Stayed here for 1 night and it was a good experience, I think it's best to stay for 1 or 2 nights. We were waiting for our house to get ready. It was not the biggest and newest but it was an ok place to stay for a night. The breakfast was good and had a lot of choices. I think if you stay here for more than 3 nights it's not the best, but if you are waiting for your house this is a good place for a night or two. The pool was calming and had a beautiful view but the water was cold, we did get to use the corolla light amenities when we were at the inn. I think this place is a place to explore corolla and not just be in your room. Overall it was a good time, everywhere was pretty close. Best for 2 to 3 people and good for couple. read more

I paid through Expedia and they kept charging my card to over $3,000. They would not respond to my emails about this so I called them out on the fraud with my bank. While I was there I turned the corner to go to my room and got hit in the face with bug killer. I decided to go to the pool and once again caught the spray. I was told they were spraying under the deck where I was staying after these two incidents. I had a 4lb Yorkshire Terrier who could no longer enjoy the outdoors because of this. Guest were not notified to avoid the areas while spraying. The woman who I had issues with is easy to identify. She is the one with the unfriendly attitude. She was far from welcoming when I checked in. The rest of the staff was totally delightful. The room was not dusted and did not smell inviting. I had stayed here before several years ago and it was great. This time because of one woman with an attitude things were awful. I would check your bank statements if you stay here. read more

Not at all like advertisements. Only a few rooms actually overlook the sound. Ours was in the building behind the one overlooking the sound, so our view was just of another building. We tried switching rooms, but none were available. There is no housekeeping service. We had to take out our own trash. We had to go to the office to ask for more trash bags and toilet paper. The dishwasher smelled and one of the beds smelled like mildew. The fireplace also didn't work. It is pet friendly, so expect a lot of barking. I can see how that would be annoying if you didn't have pets of your own with you and were wanting somewhere quiet to stay. In terms of positives; the room was a good size and our dogs were able to stay with us. The dock on the sound is gorgeous. Also it's only a few blocks or a short walk away from the lighthouse. A little quaint hotel located in the outer banks of North Carolina. The staff was amazing! They are super friendly and courteous! I called a couple of times with questions regarding my reservation and they were able to answer all my questions and were courteous. My fiancé and I were in mid move and they accommodated our trailer. The gave us a welcoming greeting and were friendly. For the hotel itself I was disappointed. They charge a resort fee which I do not understand. Based on the pictures, there is nothing resort like about this place. The rooms are severely outdated with old worn carpet. For the price we paid to stay, I was expecting more. The price is very high and you do not really get your moneys worth. The breakfast was a disappointment. Once an item runs out, they do not replace it. If you do not arrive early enough, you are dealing with a very limited menu. The selection is very bare and is sub par compared to most hotels. I didn't really have a choice since the property was the only one left with a room for Labor Day weekend. I can see why. It needs a little updating. The rooms need deeper cleaning, & the room had a musty, moldy odor. Just a disclaimer- this is a pet-friendly hotel. The Pros- friendly staff, great views, and an awesome nature trail to walk next to the sound every morning. The Cons- very bare bones on comforts for the price, a little bit of a mildew smell and you can hear your neighbors. We ended up staying here because it was close to my family who had rented a house and we needed to bring our pup with us, and there were not very many last minute options to choose from. I think it was a nice place to stay especially if you have a pet because the staff were very accommodating and it had hardwood floors so you if your dog had an accident it's easy to clean up. I don't think we'd stay here again, because it seemed a little crazy for the price, but not a terrible experience. read more

I had to stay one night because I could not get to my house on the 4x4 beach due to high tides. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the fact that it had a small fridge , microwave and hot plate. I was able to eat my leftovers from home and not have to venture out after my 12 hour drive. Great location, very pet friendly, beautiful sunsets. The Inn is on the older side and the walkways (all wooden boardwalk type) could use some upgrading and maintenance, they tend to be noisy as well. Don't stay in Room 55. Although the room was clean and a comfortable size, it faces the parking lot along Route 12. There were only sheers on the window and the floodlights in the parking lot illuminated the room all night until the sunrise in the morning which came through the sheers and reflected off the mirrors on the closet doors. It came in handy that there was a kitchen with a full refrigerator, but there was very limited kitchen supplies, especially no drinking glasses, except for the 4 coffee paper cups. We did a lot of take out and would have appreciated a more equipped kitchen. Our first day we were surprised to find on the windowsill a homemade "terrarium" made out of 1/2 of a water bottle . . growing . . something. There was only 1 roll of toilet paper and zero boxes of tissues. We were traveling during COVID and were very understanding that our room would not be cleaned daily. It was not a problem to get clean towels (and extra toilet paper) from the front office. Since there was no housekeeping, we were unaware of what to do with the overflowing garbage. The continental breakfast was okay, muffins, bagels, sausage, hard boiled eggs, cereal, granola bars, coffee, tea, milk etc. All were wrapped individually which was nice. Since this Inn is on the water there are a lot of mosquitos. We knew that going in, but we were surprised that the property was not kept (or swept) of these dead insects. We had no screens on our windows and were therefore unable to open them during the beautiful weather. Probably the most disappointing (and disheartening) experience was that despite the sign on the main office door that indicated you must wear a face mask . . the employees were the only ones I saw WITHOUT masks inside the office :( P.S. We did ask for a different room upon arrival and were told there were no other room available. read more

