He is extremely knowledgeable. I found out he used to teach residents prior, and it's no wonder since he is a expert in the care he provides. The staff is always very nice when I come in for my annuals, too. The nurses reassure me to take my time and I don't feel rushed. When we came to see Dr chou, it just so happened that the day prior to the visit, it looked like he had another allergic reaction with swollen eyelid and rash all over both legs and butt. He had eaten black beans and Gerber oatmeal and Mrs dash seasoning. We told her about this reaction he had and she said it was likely just some "viral reaction". I am not sure what that even means. Well it definitely was not some BS viral reaction. He had a allergic reaction to the gerber oatmeal. You would think a trained allergist who specializes in food allergy would be able to decipher that gerber oatmeal (and most baby oatmeal) actually contains wheat. And wheat is a common allergen. My wife and I figured this out later on our own. But only after our son had a anaphylactic reaction to gerber oatmeal a few weeks later. If Dr Chou had taken more time to actually listen to us instead of dismiss us and say it was a "viral reaction". She could have and should have caught that our son had a reaction to the oatmeal with wheat ingredient. She was nice overall but who cares about nice, we needed someone to help us figure out our son's food allergy problems. She did not do that and gave us terrible advice instead that caused us much bigger problems later on.

I was told that microneedling and prp would help reduce the stretch mark, I decided to go for it. It all went downhill from here. I came in for my appt. after work and they were running behind, I waited for almost an hour, fine with me. Then I was finally taken in the room and I showed her which areas I wanted to get done and she proceeded to tell me "oh that's a big area, I won't be able to get everything done today, can you come back tomorrow for the rest?" I said that's fine. Then we proceeded to get my blood drawn and she added numbing cream to the area but of course.... she was running out of numbing cream so she barely put any. She leaves the room while we wait for the numbing cream to kick in but then I waited for almost an hour cause she was still trying to take care of another patient, she kept apologizing and kept saying she doesn't understand why the front desk only books for X amount of time for these kind of session. When she finally came back to do the microneedling, she warned me it was going to be prickling... fine but then she also kept going over the same area because she wanted "to go deeper to get the most out of it"... I was in pain but I held it in because I trusted her.... she kept going over the area MULTIPLE TIMES!!!! I left there in so much pain and couldn't shower for days... I paid a pretty good amount for the session, came back the following day to another esthetician and paid for "another session" even though my first session wasn't done. I told the front desk but I didn't want to argue with them and was just glad that something can be done with the stretch mark. The second session was much less invasive and the healing process took no more than 3 days. The first session was still no where close to healing after 3 days... all in all it took almost a month for it heal. It took almost a whole week before I could shower normally and tolerate the pain from the wound. I was told that I would need a series of this process and should wait 4-6 weeks to come back. I was also told the healing process would take no longer than a week... true for the second session but completely false for the first session. For almost the entire month I was in pain but I thought it was normal because she had done it deeper, nor did she tell me to put anything on it to help with the healing process. Fast forward to 6-8 weeks later, I started getting hyperpigmentation... it was done wayyyy to deep that it damaged my skin. I called them and sent them pictures about it and I was told... "it may have been because I was stress" I ended up going to another place asking about it and the doctor told me that they should have been more careful as this area is sensitive and that they had damaged my skin due to the fact that they went too deep. I was given a hyperpigmentation bar to use and a cream to help with this but I've been even more self conscious about my legs than I ever was before. It's summer and I've not worn shorts or any type of clothing that would show my legs... I tried to come back but my schedule was getting pretty hectic and then when I was finally able to make an appointment it got rescheduled because the doctor was going to be out at which point I just gave up because I don't think they would have been able to help me, I was really curious to see what they would have said but I don't think they would have done anything.. they were no where near apologetic about what happened nor where they trying to help out. Now I'm down almost $600 only to leave with even worse feeling than before. Long story short, don't come here to get anything done for your skin otherwise you'll just walk away with worse skin than before and $$$ money short. Worst money I've ever spent!!!!!!!!!! Additionally, the experience at their facility was exceptional both with their billing services, customer support, and the Dr. who took care of me. I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Monaco so he could speak to me a little