I went to The Grove in Potomac for a special occasion dinner and overall it was a lovely experience but I am not sure it totally lived up to the hype or the price tag. Let me break it down. The setting is absolutely gorgeous. The restaurant is nestled in this beautiful wooded area and the outdoor patio is stunning with all the string lights and fire pits. We sat outside and it was just perfect for a summer evening, so peaceful and romantic. The whole vibe is very upscale and elegant but not stuffy if that makes sense. Inside is beautiful too with big windows and a cozy fireplace. The food was really good but I will be honest I expected a little more for the prices. I started with the crab cake appetizer and it was delicious, lump crab meat with very little filler and a nice remoulade sauce on the side. For my main I got the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly medium rare just how I asked, so tender and juicy with a nice sear on the outside. It came with truffle mashed potatoes that were super creamy and flavorful. My friend got the sea bass and said it was flaky and perfectly seasoned. We also shared the creme brulee for dessert and it was heavenly, creamy and rich with that perfect caramelized sugar crust on top. Everything was presented beautifully and you can tell the kitchen takes pride in their plating. The service was really good too. Our server was professional and attentive with out being overbearing. He knew the menu well and made some good wine recommendations. The whole staff was polished and made us feel well taken care of. Now for the not so great parts and why its four stars instead of five. The prices are honestly kind of shocking. I knew it was going to be expensive but our bill was way higher than I expected for what we got. The portions are not huge either, like I finished my steak and was still a little hungry which should not happen at those prices lol. Also the parking situation is a little weird. You have to valet and they charge you for it which feels kind of extra when you are already dropping serious money on dinner. The lot is small too so its not like you have an option to park yourself. The other thing is the atmosphere while beautiful can feel a little stuffy. Everyone was talking in hushed voices and it felt almost like a library at some points. I prefer a restaurant with a little more energy and buzz but I guess that is just personal preference. Overall The Grove is a really nice spot for a special occasion or a romantic date night. The setting is gorgeous and the food is solid, I just think it is overpriced for what you get. If they adjusted the portions or the prices a little it would be an easy five stars. Aesthetically this place is really awesome, but the food doesn't match depending on what you get. Let's just start with the place. If you love floral designs, this place is it. And there's an entire wall of wine, and a cool neon sign, and the outdoor seating space is cool and cozy. They have a spacious bar with pretty good deals too! In the past, I have really enjoyed the watermelon caprese salad, and enjoyed a few glasses of wine at the bar. I have noticed an inconsistency with the service though. Sometimes, the bartender is really attentive, and other times they just aren't for whatever reason. My girlfriend loves French fries, and I was really excited for her to try theFrench fry ferris wheel. It's such a a great concept, but sadly it fell short. Some of the flavors are really lacking. I was able to tell them all apart,, but some are more seasoned than others, and I don't think I had one french fry that was hot. It is also possible that given this format, they just did not maintain temperature very long. But they are French fries, and that is important! Despite this, I recommend trying to spot at least once. My only complaint about my experience here was that my entree came out 10 minutes before my dad's burger did. I know it w an be hard to time for all dishes to be ready at the same time, but I would have preferred for them to keep my entree on a heating plate rather than delivering it when it was ready. This was our first visit here. On initial look of the menu, there was many items we would like to try in future visit. However, after our visit, I don't think we will be returning. The lack of service just was not acceptable. Bartender was our server. She was not pleasant at all. We discovered this place through the inKind app but were told that the system was down so we couldn't reap any benefits. We appreciated the explanation and was hungry so decided to stay. An hour later we regretted the decision. A breakfast burrito shouldn't take an hour to be made and the beauty of an open kitchen is that you can literally see the moment the chefs realize there's an empty spot on their griddle where a burrito should have been. I'm giving three stars because of the fact that the staff were probably exhausted from a brunch party that was