The actual care is good. The problem is the policies. First, there is a COMPLETE INABILITY to reach the office. They do not answer the phone, or respond to voicemails, emails, or texts. In my first experience with this, they prescribed the wrong antibiotics for my son on a Friday. Not a huge deal if they would respond to urgent messages, but they don't, so I had to drive back to the office after 6 hours, or risk my son going the weekend without antibiotics. They also permit "same day" and next day appointments, but make no effort to actually book them so you'll be left in the balance wondering if you have an appointment or not. As far as I can tell, they simply do not prioritize communication, which is unfortunate given that good medical care is built on good communication. I looked past all of that because of convenience, but today my 16 year old went today for a follow-up appointment and they demanded payment for an appointment she had 3 weeks ago before they would see her. I haven't received a bill or an EOB so over the phone I asked that they see her and send her home with an invoice. Again, this is not an overdue balance - the insurance claim probably just settled from a visit 21 days ago. I think it's pretty reasonable to ask to see what I'm being asked to pay, what insurance paid, etc. They refused to see her, so she once again wasted her time. My family is taking our business elsewhere. read more

It's fully my mistake, but I ignored the reviews on Yelp about hidden fees and administrative hiccups and proceeded forward because of the glowing Google reviews. I booked an appointment here because I needed help with a cosmetic issue and was able to snag an appointment by submitting a form and emailing with their scheduler. The check in was smooth and the nurse helping me took notes about my issues (after telling me that I was limited to 3) and the proceeded to say (after chatting with the doctor) that I didn't book a cosmetic appointment and they would need $250 now and a portion of that would be used toward a procedure. The doctor didn't even come in to tell me this, she instructed the intake nurse to do that. What frustrated me is that I specifically spelled out what I needed in the intake form, their scheduler incorrectly categorized my appointment, then I was told that I booked the wrong thing when I couldn't even book anything on my end in the first place. There was no offer of a consult (due to their oversight), and no conversation offered with the doctor, it was just pay $250 right now or leave. The lack of transparency was disheartening and the pressure to make an on the spot decision about something so serious (without chatting with the doctor) was unprofessional. I easily would have paid the fee had they apologized for their oversight but the attitude was so "take it or leave it" that I had lost trust. Awful registration process. So bad, I gave up and canceled my appointment. A friend recommended the providers here. I attempted to make an appointment using the online system. After painstakingly completing numerous fields, many of which were inexplicably redundant or poorly formatted, the form would return an "error submitting form" message. I reviewed the form repeatedly and tried tweaking things, but over and over again I got the same error message. I attempted this multiple times on both a phone and a laptop. Imagine my surprise when there were two emails in my inbox reflecting appointment requests. I figured the office would call me to sort it out when they opened again. Instead, I got a text message a few days later imploring me to fill out the online form within 24 hours or lose my appointment slot. The message was confusing and made it sound like they would apply their $300 missed appointment fee (!!!) if the form isn't filled out on time. So I clicked through and gave it another shot, again completing numerous redundant fields and attaching images, only for that same error message to pop up. This was during office hours, so I called, and the recording tried to redirect me to the dysfunctional online appointment system. I called to make an appointment asking if they treat children. They said they did. When I got there they told me they don't treat children and sent us away. It was a complete waste of time. What I have the biggest problem with is that they then proceeded to charge me $240 for that! I've explained it to them several times and they have said that they are charging me anyway. I've been coming to Kaminska Dermatology for few years for various consultations. Doctor Kaminska is super knowledgeable, friendly and easy to work with. The office is nice, bright, modern and clean. A nice space to come back to. The parking is easy on Lincoln street. They just implemented rewards application so that's a nice touch for repeat customers. They offer both medial help as well as esthetician services. The only downside is that you have to book far in advance as they are very busy but if you plan accordingly it's very manageable. It just means they are liked and have lots of repeat customers. read more

