Tin tin restaurant seems ok at first appearance it's quite large and looks fairly clean, but on arrival my parter and I were the first of our party to arrive and nobody came to see to us to see who we were with or if we just wanted a table leaving us to wait there for 10 minuets until a few other people from our party arrived.
When the others arrived they claimed that we had called up and said that 10 less people were coming (nobody from our party had called them since the initial booking) so they didn't know where to put up again leaving us waiting around to be seated.
Eventually we did get seated in the private room which was again ok but just ok it was cold and filled with spare chairs and the tables were at two opposite sides of the room so there could be little conversation between tables. The one perk of the private room was that it had a karaoke machine but that's about it.
And then it came to the service we all ordered our appetisers and mains and that went quite smoothly for such a large group (22). When it actually came to them serving us though it was extremely disjointed, if people had ordered the same thing they just put it all on one plate with out asking us first if that would be alright, as you can imagine that can be quite trouble some of you are not sitting right next to the person you are sharing with. When it came to bringing the mains out they seemed to abandon order all together and just dumped our food in the the middle of the table for us to try and figure out what each dish was and who it was for. The food it's self was alright it tasted decent but the cuts of meat used were not great, I thought it was very over priced for what it was, considering you can get a bigger better meal from cafe soya for half the price.
Once we had finished And had a go on the karaoke it came the time to pay which is where most of the trouble started if I'm honest half of our menus said that the service charge was optional and half of them said it wasn't, we brought this up with the staff who said that it wasn't optional so then we showed them the menus and they got some one who I can only assume was the manager and he was being quite cocky about it even though we showed him our menus, the website and the outside board, that all said the charge was optional and to ask for it to be taken off the bill. He eventually relented and said he would take it off the bill but not before harassing they person who had booked the table (the person who's birthday we were there to celebrate) saying that he got confused with someone else who booked the same night with the exact same first and last name (she does not have a common name so this was probably untrue) and then saying the charge was for the private room even though when she booked the table we asked if there were any extra charges for being in that room and he said no because we didn't care where we sat.
So in conclusion I would not go back to tin tin Cantonese restaurant, the staff are arrogant and not very friendly, the atmosphere is dated (you get a nice view of the canal if you're in the main dinng room but that's it), and the food is mediocre.
considering all of the amazing Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese and Thai restaurants there are in the city centre I would not willingly go to tin tin again because there are much better options 5minutes away which are better valu for money and have better food and service. read more