ending; but what happened to the good ol days where bar staff were attentive and offered assurance rather than essentially ignoring our existence until we reminded them that we're not just keeping the seat warm while watching ice melt in our expensive drinks. The kicker... The burrito wasn't even hot when it arrived! The more I think about it, the more upsetting it is because I hate giving bad reviews. After second thought, I'm giving it two stars for the lack of accountability, service, and quality of food. I often walked by this on my way to my sibling's home when it was starting to being built. He lives a couple steps away and I was eagerly awaiting its opening. Well.... I'm fairly disappointed. Looks like they put in quite some thought on the decor but it doesn't match with some of the other aesthetics. The bathroom looks like it's part of a deli, and the open kitchen concept doesn't work well here- it has an unsettling presence... a cheap one. It should be lit up cozily and be adding to the warmth and appetite to a restaurant, which they sadly fall short of. The service was fine. There weren't a lot of people for a Sunday. There's no smiles here though, so don't expect "friendly" service. It did match the summery vibe (all the windows were opened to fully expose the high tops which is great) that the establishment could have kept if the service was more warm and welcoming. Now for the worst part- the food. It's either overly salty, too much sauce, or overcooked. No one was happy with their meal (there were 5 of us). The mashed potato on the side was likely the better of all the items. I didn't feel great afterwards. For the price- and trust that any conscious person is aware of the higher prices or literally everything - very lackluster. The amount we spent would result in a far more decadent and flavorful meal than what we got here. I had the turkey and Muenster cheese sandwich and meh... it was fine. Again, mediocre. I waited until Valentine's Day to visit this romantically decorated restaurant with flowers hanging from the ceiling and large murals depicting floral blooms. They had a special Valentine's Day menu featuring a 3 or 4 course option. I would have liked to try the special menu but we ended up choosing entrees from the regular menu. We started with the famous ferris wheel of fries. The fries were supposed to be flavored with Old Bay, salt and vinegar, cajun, classic, black garlic parmesan, and dry jerk. We were able to quickly distinguish the Old Bay and parmesan fries but the others were pretty plain. We did enjoy the three sauces that came with the fries. The spicy basil sauce was very faint in spice which we liked. The aioli was our favorite in which we got another sampling to finish up the fries. For our entrees we got the reuben sandwich with mash potatoes and the branzino. I normally opt for salmon whenever it's on the menu but decided I would try the branzino for the first time. It is a thin fish with a crispy seared skin. The sauce with shitake mushrooms and cherry tomatoes was a nice complement. I have to admit I thought the pureed peas took away from the dish. I felt like I was eating baby food. I would have been happy with just regular peas. Service was excellent. Parking lot was a bit busy for Friday night but there are spaces. This is a classic case of I should have listened to the reviews but I didn't. I'll start with the positives of our brunch: Our server Paul was AMAZING! The ambiance was great with the wall art and flowers Sadly that's about all that was positive :( The majority of the food was terrible. The "pigs in a blanket" style appetizer was wrapped in deep fried filo dough which sounds yummy except the dough was undercooked and saturated with oil as they didn't let it drain long enough before plating. The cheese grits had zero cheese flavor or consistency and were dry. The "bacon funnel sticks" were dry and tasteless and I'm not quite sure what had to be done in order to make bacon tasteless. The drinks sounded great on the menu but literally looked and tasted like a college student mixed them in their dorm. I first learned about The Grove after seeing Instagram videos of their specials. One thing that stood out was the Wednesday prime rib deal. So we came here one Wednesday evening and when we arrived it wasn't too busy. It was actually pretty quiet inside. The decor inside the restaurant is beautiful, its filled with flowers and has clean esthetic. We ordered the 16 oz prime rib and the real reuben sandwich. The prime rib was decent, cooked to a medium temperature which we both liked. I think it could've used a little more flavor or au jus. I wasn't sure if there were sides included, but it would be nice to have that to pair with the meat. Felt a little odd to just eat the prime rib without sides. Glad we also order the real reuben. The sandwich was tasty. It was on the greasier end, but the pastrami was full of flavor and balanced well with the