This was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a doctor. Dr. Martinez was not only disrespectful and rude, but it seemed like he was deliberately trying to start a fight with patients, staff, you name it. Minutes after I checked in with the lovely front desk girl, Robin, Dr. Martinez marched up to her and, in front of the entire waiting room, threatened her with "immediate termination." Regardless of the context, humiliating her publicly like that is absolutely unacceptable. She looked like she was on the verge of tears while the doctor laughed at her--this alone made me want to walk out. But of course, they'll charge you a ridiculous $175 cancellation fee if you do. The doctor himself is beyond unprofessional. He doesn't listen, doesn't care about your time, and only wants to upsell you on expensive cosmetic procedures. He constantly talked about himself and his inflated ego. At one point, he even forcefully grabbed my cell phone, scanned a QR code without my permission, and tried to pressure me into leaving a positive review--offering a "reward" in exchange. It's clear how he's racking up fake reviews, likely buying off patients to cover up for the numerous complaints and legal cases against him, which I discovered after a quick google search. I'll never be back, and I'm honestly shocked this man is still in business. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Totally unprofessional. After conducting a funeral at Rosehill Cemetery on the far north side of Chicago I rushed off to Dr. Martinez-Diaz's office for a 1:45 appointment. At 1:47 I received a call wondering where I was. I told them I was at the corner of Adam and Morgan and would be right there. Anticipating no problem, I took off my coat, turned over my driver's license and credit card, whereby I was told that the office closes for lunch at 2:00P.M. (No mention of this on their website!) And that I would have to come back at another time which turned out to be 2 or 3 hours later. I am a Lutheran Pastor who had a full schedule of my own that afternoon (some of whom were on time and others who were late) and could not return today. The otherwise quite nice receptionist told me that because I would not be able to reschedule that day I would be charged for a missed appointment. I didn't miss the appointment! I was standing in the office not more than 5 minutes late before the doctor decided to hightail it off to lunch. Sorry, this is not the way I treat my parishioners, neither has it be the way any other doctor I have ever had in my very long time on this earth acted. By being unwilling to wait 5 minutes for a patient Dr. Martinez-Diaz exhibited stunningly unprofessional behavior. Needless to say, I am looking for another Dermatologist who cares more about his patients than he does his lunch. read more

I never leave Yelp reviews but my appointment at MD has not sat right with me. I witnessed the doctor reprimanding one of his employees in front of a waiting room of patients. The doctor used aggressive language and spoke to the employee in a condescending tone that was embarrassing and demeaning. No one should be spoken to this way. If he disputes this claim, be warned: it's true. Dr. Martinez Diaz is very knowledgeable but terse. His bed side manner is impatient and agitated. He tries to end the appointment as quickly as possible and will not address your concerns unless you continually ask him questions and guide him through the appointment. After the 10-minute appointment, his assistants will send you a pamphlet of paperwork covering topics that were not discussed in the appointment (ex. "Patient was informed of..."). I have also noticed a quick turnover of employees during my time with this practice. I will not be returning. read more

I had a hydrafacial appointment scheduled for 10/4, but when I arrived, there was a note on the door stating that the office was closed with no reopening date. No one contacted me to inform me that my appointment was canceled. I also attempted to email the MA address I had previously corresponded with, but I received a 'delivery failure' notification. Additionally, the doctor didn't show up for my initial virtual appointment, so I had to reschedule for a time that worked for him in the middle of the day to avoid a cancellation fee. My virtual appointment, for which I paid $60 and which lasted roughly 5 minutes, took place in early September. Since then, the office has canceled and rescheduled my hydrafacial appointment multiple times. To show up for my confirmed appointment, only to find the office closed, was a complete shock. On 9/20/24, i prepaid in advance $2787.75 to M D Aesthetics and Dermatology LLC ($2,700 for 6 separate prepaid sessions for acne scarring using fraxel face technology for my cheeks and then $87.75 was 3.75% online payment charge). I had to prepay all the money in advance prior to my first session. Before my first appointment, i called the dermatology office with a question but it had an automatic voicemail setup that says "dr gabriel martinez diaz has a health issue that has required him to temporarily close his office. He will open the office again upon the resolution of this issue". He didnt notify me that this was happening. If i knew that he was going to close his office, i never would have agreed to 6 sessions and prepaid them. I never cancelled the appointment, they just closed the office unexpectedly and has been closed at least 3 months now. On the receipt i received in an email after paying, it says "return policy: non-refundable". I tried contacting the doctor on his business instagram page but he wont respond and i know he saw it since he is always posting stories. I no longer trust him after he took my money and did not provide the services. read more

