ChowBa in place of the old V2. Brought a smile to my face when I passed it the first time on the BRMB walkathon...whats that big inflatable dragon sticking up from the back of that restaurant? Must check it out next time. The missus and I decided on the following Sunday for an outing to this CHOW BA, what ever that means, may be the sign maker missed the R from tha BA :D Gotta ask the staff next time. I know 'chow' means fried cuz my local takeaway told me CHOW MEIN and CHOW FAN means fried noodles and fried rice!!ha ha
Most buffet places are frequented by 'westerners' but this one had just as many chinese eating here. Must be a good sign right?.
Wasn't bursting to overflow like bigwok but was only half full. Must be because its on the outskirts of china town, maybe a good attraction if bigwok style cosyness(squeezyness) is a put off.
First thing that grabs your attention when inside is a proper chinese steamer thingy cooking fresh dim sum in front of you. Then theres a long row of food almost to half way up the restaurant. Didn't count how many dishes there are but seems plenty to choose from. Lots of stuff I've never tried before.
Their drinks menu had a good selection of 'new' drinks, new to me anyway. I had the one with lemon grass in it, the name evades me at the mo but is unimportant cuz you just need to know its fab. I'll give the other ones a try next time.
Tried their chinese fried starters first, lovely, I bet I would never have had the chance to try these out in a normal restaurant because I wouldn't know what to order.
I must admit I didn't bother with some of their selection of food because its the normal chinese restaurant/takeaway stuff which us westerners always seem to eat. You know stuff like sweet and sour or spareribs or yuk sung etc. It was the more authentic "ethnic" food which I really wanted to tried, nice most things indeed were. Unsure about the chinese "jelly" deserts but the chinese family next to us seem to like it. Just like crispy jelly as if that can be achieved? ;) Anyway I've been to many chinese buffet restaurants in and around the West Mids and this one must be the first to serve china town quality dim sum, roast duck and crispy pork. One downer though their labeling system wasn't up to scratch I wasn't too sure what I was eating a certain stages even though they tasted great.
Well done CHOW BA....a big thumbs up from me and the wifey read more
