We had a perfectly pleasant dinner here on Sunday. Our reason for coming was to hear live jazz, which had been mentioned on Hot Jazz Saturday Night. I made a reservation for 4 at 5 PM through Resy -- for some reason it did not display any reservations for groups larger than 4 -- then called to up it to 5, which the restauranteur was perfectly happy to do. THEN we found out that the music is on the pub side of the business, you can't necessarily hear the jazz from the restautant, that the pub does not take reservations, and that the jazz is popular enough that the pub is often full. So, we went at 4, and on arrival told the maitre d'; that we were in the pub rather than the restaurant. And he was cool with that. The pub was half full when we arrived but by the time the musicians started, it was full, standing room only, We ordered drinks, very modest beer list, and eventually food. I had a shepherd's pie, which was fine. Others were happy with their dishes. The music was OK, really nothing to write home about. Fairly low volume, a drummer, stand-up bass, and electronic keyboard. Audience was enthusiastic, applauding the fairly brief solos. Certainly too soft to be heard in the restaurant. The Irish Inn has old time charm. It probably has not changed since the 1960s, and people like it that way. There are three dining areas: the formal dining room, the covered patio, and the pub. Personally I find the dining room a little stodgy and gravitate to the patio for lunch in fine weather and the pub any other time. The food is solid. Stick with the Guinness burger or fish and chips, and you'll be fine. And oh yes: there's free jazz in the pub on Sunday afternoons. The soft kind. Arrive early coz the tables fill fast. Came here for the first time yesterday. Cute restaurant and pub right near Glen Echo Park. Parking is a little wonky, but manageable. My aunt and I were seated in the pub area. I arrived a few minutes later. The server came over, did not introduce himself and seemed annoyed when we said we weren't ready. I was never asked if I wanted anything to drink other than water. We both ordered the Irish burger with a side salad. The burger was DELICIOUS! The 3 stars is for the service. The Irish inn at Glen Echo has very quickly become one of my favorite places to go, and this last visit really sealed the deal for me. From the moment we sat down, everything just felt welcoming and relaxed. Our server Damien absolutely made the night. I don't usually say I have a "favorite" server anywhere, but now I definitely do. He's just one of those people who makes you feel like he genuinely cares that you're having a good time. He gave us spot-on suggestions, checked in just enough without being overbearing, and was so friendly and easy to talk to. It makes such a difference when the service is that good, and it's a big part of why we'll keep coming back. The food was outstanding. We started with the potato leek soup, which was rich, creamy, and perfectly seasoned--honestly one of the best I've had. We also shared the deviled eggs, and they were such a fun and tasty appetizer. Both dishes were great for sharing, and they came out quickly, still fresh and flavorful. I love when appetizers don't feel like an afterthought, and these definitely didn't. The atmosphere is another reason this place is so special. The night we went, there was live music playing outside, which really added to the whole experience. It wasn't too loud, just the right amount of energy and fun. We sat inside this time, but now that the weather is finally getting nicer, we can't wait to try sitting outside. It looks like the perfect setup for a laid-back night with good food, good music, and just a great vibe all around. Between the delicious food, the amazing service from Damien, and the cozy but lively atmosphere, The Irishman really hits all the marks for a great night out. It feels like the kind of place where you can just as easily come for a casual dinner with friends as you could for a special occasion, and that's rare. i have gone to the restaurant for 30 years. I'll never go again. we went for St Patty's day. Had to pay $5 for mandatory valet parking, then were informed there was a $10 cover charge per person. No mention of this when we made the reservation by the way. We were seated in a tiny room unable to hear any of the music we paid the cover charge for. Our waiter Curt had sarcasm oozing out of his pores. Served us 1/4 cup of vodka for $15. The bangers and mash were inedible. The service was so rushed, we had people trying to clear our table before we were finished eating. We tipped accordingly. Never again. Great old school Irish inn. It does not have TVs or so many like a pub so feels like going back in the day. Went with two friends driving in from Virginia so it was a good midpoint to us in Silver Spring and we loved the service and food. Ambience and proper pints of Guinness are the headliners at this authentic Irish pub in Glen Echo!! Stopped in last week for lunch with a buddy and had a great time. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his two pints of Guinness Stout and his shepherds pie. However, he did feel that the meat/mashed potato balance could've been tilted a bit more in favor of the meat. My corned beef and cabbage was quite tasty. The portion was a bit on the small side. Not a big deal, but next time I'll be sure to start off with a salad and maybe an appetizer as well. The decor was full-on Irish pub with lots of wood paneling and signs with proverbs throughout the bar area. The wait staff was extremely friendly and welcoming which made for a great experience. Great dinner after a gallery show at Glen Echo. Shared crab dip (5 stars!) while waiting for our final friend. Beer selection was good but they were out of a few things which was disappointing. Two members of our table got the corned beef which was a generous portion and super tender. The short