Finding a good dermatologist is hard. And I tried three other dermatology practices in the city before finding Dr. Martinez-Diaz nearly two and a half years ago. But now my skin has never looked better in my life! Dr. Martinez-Diaz is efficient and to-the-point, which I really appreciate as someone who also works in healthcare. And it's never been a problem to be seen within a couple of days for something urgent. From taking me through my third round of Accutane to bi-weekly hydrafacials and all kinds of random skin problems in between, I am so thankful to have found Dr. Martinez-Diaz and the MD Aesthetics team as a part of my health care team. Dr. Martinez Diaz is honest and thorough. Not to mention, this is the only dermatologist that has been able to help me with treatments that actual work and get them covered under my health insurance! I've been a patient here for about a year or two (minus 2020 of course). I recently started seeing Deborah for facials and she's great. I've been struggling with acne for as long as I can remember and these facials actually work! I get a combination of hydro facials and chemical peels. Deborah is very personable and friendly and makes sure that whatever treatment I'm getting is helpful and not too uncomfortable. Horrible service - they have this inflexible cancellation policy. I tried calling to cancel my appointment and couldn't reach them. They charge $150 dollars fee. Update - after I called to pay their $150 fee I got an email from Square saying that my credit card was "saved on file and authorized to be used for future transactions". Unusual office policies. Appointment couldn't have been more than 4 minutes. Tries to push you into buying medicine from their "special" company. Continued to prescribed ineffective acne medicine. After looking at Open Payment Data which shows what doctors, dentists, etc are getting paid by pharmaceutical companies, I saw that he gets paid $20k+ a year by the manufacturer of the ineffective medicine. Switched to another dermatologist and she had no idea why I would've been prescribed that medicine. read more

I called on October 24 and the insurance verification system was down. I was asked to call back (1st sign customer services was not going to be great). I called back on October 25th and the system was still down. I was sent a link to enroll into their SADIO system on October 26th. I enrolled. I saw that I had an appointment scheduled for Friday October 28th at 8:30 am. AMAZING! I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with Hector (super friendly although powerless) and then Ezriel C (office manager) who did not like that I had photo proof of my appointment being scheduled and dismissed me as a potential patient. I never raised my voice. I used logic. I would avoid this place unless you don't mind bowing down to little people with power in the bureaucracy. Ezriel I only wish you the best in this world. I have never been here before. I had an appointment scheduled and I unfortunately fell sick over the weekend before the appointment. I rescheduled it first thing EARLY in the morning. They then cancelled my rescheduled appointment and send me $150 dollar cancellation fee. Are you kidding me?! I have never even stepped foot in your office, I reschedule my appointment because I was sick and you cancelled it on me and then try and charge me?! HORRIBLE BUSINESS. Dr. Martinez is actually knowledgeable. However, I seem to always have issues with his staff. Every time I go for a treatment I get different information. They have messed up my appointment no less than 3 times, causing me to reschedule. Once while getting a facial my skin started to burn (I've gotten the same exact treatment previously without this reaction) and when I asked the assistant why this was happening and if she thought it was strange I didn't feel uncomfortable last time she just kept giggling and saying "yeah"?? Very strange. Anyway, won't be back. I would suggest getting all staff members including assistants and receptionists on the same page. *UPDATE*: After posting my review I read several others - I noticed others too had the same issue with outrageous insurance claims. My husband actually brought it up to me after my last appointment but I assumed it was an error and didn't think too much of it. I called the office to ask about this - and Dr. Martinez got VERY upset and defensive. He was also clearly angry that I wrote an honest review about my experience and condescendingly asked "if you got into a fight with your boyfriend would you post about it online!?!?" ... what?? I spoke to the reception coordinator, Ruben about a no show fee. My brother is the patient and his wallet was stolen and told the reception on a phone call before arriving, they confirm they accept Apple Pay. So he went MADE IT TO THE APPOINTMENT and they gave him paperwork to start. He was INSIDE of their office filling out paper work.. and then stopped him to say he cannot use Apple pay. He called in advance to make sure, but now they gave different information. When we called about the 'no show, invoice', they had all the information about his wallet being stolen but nothing about giving misinformation and wasting everyone's time. We couldn't even have a conversation with the reception. They did not care about the situation nor will look at the schedule to see if their might have been a trainee that gave misinformation. They were not helpful and made things worse by giving attitude and wouldn't let us speak with anyone else. Ruben used the words "if you don't pay, you can let it go to collections". He was condescending, appallingly rude, and had the audacity to mention this going to collections. NEVER in my life have I ever encountered customer service like this, no one has even followed up. read more

