August 13, 2019. Mom n I decided to hit EVERY Jalapeño Tree. This was jalapeño tree # 2. Our initial visit was amazing. But: I never gave it an honest opinion, so in memory of mom and an honest chance at an honest opinion I went back. May 27, 2023 12:44 pm. Party of one. It was a Saturday and winding down from the lunch rush. I requested to sit at the bar. Where there was available seats but (not bussed and not) ready for reseating. 12:50 I had a seat and a beer. 12:59 fajitas ($15) hit the table. It was great. Everything was tasty. The food was ok, could have some more seasoning! The service was great and I had no problem in that aspect. The only real issue is the insanely over priced food, the queso we ordered came out in a 10-12oz cup with about 6 -8 oz of queso and they charged us almost $9 for the small cup. I ordered the fajitas and they had some good flavor to them but pretty small portion also especially for $26! My Wife ordered the Gulf of Mexico and every inside the quesadilla had a black color to it like the grill they cooked the meat on needed cleaned. Also there was an egg smell that came about 4-5 times while we was eating, still not sure what that was. Probably take a break from this place for a while! read more

Oh boy, let me tell you--this place serves some incredibly good Mexican food! Where do I even start? First of all, the beef was excellent. As a self-proclaimed meat expert, I can tell you that was some fresh, flavorful beef. The portion size of my order was huge; I was absolutely stuffed, and even my to-go plate was packed full. On top of that, they refilled my chips and drinks for free, which was a nice touch. The only downside was they didn't have Diet Coke, which I'm a big fan of. Other than that, it was a solid experience. The price was pretty average at $40 for two plates, and I'd definitely go back, especially on a Sunday. 4 stars! read more

Look.. I'm all about the green salsa here. The menu is good, it's tex-mex. Lots to choose from. The place can get pretty crowded, but our wait time wasn't bad. The place has a laid back vibe, but the servers are on the move! I like the liquid butter on the table. Service & Food was fabulous! Our waitress, Katelyn was so sweet, patient and got our order correct. We had Tasty margaritas, but be aware, they charge over $3 for the added Blue Curaçao Liquor. One of the best cheese enchiladas I have had and the charro beans had so much flavor! The beef taco meat was delicious and made the taco salad even better. The habanero pork tamale was good and not too spicy. We preferred the Yellow Queso over the White Queso. The ambiance was welcoming and they played good music in my opinion. Went to restaurant because it was recommended. May the trip and the waiter was very nice and helpful. The food came out 45 minutes later but looked as though it was rushed through. Ordered the steak medium rare and shrimp. The shrimp was charred and burnt but the steak was closer to raw, not even blue. My wife's chicken breast looked like it came off a dove. The margarita had way too much mix to the point it tasted like a virgin drink. Waiter apologized and I told him it wasn't his fault the kitchen saws overwhelmed, rushed or incompetent. read more

Superb service and very good food. Their green salsa is my favorite. It was a great pit stop with toddlers. We were all spaced out and I witnessed them sanitizing the place after guests left. Definitely a hit for me. Only thing I wish is that they had house dressing of some kind. I felt like my salad was needing it! But that's a personal preference! read more

To start with I'm from Fort Worth and I live In Louisiana now so Tex Mex let alone good Tex Mex is almost impossible to find. There are several Jalapeño Tree restaurants in east Texas I've been to, but I like this one the best. The food is always great, the staff even better. Last visit yesterday, our server Claire was awesome! I stop in every time I go through Carthage. The ambiance is fantastic and the service matches its energy. Me and two other people came here to eat lunch and we got seated pretty quick and service is pretty good. Our booth is very messy there was very many crumbs left from the previous people that never got cleaned up, there was a fork on the ground and more crumbs in the seat other than that the food was pretty good. read more

The food is alright. The service is not fantastic but it is timely, servers/phone order personnel don't show much pride in how they present themselves or treat the customer. Not exactly a dining experience when your basic needs (refills, napkins) receive eye rolls. But I've worked at the Longview location in the past (10+ yrs ago however) and would say the customer service experience was never emphasized. Overall decent Tex-Mex BUT I would order for pickup. Best place in town for Mexican. I frequently use them for catering and their packaging is top notch. Everything is clearly packaged and stable. There is nothing more frustrating than refried beans spilling all over your backseat. The white queso is way better than the yellow. The flour tortillas are not fresh and nothing special. read more