TLDR - Dr. Kaminska had me fully undress in front of her causing uncomfort and embarrassment. Last spring, I was on the hunt for a new dermatologist. I read MANY reviews before I scheduled with Dr. Kaminska. I scheduled an appointment via email with Dr. Kaminska's team in May of 2024 for an August 2024 appointment. In the time between my appointment booking and the appointment, I went thru with a breast reduction. When my appointment came up with Dr. Kaminska, I figured it was perfect timing to also address scar management etc. I checked in to my appointment and was led to a room with 3 plastic chairs and a "rolling" doctor stool, that's it, nothing else in the large room. The nurse that took me to the room asked if I had major concerns. I said, I haven't seen a dermatologist in at least 10 years so I wanted to establish patient care. I also mentioned that UNRELATED to the appointment, I had recently had a breast reduction. She told me the Doctor. would be in shortly. I was never asked to undress, to put on a surgical gown, etc, nothing. Dr. Kaminska came in with 2 additional med students. Asked for my consent for them to be in the room. I obliged. She asked what my concerns were, I restated that I had not seen a dermatologist in over 10 years and UNRELATED to my appointment, I had recently had a breast reduction and would like to discuss scar management. She then said, well let's see your breasts. I said right now? I WAS SHOCKED. So there I was taking my dress, slip, and bra off in front of the doctor and the students. I have seen many many doctors (gynecologist, plastic surgeon, cardiologist, pelvic floor therapist- all in the last year), never in my life have I undressed in front of one. So she examines my breasts, gives me some feedback, and that was the END of the appointment. No skin check, no mapping of moles. NOTHING. As I am leaving, still in shock, I stop by the front desk to ask the receptionist what kind of appointment I booked because as I mentioned, I booked it online and maybe the receptionist booked the wrong appointment. She said a skin check. I asked her what happens in a skin check? She looked confused and asked if the doctor looked over my body. I said no. She did mention that sometimes people book skin checks even though they have a specific skin concern. With some back and forth it was determined that the Doctor was gone and I needed to leave for another appointment. I asked if we could reschedule the appointment and if my co-pay could be used towards that appointment. I was told NO, because it was already billed. I asked what my insurance was being billed for, she said a skin check. I DID NOT RECEIVE THOSE SERVICES, so why am I being billed for such? I asked to speak to a manager. I was told she would call me. About an hour later, I received a call from the manager. I gave her the above story and she understood my concerns and said she would call me to confirm we could move the payment to the future appointment. A few things I will take responsibility for in this situation. 1. Not speaking up for myself when I was asked to undress in front of Dr. Kaminska and the students. 2. Not asking why my appointment was over before it began? 3. Noticing it was a red flag that I was in a room that didn't have an exam bed, linens, etc. A few things Dr. Kaminska should take responsibility for in this situation. 1. When a patient you have never seen before mentions she hasn't been to a dermatologist in 10 years, I'd expect her to want to look over my skin for any issues etc. 2. NOT ask a patient to take their clothes off in front of them. I will say I was willing to go back and see the doctor because she was thorough in my breast examination and gave good recommendations. And in the moment, I just wasn't thinking about how violating it was for her to ask me to undress in front of her. As mentioned, I just had a breast reduction, had multiple appointments prior to the surgery, actual surgery, and follow up appointments, and was never once asked to undress in front of the nurses and doctors. They ALWAYS stepped out of the room and let me change. I never did hear back from the manager, so I canceled my future appointment and honestly, probably would have no matter what. Because no one should be made to feel the way I did while in her office. read more

Dr. Kaminska is the absolute best! I started with her 2 yrs ago very discouraged, embarrassed and doubtful about my hair loss. Not only did she make me feel comfortable, she encouraged me to trust the process. She stated her treatment plan would be aggressive, she told me she couldn't make a guarantee my hair would come back but she would do everything she knew how to to restore my hair. I was doubtful but I followed EVERYTHING she told me to do. I am here to say she is the absolute best! I HAVE HAIR!!! I could not believe it until she showed me pictures from when I started to now. She also treated my adult acne, my skin has never been as clear and vibrant as it is now. If you need a dermatologist to help with hair loss or acne I can't type Dr. Kaminska's name fast enough as my recommendation. Her staff was just so kind all around. I came in for a small skin problem and was very quickly diagnosed. TL/DR: SHADY PRACTICE! HIPAA VIOLATIONS! LONG WAIT TIMES. UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF. POOR SUPPORT. BULLYING. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Hearing racial slurs blasted over waiting room speakers is not what one expects when visiting a doctor's office. At Kaminska Dermatology, vulgar music is often played over waiting room speakers (song lyrics have included sexual innuendo, n-word, etc.). Very unprofessional and offensive! The office staff NEVER answers the phone and callbacks take at least 1 business day and are usually returned by offshore virtual assistants who are ill-equipped to address patient concerns. Dr. Kaminska routinely runs behind schedule (expect wait times of greater than 30-45min past the scheduled appointment time). FYI: staff don't wear face masks nor is mask-wearing enforced for patients. Seems a bit irresponsible with rising COVID/Influenza/RSV numbers. Office/administrative staff is comprised of ill-informed, unprofessional and lowly educated staff who lack knowledge of basic industry standards regarding patient privacy and professional conduct. In fact, for months, the office did not have a proper patient-facing privacy policy. Dr. Edidiong Kaminska herself was unfamiliar with key aspects of HIPAA that apply to physician offices. The practice seems to be in some sort of "kickback" arrangement with smaller local pharmacies. Dr. Edidiong Kaminska repeatedly and aggressively pushes to have prescriptions sent to her preferred pharmacy vendor because "it's cheaper for "insurance purposes" - complete lies! I've repeatedly informed the physician and the staff that my scripts should only be sent to the designated CVS or to the mail-order pharmacy that's in-network with my insurance. Furthermore, I explained that my out-of-pocket maximum for my insurance is already met, so there is no benefit/savings in having scripts sent to this "specialty pharmacy" that she was pushing. Their Privacy Policy explicitly states "We will call the pharmacy of your choice regarding your prescription." Yet, the practice sent my prescription (along with other protected health information) to THEIR own pharmacy vendor without my knowledge or consent - a clear HIPAA VIOLATION and violation of their own stated policy. This "specialty pharmacy" then botched fulfillment of said prescription and committed further HIPAA violations with its unauthorized disclosure of my protected health information to other entities. When I attempted to obtain support concerning the prescription, the practice staff Fabiola stated she would call in 15min; 3 days later, I still hadn't heard from her. E-mails and phone messages have gone unaddressed. The registered agent and manager for the business is Jan P. Kaminski, Dr. Kaminska's husband, so there's no real accountability for staff misconduct. Legitimate complaints get ignored. Go figure. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Like any dermatologist, this place is expensive and insurance is a hassle. What made me feel frustrated with this particular practice is that the Doctor/Medical Assistant made it a point to walk through the cost with me so "there wouldn't be any surprises with insurance". She had me sign paperwork before treating me with a cost estimate, and repeatedly said she didn't want there to be any surprises. After my appointment, I paid what I owed and was told to book a second appointment in a month for a follow up treatment. I received zero communications from this dermatologist after that. Then when I showed up for the second follow up appointment, I was told I had a balance of $200 and that I couldn't be seen without paying it. Insurance is always a headache, but this experience felt slimy. The staff and doctors are great! But beware, they will put on a parade of not wanting to surprise you with costs, but will surprise you with costs anyways and not communicate it with you until you're at your follow up appointment and your options are to either give them the money or not be seen. read more