sauerkraut and Russian dressing. The rye bread paired well because it perfectly balances the saltiness of the pastrami. The service was okay. I noticed there was only one server for the whole restaurant and she disappeared a few times when we wanted to get our water refilled. Overall, not a bad experience and while the meal was enjoyable, some dishes could benefit from adjustments in flavor, or preparation to enhance the overall taste and quality. I can't remember the last time I had to send a dish back and leave a restaurant altogether, but that's exactly what happened here. That response alone would have guaranteed we never return. The crab cakes were the final insult. The grove is a very pretty establishment with a great bar and happy hour. Me and the hubby are on a happy hour tour and this jewel is in our backyard and it we were so happy we did. Drink options including a signature old fashion and blood orange margarita were a great way to kick off a great evening. Enough food options to leave full and the service was pleasant with great music. It's not super loud so you can have a great conversation while chowing down on honey old bay wings. Was disappointed The Grove transitioned from an upscale Mediterranean restaurant to an American bar and grill and sounds like the shift has sparked mixed reactions among customers. The spot replaced Lahinch Bar & Grill and now it's not bringing anything special to draw people to the back corner of Cabin John Center. It was pretty empty on a Friday night. There is ample free parking at the main shopping center and a few around the back by the "main entrance". The layout and seating process was ridiculous. Entering from the side entrance closest to the main shopping center parking, I was told to walk across to the host stand by the main entrance around the back, only to be seated near the side entrance again. The place was nearly empty, they should just have two host stands or have the waitress seat me first and ask the hostess to bring the menus later. Also we didn't realize we stayed past closing for 25 mins (closing at 10pm on a Friday night for a "bar" isn't a good sign either) but as we thanked the workers on our way out, we saw someone say "thank you FINALLY" - if they checked in and reminded us of the time, we would've left sooner! The recent shift to an American bar and grill has led to a more conventional menu and I understand the business decision to shift to a more affordable concept based on some reviews, but the food was subpar. Ambiance was nice and I'll give it a 4, service was a 2, but food was also a 2 unfortunately based on value (taste vs cost) - see photo captions for review. Doubt this concept would work either, but the decor reminds me of many Asian spots, so I would recommend Vietnamese fusion since there's already a Thai and Japanese spot in this shopping center. read more

The ambiance was very vibrant and floral, I loved the amount of cherry blossoms and flowers that decorated the restaurant! My husband came here on a stormy weekend for dinner and we were seated fairly quickly. The menu isn't very large and we ordered the scallop risotto, chicken sandwich, and French fry wheel. We were pleasantly surprised with the scallop risotto. It was pretty good with the risotto not-too-soggy and flavorful and the scallops were juicy and tender. My husband also enjoyed the chicken sandwich. The Ferris wheel French fries, however, were disappointing as each cup of French fries were supposed to be a different flavor but they all tasted the same. The fries did taste good, but nothing much better than McDonald's fries that could have justified the $12 price. Came here for brunch with bookclub. We were a group of 3 adults and 2 kids under the age of 5. Our server was fantastic. I didn't get his name but a dark-haired man with glasses. He took time to explain the menu and gave honest feedback. Two of us got French toast, which was delicious. One person ordered duck contif, which she said was a hit. The la Reina gin drink was the groups favorite as we all got one. The Old fashioned with duck fat was described as flavorful with earthy notes. Took the wife here on a spontaneous date night with the kids out of town. Reservation said only outdoor seating available and it was like 105 heat index but we took it for a little later in the evening hoping it was tolerable. But when we got there there was plenty of seating and the very affable hostess offered indoor seating. Huh. I bet a bunch of people are not coming because of this. Anyhow we got drinks at the nice marble bar from the nice servers so fine. Yes cocktails are amusingly small here. Fine. They make them well. On to dinner. Tables are also amusingly small but fine. They have a fairly small menu, no specials (this was Saturday night by the way), but I often find that a good sign. We got the celery root hummus because the wife's gluten and dairy free and we suspected that things might be slow coming