No pork? No fish? Vegetarian? No problem. Love pork? Love fish? Omnivore? No problem. We really had no idea where we were going when we boarded the taxi at our hotel and headed into Birmingham. I had spent a few minutes on Yelp and the Jewellery Quarter seemed like it had a number of good restaurants. Our cab driver was very friendly and helpful and pointed out several options for where we might eat when we reached our destination. It was getting late and it was damp and cold out, so we figured that Henry's Cantonese - despite its middle-of-the-road Yelp reviews was as good a bet as any. As we entered the restaurant it appeared to be packed. A good sign! It was only after we actually were seated did it become evident that all the people we saw was a single large party, possibly a group of co-workers. No matter. The service at Henry's was very polite and attentive. We ordered some drinks and appetizers and got down to studying the menu, which was very diverse and extensive. After a long day, we were happy to have a chance to sit back and relax a bit, so we waited for our appetizers to arrive before ordering our main dishes. The wait staff was perfectly happy to accommodate our leisurely pace. The Deep Fried Crispy Won Tons (http://bit.ly/XOBwX8) arrived first and they made quite a statement, with a large and almost artistic thin won ton crust deep fried to nearly the consistency of a cracker. Next came the Satay Chicken Skewers (http://bit.ly/XOBvCI) which were bathed in a thick peanut sauce. The chicken was prepared perfectly, tender and juicy. Finally, the Deep Fried Vegetarian Spring Rolls arrived which I have to admit were a bit disappointing, both because there were only two spring rolls and because they didn't meet the same standards as the other appetizers. (Pro tip for the wait staff: If there are three at a table and they order an appetizer that comes in twos, maybe mention that to them. Better to have one extra than one too few.) Two of us ordered the Chicken and Sweet Corn soup which was delicious. The third of us ordered the Chicken Won Ton soup and also enjoyed it thoroughly. At the time we ordered our main dishes we were concerned that we had ordered way too much food: Deep Fried Crispy Sichuan Beef (http://bit.ly/XOBbnl) Stir Fried Chicken and Cashew Nuts (http://bit.ly/XOBdLT) Sweet & Sour Tofu (http://bit.ly/XOBcI0) Grilled Honey and Black Pepper Chicken (http://bit.ly/XOB8YG) Vegetable Fried Rice But, by the time we were done, nearly every dish was cleaned out and each was delicious in its own way. My favorite dish was probably the Deep Fried Crispy Sichuan Beef. Why does everything taste so good when it's deep fried? The beef was crispy and tender. How do they do that? The Stir Fried Chicken and Cashew Nuts was served thick with vegetables and was perfect. The Sweet and Sour Tofu was probably the least popular dish at the table. The tofu was a bit soft for my particular taste. Still the majority of the plate was eaten. The Grilled Honey and Black Pepper Chicken, which was ordered off the Chef's Special Recommendations menu was gone in no time. Fantastic. I have to say that the fact that Henry's Cantonese only has a 3-star average on Yelp is perplexing to me. The existing reviews seem to focus on two issues, one being that it is expensive and the second, that some of the dishes are served greasy. Happily that was not our experience at all. The food was across the board 4-star and 5-star quality and not one dish, including the vegetable fried rice, was greasy in anyway. Our total bill for three, including alcohol and tip was £91.70 or about USD $139.30. Now maybe that's a lot for simple take out, but this was not take out. It was a leisurely meal, in a lovely restaurant (including a live piano player) with delicious food and great service. What a pleasure it is to be able to write that last sentence. What a pleasure our entire meal was.

It's sort of awkward because it's the only restaurant right in/near St. Paul's and a little further from the main road where restuarants are in the Jewelry District. I decided to pick up some mapo tofu because i wanted tofu! and i was too lazy to walk too far. So, I ordered some mapo tofu for lunch. It was fine. Not too much to say.... it was a little greasy, I think. But it was fine. Nothing too memorable, nothing horrible. They had someone playing a piano in the evening, so I guess that can be nice..... It's really quiet. Ambience is nice as well.

It serves rather good dim sum and yumcha special dishes as well as having an all you can eat buffet too. There's also a steamboat "da bin lo" style buffet as well. Dim sum is ordered on the strip paper and the one is in Chinese but you can ask for an English version. The portions here too are suffering from credit crunch shrinkage. At times, you see more of the plate than the food but it's still good.

From tappenyaki to Yakitori, dim sum and barbeque grill this place has every imaginable Chinese dish. My friends and I have been using this place since it opened in 1998. The best way to enjoy Wing Wah's is to opt for the buffet. This way you can experience every dish and you can keep filling your plate until you can eat no more, go on I dare you.

The service is basic at best, the staff are efficient but not too attentive. They also do not accept card so it's cash only, which is a downside. I loved the seafood bibimbap and spicy tofu jigae, both tasted divine. Overall high quality flavorful and authentic Korean food, cheap prices, generous portions but average service.

I've been visiting here occasionally with my family for years and am still yet to have an unsatisfactory experience. The set menu is well priced and the waiters will allow you swap dishes you dislike for anything you fancy at no extra cost, and authentic Asian beers are available on tap. Inside, there's an elegant, romantic feel generated by the easy-listening soundtrack, lush red décor, themed lanterns and meticulously folded napkins. The waiters are all friendly, the turnaround is impressive, and unlike other independent restaurants, the staff don't try to rush you or give you a set time to vacate your table. Thanks to its great food, intimate set-up and excellent staff, this local wonder is one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever visited in Birmingham.

A good deal at normal prices for £30 but we got half off with the scheme. Service is nothing special and due to the crowds we had to wait for each dish. Value and taste was worth the visit.

All the food I have had here is always pretty spot on. On this festive visit we decided to share a few dishes ordering the pork ramen, chilli chicken, yeung chow fried rice and the chicken wings...a bit of an over eat but it is the time of the year for it. Everything was cooked to perfection but the real star of the show was the yeung chow rice. At some places I have ordered this dish they have made the meat the main element of it with a few lonely grains of rice around the plate, but this was a beautifully cooked plate of rice with plenty of egg and a selection of meat and fish running through it, it was really something..especially with lashings of soy sauce. The staff here are really accommodating asking where you would like to sit and also if you would like your food as it is ready or all together, they are also more than happy to explain the extensive menu if you ask about any of the dishes or want them to make recommendations. There are a lot of places to choose from in this area but I think Pepper Chef is a solid choice if you are looking for a decent Chinese. I'll be back.