My daughter has been seeing Dr. Martinez-Diaz for a few years now. Although we like Dr. Martinez-Diaz, and feel that my daughter is getting good care, I do not understand the purpose of keeping my credit card at the front desk for the duration of the appointment. No other place requiring credit card payment engages in this practice. When questioned, staff replies that they need to "scan it into the chart". For what? Okay, so that takes 20-30 minutes while I'm separated from my card during the appointment? Or, if you don't leave your card with the front desk staff the doctor won't see you and they will of course charge you the ever popular $150 cancellation fee. read more

I made a same-day appointment over the phone and had to cancel a half an hour later. I was the informed that I would incur a $150 cancellation fee, even though I cancelled within 30 minutes the same day for a same day appointment and--more importantly--there wasn't a single mention of the fee during my initial phone call when I made the appointment. I would have NEVER made the appointment had I known of this fee. It's as if, without warning me, I was beholden to the fee as soon as I made the appointment. In the last two months, I have spoken to the man who made my appointment several times and he has gotten in increasingly snarky and patronizing toward me. I requested he listen to a tape of our conversation since I am 100% certain he never mentioned the fee. Alas, there's absolutely no proof of the details of our conversation other than notes he claims he took right after, which I find comical. There are no recordings, nothing signed, no credit card given to prove that I had any knowledge of the fee upon making the appointment. Soon the bill will be sent to collections. Due to the fact that I am stuck in a he said/she said situation and the doctor REFUSES to speak with me despite my efforts to get him on the phone, I don't know what else to do other than seek legal action. The doctor clearly holds no one accountable in his office, including himself. No one even considers the possibility that the patient might be right in this scenario. Mistakes happen, but I should not have to pay for it. It would be one thing if i was made aware of the fee during the initial phone call, but since I was not, it is absolutely unethical--I would argue consumer fraud-- to enforce this fee. Without any proof whatsoever, they still expect me to pay $150. After numerous attempts to resolve this matter with the man who made my appointment (the only person I can get on the phone), I have gotten nowhere. And there's no one else to talk to who can help me, even the ppl in billing who are all very nice but admittedly helpless. This has become extremely frustrating and disheartening. It has been two months and this issue is still not resolved. What is happening to me (and others) says a lot about them as a business that they're willing to treat people this way. Awful. I booked an appointment and shortly after knew that i couldn't be there due to a personal conflict. I wanted to reschedule instead of being charged a cancellation fee of $150 (even though i booked within 24 hours so it was impossible to cancel within their policy). Instead of being accommodating and willing to reschedule (and make more money than the cancellation fee), they decided to not be flexible. Now they have sent me several notices in the mail to pay the cancellation fee. When making an appointment with Dr Martinez-Diaz, it's pretty clear what the cancellation policy is. Their time is just as valuable as ours is as the patient. I don't see that as a reason to write such negative reviews. Just be aware of it and stick to your apt time? Anyways- Dr Martinez-Diaz has cleared up my hormonal acne & my skin is now soft and smooth. Love the Dr and staff. This was by far the worst dermatologist experience I have ever had. As most know, dermatologist appointments are not easy to come by so I made mine three weeks ago when I was having an eczema flair up. So when it comes time for my appointment, my eczema was much less severe and almost cleared up, but I still wanted to see the doctor, because it can and will happen again. He told me he could only treat what was "active", I asked if i could show him pictures and he said he doesn't and WILL NOT look at them. So he gave me a prescription cream (without seeing my eczema or pictures) and told me to go through a special pharmacy. I don't mind doing that and have before, but then when I looked at the invoice I was charged over $400 for being a "level 4" patient. I was never told what that meant and I feel like I was taken advantage of, for sure. read more