bit more about his services as well as answer a few questions I had concerning the impact I was looking for (I came to him for a sudden limitation in mobility in my neck and spine). As a yoga instructor, I can happily say this guy was legit; his anatomical knowledge and ethical practices were incredible and he made me feel very comfortable from my first moment at the clinic. He also takes a trauma-informed approach, asking for permission and consent prior to contact which should be the norm across the board of all medical/wellness facilities but unfortunately is not always the case. His humor and kindness carried me through the more painful/uncomfortable portions of my adjustments which also made my visits that much more enjoyable! I purchased a package of sessions and they even offered to work with me on billing since my insurance covered nothing, which was very kind. At one point, it's worth noting I was double charged despite my knowledge but their billing department refunded me right away. With Covid-19, I was also a little nervous as I was only half vaccinated during the majority of my sessions. They were insanely clean and offered hand sanitizer, temperature checks, and all wore masks every time. Dr. Monaco had also mentioned to me that as a health and wellness facility, they had all already been vaccinated so that made me feel extra confident about attending. I received 'homework' from Dr. Monaco which consisted of a few simple exercises I did daily; this combined with the adjustments I received, I was feeling back to normal in terms of mobility after about 6 weeks which I was ELATED about. I arrived in spontaneous labor and was having strong, regular contractions on my own. My labor was progressing normally and was not prolonged. Around 5 cm dilated, my daughter experienced her first heart rate deceleration. Rather than taking a more cautious approach after that change, Dr. Salasche told me she wanted to start Pitocin and manually break my water. I questioned why these interventions were necessary. As a nurse, I understood that Pitocin would intensify my contractions and that breaking my water would remove the protective cushion of amniotic fluid surrounding my baby. Given that she had already experienced a heart rate deceleration, I was deeply concerned that these interventions could place her under even more stress. My labor was already progressing naturally, and my contractions were strong and effective without augmentation. I specifically told Dr. Salasche that I did not want my water broken or Pitocin started at that point based on both my clinical knowledge as a nurse and my intuition as a mother. Despite making my wishes clear, she forcefully broke my water and told me I "didn't have a choice." They did not start Pitocin after I repeatedly refused. In that moment, I felt powerless. No one should ever be made to feel that informed consent no longer applies simply because she is in labor. What happened next was equally disturbing. My labor nurse advocated for me, asking that we respect my wishes and allow my daughter time to recover from her heart rate deceleration before proceeding with additional interventions like breaking my water or starting Pitocin. Rather than engaging in a thoughtful discussion, Dr. Salasche yelled at the nurse in front of me, stating that she had given her an order and instructing her not to undermine her. As both a patient and a nurse, witnessing a physician berate a nurse for advocating for her patient was heartbreaking. Instead of fostering teamwork during a critical moment, it created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. I will always be grateful to that nurse for having the courage to advocate for me and my daughter when I felt my own voice had been taken away. Nurses truly are the heart of healthcare. Throughout my labor, my daughter continued to experience episodes of heart rate decelerations, and at the time no one knew why. After delivery, we learned that she had a short and marginally inserted umbilical cord and cord compression. Looking back, I can't help but question whether attempting to augment my labor with Pitocin and manually breaking my water after those initial decelerations could have placed my daughter at even greater risk. While no one can know with certainty what would have happened, those decisions continue to weigh heavily on me given what we later learned. In fact, while under Dr. Norlin's care during my pregnancy our daughter's heart rate had dropped from 150/160 to 120 about a week prior to delivery. I thought it was clinically significant and also mentioned I felt really small being so close to my due date and that my sister had placenta issues so I was concerned. I asked for a scan and she said no. Now we know this: After delivery, pathology revealed multiple abnormal findings, including an extremely short 14 cm umbilical cord, a significantly small placenta, and circummarginate membranes. My labor was not prolonged. I received my epidural around 2:00 a.m., and my daughter was born vaginally just after 10:00 a.m - healthy and happy. I was progressing naturally, yet I was repeatedly pushed toward unnecessary interventions. I never felt heard, respected, or safe in Dr. Salasche's care. Every patient deserves informed consent and respect. I'm incredibly grateful that my daughter is healthy, but I cannot recommend this practice based on my experience. My hope is that no other woman leaves her birth feeling that her voice was taken away.