ribs stewed in Guinness was my selection. It came with green beans and grits. I like my grits looser, but otherwise, I would not have changed a thing. Excellent meal. Finished up with the Guinness bread pudding (shared) and a baileys coffee. Had a bad experience happen here. Food was fine. But the owner did something that was absolutely not appropriate and he should have known not to do it. I am not going to get into details, but please ASK before doing something someone might not (and in this case did not) want to happen. I would like to think his intentions were good. Great food and homey atmosphere. The only things that are holding back a higher score for me was the strange interaction that we had at the hostess stand and the hot and humid temperature of the bar. My son and his girlfriend met me at Glen Echo to walk around. We decided that we were hungry and The Irish Inn is conveniently located in walking distance from the park. When we walked in, the woman at the hostess stand ignored us for an uncomfortable amount of time then... just looked at me. I finally asked if we could just grab a seat in the bar and she said "if you can find a spot." Fine. We went and sat down. The bartender was cool and jovial, so I just let it go. The bar area is very homey and a fun pub atmosphere. They've got some great beers on tap as well as the standard fare that you'd expect at an Irish pub. If the place wasn't so warm and muggy, it would have been great. Our food was fantastic. Very flavorful and nicely presented. I got the Shepherds Pie, which should be made with mined lamb; this was made with minced beef so it's actually a Cottage Pie. I knew that going in so I was happy with it. The flavor and preparation were amazing. And even the salad that came with it was above expectation. The Irish Inn is a very good spot. The attitude when walking in greatly affected my experience. This local community Pub is like eating/hanging in your home. Everyone knows each other and the bar/dining seating is nice and cozy. David is an excellent bartender and is extra attentive to all your needs. He makes the best Margarita and the all the food is simple and hearty. I had a Reuben with Fries. The bread was toasted just right with Coleslaw, Corned Beef, Swiss. The Wholegrain Mustard with Irish Whiskey is a must to add into your Sandwich. If you are coming through the Glen Echo Neighborhood and need a place to stop and eat, don't miss coming here. Great stop! Bathrooms clean, no old carpet odors inside, and no air freshener smells masking a problem. That goes a long way for me! Decor was cozy and felt fairly authentic. Pub area is fun, though we were in the dining room. We were excited for Irish fare, but they also have an interesting mix of dishes from other cuisines. A great treat was the little soda bread bites with whipped butter. Yum! Our meals were delicious, tasted fresh and were large portions. Staff was friendly and attentive and gave us plenty of time to relax and enjoy our meal. I think we'll be stopping back next time we are visiting Great Falls or Glen Echo. read more

Amazing! After a freezing, dripping wet day at Glen Echo Park, a hot Irish meal is just what I need. My party of 8 was directed to a private room with a little electric fireplace. The server was attentive and friendly with a hint of Irish sarcasm. Good variety on the menu along with some usual Irish fare. Shepherd's pie, fish and chips were great. The mussels appetizer was huge, and the white wine sauce was delicious enough to ask for more bread to mop up the juice. Delicious, filling, great atmosphere. We'll be back! read more

For lunch I had the Reuben with mixed greens. Absolutely delicious. I tried 1/2 with the Bold Irish mustard provided the other plain. Preferred the plain. My guest had the fish tacos which she also enjoyed. Our waiter Kurt was friendly,attentive and prompt. Most of the tables in dining room were full however we did have reservations and were seated on time. The room was a little chilly but there was plenty of outdoor seating. Cozy, tucked away in the parking lot near the Glenn Echo Park. I decided to stop in and have a drink. It was a nice autumn night and it begged for a toddy. I walked past the picnic benches and festive party bulbs into the pub side and it has the nice dark wood surrounding the bar. It was smaller than I expected, but there were about 10 seats at the bar, a good half a dozen high tops to sit at. I ordered a Bailey's coffee and it was okay. I enjoyed the 80's music and just chilled. The staff was nice, I don't think I'll pay $12 for coffee and Bailey's again, but I would definitely go back to try the food since I arrived after the kitchen closed ( but got to watch the staff chow down on some food behind the bar). read more

The Irish Inn has been a standout in the area for decades. In recent years, the live music and step dancing on Monday nights has drawn a regular crowd because the entertainment is the best in the area. Located next to historic Glen Echo park, The Irish Inn is a classic Irish bar with a separate room for quieter dining and an outdoor seating area born from the social-distancing of 2020+. It can get wild with the music! I have seen and listened to no less than some 10 fiddlers playing music, the youngest being perhaps 8 years old and the older ones accomplished musicians. This is a great group of rotating musicians that clearly love the venue as much as any guest will. Not only music on Monday nights, but every day the food is really very good and reasonable in price. The service is very good and professional ("your usual?") The salads are exactly what you expect, the burgers are very good and my favorite --fish and chips-- is always perfect! There are a number of alternative dishes, each is tasty and well done. Irish beer & local craft beer on tap. A selection of whiskeys and spirits that befit an Irish bar. Got there early because it was