The doctors and NPs called me consistently to check in and took every fear I had seriously. All of those doctors got me through a very horrific time in my life. I am very much looking forward to delivering at northwestern because I trust every single doctor there.

As both a patient and a nurse, my labor and delivery experience with Dr. Salasche was extremely…read moretraumatic. It has taken me one year to work up the courage to write this. I arrived in spontaneous labor and was having strong, regular contractions on my own. My labor was progressing normally and was not prolonged. Around 5 cm dilated, my daughter experienced her first heart rate deceleration. Rather than taking a more cautious approach after that change, Dr. Salasche told me she wanted to start Pitocin and manually break my water. I questioned why these interventions were necessary. As a nurse, I understood that Pitocin would intensify my contractions and that breaking my water would remove the protective cushion of amniotic fluid surrounding my baby. Given that she had already experienced a heart rate deceleration, I was deeply concerned that these interventions could place her under even more stress. My labor was already progressing naturally, and my contractions were strong and effective without augmentation. I specifically told Dr. Salasche that I did not want my water broken or Pitocin started at that point based on both my clinical knowledge as a nurse and my intuition as a mother. Despite making my wishes clear, she forcefully broke my water and told me I "didn't have a choice." They did not start Pitocin after I repeatedly refused. In that moment, I felt powerless. No one should ever be made to feel that informed consent no longer applies simply because she is in labor. What happened next was equally disturbing. My labor nurse advocated for me, asking that we respect my wishes and allow my daughter time to recover from her heart rate deceleration before proceeding with additional interventions like breaking my water or starting Pitocin. Rather than engaging in a thoughtful discussion, Dr. Salasche yelled at the nurse in front of me, stating that she had given her an order and instructing her not to undermine her. As both a patient and a nurse, witnessing a physician berate a nurse for advocating for her patient was heartbreaking. Instead of fostering teamwork during a critical moment, it created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. I will always be grateful to that nurse for having the courage to advocate for me and my daughter when I felt my own voice had been taken away. Nurses truly are the heart of healthcare. Throughout my labor, my daughter continued to experience episodes of heart rate decelerations, and at the time no one knew why. After delivery, we learned that she had a short and marginally inserted umbilical cord and cord compression. Looking back, I can't help but question whether attempting to augment my labor with Pitocin and manually breaking my water after those initial decelerations could have placed my daughter at even greater risk. While no one can know with certainty what would have happened, those decisions continue to weigh heavily on me given what we later learned. In fact, while under Dr. Norlin's care during my pregnancy our daughter's heart rate had dropped from 150/160 to 120 about a week prior to delivery. I thought it was clinically significant and also mentioned I felt really small being so close to my due date and that my sister had placenta issues so I was concerned. I asked for a scan and she said no. Now we know this: After delivery, pathology revealed multiple abnormal findings, including an extremely short 14 cm umbilical cord, a significantly small placenta, and circummarginate membranes. My labor was not prolonged. I received my epidural around 2:00 a.m., and my daughter was born vaginally just after 10:00 a.m - healthy and happy. I was progressing naturally, yet I was repeatedly pushed toward unnecessary interventions. I never felt heard, respected, or safe in Dr. Salasche's care. Every patient deserves informed consent and respect. I'm incredibly grateful that my daughter is healthy, but I cannot recommend this practice based on my experience. My hope is that no other woman leaves her birth feeling that her voice was taken away.

I went to this Northwestern Immediate Care location in Chicago strictly for routine blood work as…read morepart of my annual exam. This visit was only for a blood draw. There was no consultation, no exam, and I did not see or speak with any doctor at that location. Despite this, a "doctor's visit" was billed at nearly $700. After insurance, I was still charged $321 out of pocket for a visit that never happened. I had to call several times and got only impolite responses saying that the bill was correct, although I was charged for a visit which never happened. Fortunately my primary care doctor, who is based at a different Northwestern location, helped escalate the issue, and their office manager was able to get the charge corrected. I appreciate their help in resolving it. However, the incorrect charge originated from the Immediate Care location itself, which is very concerning. Patients should not be billed for services they did not receive. Because of this experience, I would not return to this location and would not recommend it to others. This is not my first experience with Northwestern Medicine facilities charging for services I did not receive or billing twice for the same service. If it were not for my doctor-who is truly exceptional, takes time with patients, and provides outstanding care-I would avoid Northwestern altogether. Stay away and avoid problems.