out. It was no lie the best hummus I've ever had. Roasted garlic, good salt, not much if any lemon and the celery root (I guess) kind of tempers the usual chickpea and tahini flavors. Nice big chunks of veggies and some pita. Excellent. Mains were rockfish and roast chicken. Now rockfish is a local specialty here in Maryland but it's actually hard to cook well. Kind of a freshwater saltwater hybrid with an almost off texture, like a wet flake, and a flavor that's more bland than mild. So this was also the best rockfish I've ever had. They got a nice sear on the skin, left the moist texture inside and put it on a fresh pea-herb puree. Oh and dropped a roasted lemon half to squeeze. Again just right on the salt. Wife enjoyed her chicken which she has a lot--meaning they nailed that too. Overall I hope The Grove makes it in the weird and expensive restaurant scene out here. They are very nice and have sorted out the service issues noted in other reviews--at least for us. I'm just not sure they know quite what identity they're after. But that's...fine too. read more

I was shocked by the size of my pink cocktail when it came out in a small glass (my photo makes it look normal size - not sure if content wise, it's regular but it definitely looked smaller than other cocktails) I really enjoyed the veal cheeks appetizer. I had the lobster ravioli- taste wise, it was just okay for me. Overall: 2.5/5 Food: 3/5 - I came here with a friend and got small plates to share. We came in for the happy hour and got the cheeseburger rolls (~$10 for 4). Everything else on the happy hour menu did not seem that great and very limited options. We then got the crab dip with pita as well as the shrimp. The crab dip tasted like that from a grocery store just heated up and the pita chips that came with the dip was very oily. The shrimp was alright but not something to come back for the cheeseburger rolls made for an ok combination because of the sauce but again not something I would come back for. Service: 3/5 - Alright service. The hostess seemed cold and not too welcoming. It felt like we were being rushed and asked to clear our plates when our plates clearly still had food/ were not finished. What is the rush when most of the restaurant is empty? Not that great. Value: 2/5 - The happy hour menu is not that great and varied and the value is pretty bad. I'm not sure who would get those appetizers for a "regular price". As for the other appetizers, they were all average - borderline bad and for the value, I would rather go to the cava or shake shack in the same area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a beautiful restaurant with outdoor seating and lots of indoor seating, nice decorations and overall a very inviting place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I loved their menu, lots to choose from for everyone's tastes. Nice ambiance with fresh eats and nice presentation. I got the scallop risotto and the grilled chicken sandwiches and I can say 10/10 for sandwich and 8.6/10 for the scallops. Chicken sandwich was slice thin with a nice sear but still juicy with crisp onions and smooth Munster cheese. Scallops were fresh and plump with a solid bed of risotto. This is such a cute spot! I came here for brunch with friends and the ambiance made a great Saturday morning brunch spot. We had a very friendly waitress and we all enjoyed our food. I ordered the crab cake Benedict and a lavender cocktail. Both were great. read more

Update: The kiddo and I met our friend for Sunday brunch at The Grove. What a difference a menu and slight concept overhaul can make! There are far too few restaurants serving a proper weekend brunch with actual breakfast items on their menu. The Grove offers eggs, waffles, French toast AND pancakes along with other lunch items. I noticed other diners looking around at tables, like we were doing, to see what everyone had ordered. There was a lot of food envy, not because orders were poorly made but due to the fact that every dish coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. The price points per plate were spot on, as well. I am excited to return for another brunch hopefully soon. read more

We came here for my friend's birthday, and the staff were super nice and friendly as they provided a free dessert and checked in on us without really bothering us. We stayed here for hours in this cute and pretty place on a perfect day. We tried a bunch of entrees and appetizers, and I would say that the menu doesn't have many options and the food is a bit overpriced for its value. The food was good enough, but it's not equivalent to the price. I think we're basically paying for the nice vibes. I did however most enjoy the crabmeat dip. We recently hosted a 70th birthday party here for a group of about 80-85 people, and it could not have been more perfect. I couldn't even swallow the tuna tartar since it was so fishy never have i ever had a tuna tartar as bad as that!