super important to have comfortable seating near the live music, and I really wanted my family to get the full experience. We got super lucky, in being seated right next to the band. I guess I had high expectations for this historic place coupled with the fact that it was Friday night and I was looking forward to spending a nice evening trying a new-to-me restaurant. We were glad to be seated outside on this lovely spring evening but it took some time for anyone to even offer us water. When we looked around at the other tables, we were disappointed to see that water came in plastic disposable cups but other drinks came in glasses. We asked for the water in glasses and our server seemed extremely confused. I guess people don't think about disposable plastics in landfill much these days? It just doesn't make sense to me to have real plates and utensils but have plastic cups. We ordered the seafood stew and fish and chips. My stew came with two pieces of garlic bread. Upon first sip of the stew, I thought it was a tad too salty. I definitely needed to slurp it with something bland like the pile of mash in the center of the bowl and take many bites of the bread. I finished one glass of water before dinner was over and needed another glass because of the saltiness. Unfortunately, our server never came back, not even once, to check on us. There were shrimp, scallops, three mussels, and a couple of clams in the stew. The broth was tasty if not for the extra salt. The scallops were dry so a little disappointed overall. The fish and chips were just fine but my dinner companion thought there was not enough fries. The fried fish was piled on top of the fries in those small metal baskets that you normally put only fries. We also got our check from someone other than our initial server. Overall, the service was the number one reason for the less than stellar evening. Parking: If you're not familiar with the parking situation, it may look like they have a small lot, they do, but you can find parking if you drive all the way around the building. The Irish Inn used to be one of our favorite places to visit but yesterday our experience was absolutely miserable due to horrible service from the moment we walked in the door. My husband and I walked in the bar area around 2:45pm on Saturday afternoon; there were 3 open tables available. When we were reluctantly greeted by a surly waiter, and my husband inquired about getting a table for 2, this person's response was "depends," with no follow up. I was ready to leave there and then but eventually we were "allowed" to have a table because we were eating. This person remained our server and demonstrated the absolute minimum level of service a server could provide. No offer for refills on drinks, and when he came to give us the check, he didn't appear to be pleased that we were staying for coffee and dessert. The observation was made that he went out of his way to be incredibly friendly to customers who were clearly regulars to the restaurant. I also observed him admonishing a woman who had deigned to sit at an open table for only drinks and he had the audacity to say to her, "Don't mess up my table." I have no idea what has happened to this restaurant since the last time we were here but after this this experience, and the $100+ check, and abhorrent service, it is likely our last. read more

I had culture shock when I heard some folks speaking Spanish inside, and then I realized it was Cinco de Mayo. Also, I changed my normal dark beer & heavy entree to a cider & a grilled fish. Sometimes it's good to go against the grain. This place is right near the Glen Echo Park, but I'm too old for popcorn and hotdogs. We also had the Mediterranean platter that came with hummus, veggies and pita.. not exactly Irish but it was good. We came on a Wednesday night and had a great time. The cover band was playing some great tunes and people actually danced. I was really surprised to see on the wall above my table a flag flow by my old unit in the Army. My wife had the reuben sandwich and I had corned beef and cabbage, both were very good. She commented on her sandwich being made from the same cut of beef as mine but that it didn't have sour kraut like some places do. So... where has this place been hiding??? It's a little out of the way for just a spur of the moment, but if you're hiking the C&O or visiting Glenn Echo, this isn't too far! Outdoor seat galore and indoor too... some of the door has umbrellas and some sheltered... so pretty nice. The wait staff is awesome, funny, and knowledge. Good suggestions and the such. However I can't believe that their speciality coffee machine was broken!!! Only regular coffee... good thing there were refills! The New England clam chowder was second very nicely. Having grown up in NYC, Irish bars are a dime a dozen. Service tends to be slow, and decor and ambiance is dark and murky. Not so the Irish Inn. The menu was balanced, the beers plentiful, and the music pleasant. I stayed traditional and enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie. It was delicious and well made. My fiancée ordered Bangers and Mash, and again, success. Their waitstaff was impressive, and seeing the place packed on a Wednesday as we left, I could understand why. We stopped in for brunch last weekend, and it was wonderful! Each table gets a basket of scones with fresh whipped butter. We started with the calamari - it was super fresh and hot, right out of the frier. It had the perfect amount of breading and was accompanied by a nice remoulade. The Bailey's French toast was unique and out of this world served with choice of Nutella, strawberry or maple syrup - really a must have show stopper. The fish and chips are a staple here! It was also nice and fresh with large potion of fish and fries. Beer batter on the fish not too thick and very flavorful. Quiche of the day was shrimp, pepper and onion served with salad greens.