In July, I had to cancel an appointment at midnight the night before because I had a serious medical issue that required a visit to urgent care. I needed to be in bed after the clinic visit and could not make my morning appointment. I left a voicemail and emailed the office saying as much. I rescheduled for August, when I knew I would be over the illness and could go. The next morning, I got a text, email, and call about the missed visit and was blown up about a $150 cancellation fee. My rescheduled appointment was cancelled. (ZocDoc sent an apology email.) I understand a no call, no show situation or if I had been terribly late, but I had a valid reason for not being able to come and obviously did not plan to be sick enough to visit urgent care the night before. I rescheduled, and intended to try to MD for long-term care. I have since gotten *weekly* emails and several texts about this excessive fee, which I will not be paying. Very disappointed that the doctor cheated my 4-year-old daughter and 9 month-old son out of an appointment. I made an emergency-same day appointment on ZOC DOC. No in-person visits during the time of the Pandemic. Prior to the appointment, the receptionist called. I had a question about payment options. The receptionist told us that he'd get the answers and call us right back with the ZOOM meeting info. He never called back, but we were charged a cancellation fee. Dr. Martinez Diaz is the absolute best. First of all, I was so surprised by how easy it was to set up an appointment at his office. I called a few dermatologists closer to where I live, but they couldn't see me for months. When I called his office they were able to see me later that week. Once I got there, the staff was really friendly! The medical assistant who brought me back was very kind and made me feel comfortable talking about acne struggles. As for my time with Dr. Martinez Diaz- all i can say is wow! He truly took the time to talk to me and listen to all my concerns. With previous doctors, they come in for 2 minutes and let the PA do everything else. Dr. Martinez Diaz sat with me, made sure he answered every one of my questions, & asked for my thoughts on his treatment plan so that I tweak it to best fit me (wanting to treat my acne more aggressively). He even told me he would fit me in the schedule the same day to do an acne injection if I had a wedding or other event coming up!! Which was absolutely crazy to me, because other doctors can't even see me for months or weeks, yet here he is offering to help me within a couple of hours notice. This kind of treatment shows how much he cares about his patients. As for the actual treatment plan he and I came up with- It's been two months I am beyond happy with my results. My break outs are now tamed to like one pimple every month. I had to have him inject a couple of pimples during the normal "purging" (what he calls it lol) period. The pimples he injected went away in like a day which was amazing. I haven't gotten one big enough to need an injection in about a month, and I'm so excited to not have to worry about covering up my pimples with make up and feeling confident make-up less out with friends! I usually dont post long reviews like this, but Dr. Martinez Diaz completely went above and beyond my expectations and I would recommend him to anyone needing dermatology help. read more

MD Aesthetics and Dermatology was highly recommended to me by a friend so I decided to give it a try while I was visiting Chicago. I cannot say enough good things. Efficient, friendly, the best doctor, and a fairly new aesthetic center in the West Loop area with the latest in procedures and products to keep us looking young forever. They make things better and spend time explaining what's wrong and how to fix it. It was fun to meet Dr. Martinez and he knows just what to recommend. After reading such great reviews about Dr. Diaz, I decided to book an appointment 5 months ago in regards my acne. On the first appointment Dr. Diaz was very curt and brief. Every visit since then was the same and my interaction with him was very short a few minutes max. I felt dismissed. The medical assistants on the other were very polite and understanding. I have been going to Dr. Martinez-Diaz's office for a few months now and let me tell you - wow! He is punctual, attentive, and makes sure that all my needs are met at every visit. I have seen him for both medical and cosmetic visits and he is skilled in both the science and art of dermatologic and aesthetic medicine. His staff is friendly and he usually has openings within a few days, which I appreciate with my hectic work schedule. I am disappointed, however, to see some negative reviews on this site based on his cancellation policy. He has a very reasonable 24 hour cancellation policy (as all of my doctors do), and it seems reasonable to me that patients who no-show or cancel at the last minute should incur that cancellation fee. This is a doctor's appointment, not a restaurant reservation! I appreciate that he expects mutual respect within the doctor-patient relationship and his practice exemplifies those ideals. I found M.D. aesthetics and dermatology with a quick Google search. I wasn't sure what to expect although the reviews were very good. The office was very clean and put together and the staff extremely nice. I went to see Dr. Martinez Diaz for my finger. It turns out I had eczema and he prescribed some meds. I've had eczema for over a year but with the prescription recommended by Dr. Martines Diaz it went away right before my wedding in Spain. I even had additional questions which he answered while on his own vacation! Now that's going above and beyond. I can't say enough how grateful I am and will definitely be back. read more
