A town the size of Carthage is lucky to have a Tex-Mex restaurant as well run as Rancho Grande. The place is clean, the staff is efficient and friendly, and the food is good. It would be better if the chips were warm and the salsa spicy. Both were very bland. Maybe that's the way the home crowd likes it. The menu is huge -- seven pages long. I settled on a beef and chicken fajita combo ($21.95). It came with charro beans in a tortilla soup. It was delicious. The sizzling fajitas were moist and tender, but I would have preferred a little more sear on the beef -- it had none. There's a lot more to the menu to explore. read more

Ordered fajitas, came out dry, on a cold plate, with one red bell pepper slice and one whole jalapeño. Chicken was an overcooked, dry, uncut piece. Probably won't return. read more

We are from out of town and when we come in I want to come here! 1st off their salsa is served warm, it's amazing! Their drinks and food are always good! I usually get their steak street tacos and last time, my husband got the Chicken Vallarta. Very good! They are usually pretty busy so we got there early last time (around 4pm) and were able to be seated right away. read more

Update-taco Tuesday is gone as is free drinks. They do have live music out on enclosed patio! read more

My husband and I went to eat there this afternoon. It started out nice, then it went downhill from there. It took several times asking for more salsa and when the waiter filled our drink glasses again, he spilt tea all over the table and me. I took a drink of my tea and it was sweet. He finally brought back an unsweetened and forgot the straw. After about forty five minutes waiting for our food. The waiter said the plates are very hot, well, that was the only thing that was hot. I took a bite of my chicken enchiladas and they were very cold. My husband's enchiladas were covered in cheese sauce so much that he had to scrape it off to find the enchiladas. Then after my husband finished eating what was edible, we waited 15 or 20 minutes for the waiter to comeback with our check. I finally had to go ask the cashier for our check and another waiter took care of it. The food was inedible. Needless to say that was the first and last time we will eat there. read more

It was OK. I'm biased as it's just down the road from one of my favorites. The chips are a little over cooked and the salsa was kind of bland. Even my 10 year old added hot sauce to it. The food did come out hot and fresh, good portions and quality. The waiter was very attentive and patient with out group. Overall, the food was just OK for me. read more

Just passing through town. Stopped and had the fajitas...probably the best I've ever had.

I am torn about this place. Sometimes the food is excellent and other times it's a little plain. The chicken however is excellent! The service is fast and efficient but not overly friendly. This restaurant in a bigger town would be 2 stars but in a town like Carthage it's 4 stars. read more

Stood at the door waiting to be seated, while the hostess counted all her coins and bills. Had several other staff members walk past and no one helped. Once finally seated at a table, we were again ignored for a good 5-7 minutes. We got up and left. read more

We used to love this place. Lately though. Prices have gone up while quality and portion size has gone down. Mediocre at best

I'm giving them four stars just because of their hot sauce! It's awesome!! Food was good but hot sauce was great. Will definitely go back anytime I'm in town. read more

We have been coming here for over 10 years . Over the past year Rancho has vastly improved cleanliness and food quality. I am super impressed with the changes in menu and food quality. The fajitas are much improved in the past they were tough as shoe leather but super yummy I recommend trying the Carnitas one of the best editions to the menu Thank you read more

Had work lunch here and it was very good. Hot chips, warm fresh salsa. I was with other people we all ordered something different and we all throughly enjoyed our meal. Staff was friendly and on top of things. Very cute place. If your a ice team eater, they have a free ice cream machine too. Not really my thing, but the other two enjoyed their desserts. I will eat here again if in the area for lunch again. I recommend this place for lunch in Carthage Tx read more

El Rancho Grande - Lunch quesadillas - Mexican Near Me - Carthage, Texas

We rolled in on Friday, Sept. 12th around 7PM based on the good reviews on Yelp. Service was prompt and friendly, prices were OK but the water tasted like they were fracking next door - really horrible and I've had some horrible smelling and tasting water. The water was so unpalatable, it ruined the rest of the meal and the cheese enchiladas tasted off, as if they were affected by the water. They advertised margaritas, but said they were out of supplies (really, at 7PM on a Friday night you are out of mix and supplies?) so I ordered a beer. "We don't serve beer" - really, a Mexican restaurant in TX that doesn't serve beer? Needless to say, we won't be back. To the restaurant; fix your water supply problem, filter your water or buy bottled water but do something because the smell and taste is a real turnoff. You and your local customer base may be acclimated (like the person with four cats in their house and can't smell anything) but believe me, it ain't right. read more

Have had good experiences here. The food is always good, as is the service. Really enjoy the salsa, which is warm but tasty. The tableside guacamole is definitely worth a try if you like guac. In my opinion, the best Mexican food in Carthage. read more

Our waiter went out of his way to provide fantastic service. The salsa is a warm tomato and black pepper based salsa, the best I've had in years. I cannot recommend this place enough, it was a great meal and if I'm back in the area I will stop by. read more

Was in town for business and had both lunch and dinner here. Very tasty authentic regional Mexican cuisine. Understandable why it was packed at both lunch and dinner times. The staff is very welcoming and friendly as well. read more

We Arrived and were seated immediately, the waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the live entertainment was great. The warm salsa was a little different but very good and the waitress was not hesitant to keep our bowls full of it as well as give us a second basket of chips. I got the grilled shrimp tacos and I loved them! read more

The staff is very attentive and brings you a lot of chips. The salsa is warm and sort of tastes like pizza sauce with an absurd amount of pepper. We had tamales, which left a lot to be desired. The cheese sauce tasted like cheap circus cheese, but at least it doesn't cost as much as a circus charges. Their rice was really good though. Generally, I would advise looking to eat somewhere else. read more

Been here a year in a half. Probably my favorite place to eat. Wait staff never forgets to bring extra chips. The patio outside is my favorite place. Great decorations, and if you go on Tuesday you are in for a treat w/a $1 taco that rocks. read more

Was pleasantly surprised by this place... wasn't aware it was here ... 1 block of the usual beaten path in Carthage... Very unusual hot sauce.... Very flavorful and served warm ... Liked it very much .... Food came out very quick... And service was very good. Had the #38 and highly recommend it! Def worth a trip in... I will be back!! read more

We go every Tuesday with extended family. Tacos are a dollar on Tuesdays. The chips are good and if you like your salsa warm this is the place for you. I take my own salsa...LOL. If you are a drinker you get two margaritas free with your meal. Kids eat free on Monday! read more

Went here with a party of 5 and a friend of ours came with a party of 6. Separate table separate bills. But both tables charged 30% tip on each bill. And Manager argued with us and said that is the rules. Needless to say we went back to the tables and removed the tips we left on table. TOTAL RIP OFF HERE! read more

Don't waste your money. I've tried this place 4 times now, giving it the benefit of the doubt. They only good thing is their salsa. That is it. Don't order anything that requires water, try a coke, otherwise it will taste and smell like pond water. Their queso tastes like warmed up can cheese from Sam's. They are constantly out of supplies, and everything is very bland and very greasy. The atmosphere is wonderful, as is,their salsa, hence the 1 star... otherwise it would be zero stars. read more

I go to this restaurant in Nacogdoches Texas, but today my boyfriend and I ate here in Carthage Texas. We waited for 15+ minutes to even be approached, once we had a server she had horrible customer service. Definitely not going back to this place! read more

Everything is good, hot , could use some more spiciness for my taste but for the price worth it. Margarita on the rocks was good but small.