From the moment I got there the reception lady took since forever to end with the questions ,put me to pay in advance 250$ since I'm an unemployed and no insurance...and God knows what I sign because it's not that they explain you , you have to read and figure it out by yourself, also if you're not feeling good. Once I finally got in ,the nurse took me the pressure, asked me question what happened, she really wasn't that nice tho had an attitude that wasn't nice at all . After they decide to make me an EKG which also there an experience because seems was the first time for her doing that and wasn't pleasant to wait in those shirts that they give you there because was very cold in that room . After that I asked to call my husband from outside because I don't feel comfortable alone up there . The nurse come back again and said I'll do an X-ray and I said definitely not because I'll not radiate myself for something that it's pointless to check the type of the pain that I have and she said she will call the doctor which I agreed. Took 30 min for Dr. Wong Claire to come and honestly it's not fun to wait in a cold room and also my husband start to be frustrated and he said if it was something urgent maybe she will have hurry up instead to chat all of them in a room nearby. Once she was there she agree that an x-ray was pointless in my case , start again to ask me the same question as the nurse which honestly I don't understand why ,since all was type in the computer. In the end she said they don't have blood test to help more , the EKG looks okay because in case was something wrong with my heart "you can see with until 10 min after". She asked me if I went to go to ER and I said I'll go home since I start to have also headache because I was cold and in case I still not feel ok I'll go there. Didn't got anything for the elevate pressure, or future cure or advise. I asked if I can have a copy of the situation there and she bring me that and said I'm good to go that's it and we left. Tng God I had home some pills for heart to relax and feel okay I talked with my family doctor on the phone and said was a panic attack and recommended me what to take . The following week seems that they call me but since it's unknown number I never answer and got a letter to give them a call back " to speak about my test results " ironic cuz they didn't seems to care much when I was there and in need so very unprofessional. After 2 months I start to received letters that I owe them money ... I called the place he reception lady she said she can't explain ( maybe type my name and try to read what's inside of the computer?!? ... just saying ) . I called also the financial counseling number and explain what happened not even them know what to said . So basically apart that looks from the papers I paid less , I also owe money for nothing basically so for me this place it's a big scam where they take advantage of the people that don't feel well and try to make them pay money and not do anything!!! I feel harassed with emails and letters but nobody it's in the position to explain for what I owe money. Wish I was reading the reviews before if I could have had the chance to definitely avoid this place!!!

I decided to come here for the first time for a consult of IUD replacement options, and was comfortable enough during the consult to go ahead with a full general exam/pap smear, and Dr.King even offered comprehensive bloodwork to be done as I had some concerns. He was extremely professional, compassionate, listened to every concern I had and addressed every thing I was worried about. He mentioned things I hadn't even heard of other clinics doing like performing an ultrasound during the IUD insertion so they can see it being inserted properly, as well as anesthetic options. Dr. King gave me a few options to choose from for replacement/pain management and I'm so grateful to have gone to him. He made sure that I asked every question I can think of, and I really felt heard. Women's health care should be a much bigger priority when we are discussing pain management, long-term care, and making sure that patients feel comfortable enough to go back to maintain health. I felt like this office and Dr.King really care for their patients, and the Office Manager also came to check in with me to make sure if there was anything else they can do to make my visit more pleasant, and also gave me detailed information about costs that I had requested. I made an appointment for my IUD replacement, and I have already recommended this place to a couple others. I saw that the other negative reviews were mostly about not being vaccinated/boostered for COVID. I am grateful that this clinic prioritizes their staff and patient's health and was even more of a green flag. Everyone was mindful, polite, and made my experience comfortable

Dr Engelkemeir's (EN-gull-keh-MY-er), is by far THE BEST doctor I have ever seen. Like I said, I've been to a lot of docs, incl neurologists, of course ob's, otolaryngologists, and more, and no one has been as attentive as Dr E, as the staff calls her. She truly listens to what I have to say and actually lets me finish my sentence before responding. In fact, she was on her way out the door at the end of one of my appts, and I said "OH! One more thing?" and she said "Oh sure, sure!" and shut the door, put her clipboard down and took a seat. Wouldn't you agree that most docs would hang in the door way with it wide open and wait for you to quickly ask your question? Not Dr E. She stuck around for another 10 mins! PERSONALLY CALLS PATIENTS BACK!!!: On one of my appts with Dr E, I forgot to ask her for refills on a Rx that I originally obtained from my previous PCP. So, a couple days later I called the office and left a message with the phone person stating that I needed an Rx from Dr E, but it wasn't a refill with her. About an hour later, Dr E CALLED ME HERSELF!!! Not the receptionist. Not the nurse. The doctor! I have NEVER heard that happen before! SMILES: Doctors don't smile enough. They don't feel welcoming or comforting. Dr E is always smiling - and not in the phony or belittling way - in a sincere way. I really think she's happy helping her patients and is actually concerned about the welfare of her patients. My old doc used to lecture me with a frown... =\ I'm pretty sure that I'll be sticking with Dr E permanently. I'm even thinking ahead and hoping she'll accept my children as new patients (that is, when I have kids). BTW, the staff at Seton Family Health Center are SUPER friendly and also welcoming! I switched from my doctor in hopes of getting a second opinion for my health issues that my prior…read moredoctor was unable to diagnose and treat for three years. I saw not Dr. Engelkemeir, but a physician from her office that was available for an appointment, Dr. Thu Pham. I had read a past review on Yelp that this office had refused a Pap smear to another patient, but assumed it was maybe a fluke. I was wrong. I too (because I'm now 30) was refused a pap. I thought this was odd because I was complaining about pain in this area. She still advised against it. So I decided to just get my oral contraceptive prescription refilled as I've been doing for the last 5+ years. She advised that although it's my decision, she made me aware of the risks (which I've known for many years). I called a few days later to check on the prescription and was told that she would not be authorizing my refill. She instead suggested the patch or the shot, which I've tried and disliked in the past. This means my insurance company likely spent hundreds of dollars on this doctor and I spent my time and I yielded absolutely nothing. I was not examined properly as requested and scheduled and I'm unable to refill my prescription. A huge waste of time and money. Apparently I'm too old for a pap, but too young (or incompetent) to make wise decisions about my body and to continue use of a medication I have years of experience with.
