happy to explain choices. We dined another day at the Legends Bar which was the only place that really needs a lift in terms of service standards. It serves homely food (it's located at the Palmer course clubhouse a 10 minute walk from main hotel but the hotel will drive you there if you don't fancy walking) so don't expect more than that. The River Room restaurant dinner was the best of all three current restaurants and it's in the main hotel. Very nice menu choice & good wine list. The food lived up to high expectations. The hotel will I understand shortly open a multi course set tasting menu restaurant - would really like to try that in the future. My wife & I tried a few spa treatments - they were good but this is not really a true "spa" hotel. The gym is well equipped with everything you need to meet training or keep fit needs. The two golf courses are spectacular particularly the Arnold Palmer course - very testing but a glorious setting for a challenging round of golf. Finally the main hotel bar is a nice cozy place to head to before or after dinner to unwind and enjoy the service. In short a great 5 star hotel in lovely grounds with great golf courses & still within 45 minutes drive of Dublin. read more