It's what you would expect from a doctor's office. You have an appointment time but while you as the patient are expected to adhere to arriving on time , the same cannot be said for them. I had an "appointment" but the doctor did not even come in until 45 minutes later. Dr. Kaminska seemed very rushed and while she was not impolite, you could tell she was trying to get you out the door. Unbelievable after having to wait for her for 45 minutes. I do not think she even apologized for the delay. Although she does seem to be very knowledgeable and I felt her to be very well versed in her field, I disliked the unprofessionalism in a rushed consult after waiting so long to see her. This brings me to my other point, I think the wait times to schedule something are like 2 months out, I am not sure if she offers limited slots but trying to get in for follow ups looks like a nightmare. read more

I can't say enough good things about this clinic. I booked my first appointment in January for the 3rd week of March. Dr. Kaminska was in my insurance network, and referred by my physician. Upon entering the clinic, I was warmly greeted by the front desk. I gave my name, insurance, ID, and FSA card. For those of you seeing a specialist for the first time, most services are out of pocket, and co-pays can be higher than the usual $50. That's why loading up your FSA is vital. Dr. Kaminska walked in, and greeted me with such charm, and positivity. So refreshing. We discussed my 2 issues, with one being treated in office that day, and the other, a cyst, needing a 2nd appointment next month. A side note: when filling out your new patient form. You will be asked to provide a credit card. If you don't show up, it gets charged. Don't be upset. How many people don't show up at restaurants? They expect that business. Also, somebody else could have had that appointment. Don't overthink it. This clinic is a first class experience. read more

My primary doctor gave me a referral for Dr Kaminska. I called the office and was told to email a copy of my insurance card. The person I spoke to apparently didn't know what insurances they accept. I reluctantly emailed the copies. I wondered why they needed the copies and couldn't answer a simple question. I hope they don't charge my insurance for a visit I never had. I waited all day and no response about the insurance acceptance. I called but no one answered. Finally gave up and emailed the office to disregard my inquiry. It seemed very sketchy that I had to go to all that trouble and no answer or reply from the office. I proceeded to ask my doctor for a new referral. I only came here once because I ended up moving, but was not pleased with my experience. First, they demanded to store my CC # on file with them (I have my CC info stolen an average of twice a year and absolutely did NOT want to do this). The front desk wouldn't let me see the doctor unless I did this (I should have left right then, but I reluctantly capitulated). Second, Dr. Kaminska greeted me with the wrong name. It should be said though that her bedside manner was otherwise very maternal and caring; these traits are exceptionally rare in this industry and I suspect a lot of people will love this about her. She prescribed me what I asked for, but when I had to move out of state a few months later, she refused to transfer the prescription out of state (despite having a full year left of prescription refills). I guess she did this because her prescriptions are only allowed to be filled by one company (a local IL online pharmacy)? In the end it didn't matter because she prescribed me Retin-A micro (rather than the OG cream I wanted) which is chock-full of silicones, pore-clogging, and exorbitantly priced. It wasn't until I got my hands on $5 Mexican tret that my skin finally cleared. Oh and remember my CC # on file? I received a letter from their office a few months ago that my CC was compromised (and indeed, my bank statement confirmed, had been stolen). So...thanks for nothing. read more

The 3-star rating is simply a reflection of this office refusing to accept CountyCare and other state-issued insurances. I've been a patient for over a year for alopecia treatment and this place is close to my home and I was familiar and comfortable with the staff and the care I received. But now, because my medical insurance has switched to county insurance, I can no longer afford to continue my same care at the place I know and trust. My dermatologist moved to this office. I have made more than 5 appointments only to have every one of them cancelled by the business for a variety of reasons. The last two were cancelled because of flooding despite being weeks apart. I had a very positive experience at Kaminska with Dr.Adams. I go just for skin cancer screening, and had found other practices to push cosmetic procedures. This was not the case at Kaminska at all, Dr.Adams was very kind, thorough and personable. I will absolutely be going back for a screenings from now on. read more