Lousy terrible service!! We met family in Carthage for dinner we decided on the Jalepeno Tree what a mistake! We were taking to a table that we literally coukd not all fit in so we asked for a table. We were told it could possibly take 15 to 20 minutes we Saud ok and proceeded to wait for 40 to 45 minutes before we ask to just get an order to go. We were taking all the way to the back of the restaurant just to order take out and wait additional 35 minutes for our order. The food was very sub par as well! OMG this place is so fun! It was so hot...but it reminded us of Mexico. (The staff said it is not usually hot) We had ICE COLD tequila shots and Coronas. The staff was smiling, happy and very attentive. The salsa and guacamole sauce were delicious. We were so happy we went. read more

We were passing through Carthage on our way to Shreveport and decided to stop in at Jalapeño Tree for dinner once we saw the rating on Yelp. I recognized the name of the restaurant from the 2011 movie, "Bernie" (a dark comedy based on a true events in Carthage starring Jack Black & Shirley MacLaine- rent it ASAP if you haven't seen it). I don't know if scenes from the movie were actually filmed at the restaurant or on a Hollywood sound stage, but it was still fun to visit the spot because of the movie. The parking lot was super crowded for a Friday evening, but we didn't have to wait to be seated. As with most Tex-Mex restaurants, you are given the standard chips and salsa once you sit down, Here, you are also given a green sauce, which I actually enjoyed a lot more than the salsa (too much of a cilantro taste). We ordered a bowl of queso. You can order this appetizer in either a cup, a bowl, or a bread bowl. We skipped the bread bowl this time, but I thought it was a unique option. As far as the taste, I wouldn't say it was the best. It was a little bland compared to other quesos I've had, but we ate it anyway. Both my husband and I had the chicken quesadillas for dinner. He had the dinner portion, while I ordered the lunch portion. Mine was half the size of a normal order and it came with less filling. It was only chicken and cheese, but that's the way I like it. His had chicken, cheese, peppers, onions, and it was supposed to have tomatoes, but he asked to leave those off. We both thought they were quite excellent. Naturally, our entrees came with rice and beans. For dessert we ordered the sopapillas. It was good, but a little different than what we're used to. It kind of tasted like a pancake, & wasn't as crispy as you would expect. There was honey drizzled on the plate and also served on the side for dipping. It definitely could have used some Blue Bell vanilla ice cream, though. Maybe that was an option, but we didn't ask. They also had some kind of chocolate cake and a few other options for dessert as well. Overall, we had a good time at the Jalapeño Tree, and we'll definitely stop there again the next time we pass through Carthage. read more

My parents live on Lake Murvaul so every time my wife and I come visit we just have to make a stop at the Jalapeno Tree. We love this place. The salsa is the best! We are coming for a visit in August and hope to be able to stop back by a couple of times! read more

The food "can" be really tasty here but they are inconsistent from visit to visit in regard to how good the food is. One day it will be delicious and the next day it's completely bland. 4 stars because we had great service. I ordered two chicken enchiladas, and the whole meal was rather generic. It tasted fine, nothing special. It was as if the ingredients were purchased at Walmart. I mean, nothing was wrong with it, but I wasn't blown away. My mom ordered the Ixtapa, and she commented on how good it was every few minutes. So, apparently that tasted good. It's good. I mean, Jalapeño Tree has set a good standard as to what the experience should be. This is good for them because the standard is high. Ask for the salsa percosa. It's just ground up jalapeño but MAN O MAN it's good on some chips. read more

I do not understand how this place has 4 stars. The salsa taste like ketchup. The chips were stale. Our top shelf margarita taste like lemonade made from a powder mix. Worst queso that I have ever had. School lunch cafeteria food would have been better than our entrees. We both had stomach aches after. At least our server was pleasant. read more