Great Hotel in a perfect location. This hotel backs right up to the sound and is a Great place to watch the sunset . Friendly staff and the rooms are quaint and clean. I'll definitely stay here again and I'll recommend it to my friends! One thing I will say for those this might affect, there are ALOT of steps. No elevator however the front desk folks will get your luggage to your room. Not a deal breaker however if you have trouble with steps you may want to request a room on a lower level or the most easily accessible. read more

Located in an absolutely gorgeous part of the Outer Banks, I would stay at this inn again in a heartbeat. I never grew tired of watching the different sunsets and sunrises everyday over the bay that lies immediately behind the inn. You can walk out on their gazebo or lounge in the outdoor pool to watch the many birds in the water or the million stars you can see in the night sky. There is not much to do around the inn because it is in a rather secluded area of the Outer Banks. That said, it is the perfect place to escape where you can enjoy all the benefits of the Corolla Light resort. With the bikes the inn offers free of charge, you can ride around the resort whenever you want. The inn's free breakfast was great too. They have a variety of options for everyone including different flavors of oatmeal, cereals, yogurt, grits, bread, english muffins, and bagels. They had delicious pastries each morning such as blueberry muffins, brown sugar scones, and cinnamon rolls. I was also excited to see little packets of peanut butter to put my toast or bagels (it is not common for continental breakfast to have peanut butter). I was really upset, however, at how much styrofoam bowls and cups were used during breakfast instead of real dishes. My room itself was also a joy to stay in. It was clean and had a lot of amenities provided such as bottled water. There are spiders and webs all over the inn but anyone that goes outside in the Outer Banks knows that you find this everywhere. If you go on vacation to meet great new people, note that the Outer Banks is not the place to go. Everyone has an attitude and the inn is no exception. My biggest suggestion, though, if you want a calming stay is to go in the off season (not in the summer months)! read more

This is a beautiful, cozy beach house property nestled in the Corolla community where my twin and I stayed for two days. Our room was kind of small, but I loved how the bathtub was rather large and had good water pressure for showering. Everything was clean, which was good enough for me. I'm not much into hanging out in my hotel room, so I was happy that there were several places in the Inn where you could sit and look out into the water and the sunset or enjoy the beautiful weather. It's family owned and they were rather short staffed due to it being off season, but they were very kind and informative and offered their number if assistance was needed after hours. I also loved the location of the property as there were several places were you could walk on a nature trail. Their continental breakfast was pretty small selection, but decent. I managed to enjoy some hot coffee, eggs, sausage and croissant and sit out on the patio to enjoy the crisp morning that as a night shift worker is very rare for me. I would definitely want to come back here should I find myself wanting another trip to Corolla. read more

We are finishing up a 6-day stay in a King Sound-front, pet friendly room (#33). Every part of our stay here has been fantastic, starting with the wonderful and hard working staff. Check in was easy, the room is spacious and clean, with our own two Adirondack chairs situated on a semi-private deck right on the sound. The sunsets have been ridiculous. Continental Breakfasts are solid, highlighted by fresh, almost gourmet muffins. The grounds are well-maintained (one gentlemen seems to be everywhere). We always stay oceanfront, but couldn't find any available houses this week so tried out the Inn. So glad we did. I'd come. Our stay comes with privileges at a local resort, so I've used the gym and sports facilities on a daily basis. Just a great stay. I'd come back in a heartbeat. read more

Great view! Very comfy but pretty pricey for a room with such outdated furniture. It seemed clean enough to me. The breakfast buffet was simple and sufficient but some variety would have made it possible to eat it on the third morning. As it was, I just could not eat much on morning three. I am still happy with the choice we made because of the location and view. I am giving three stars because it was clean. I was pretty disappointed here. We pulled in to the parking lot and instead of walking in to get our keys, they were left in an envelope with our name on it in a box by the front door labeled "After Hours". We arrived at 5:30 in the afternoon. The rooms are a comfortable size, you walk in to the bed area, at the foot of the bed is the kitchen area, and past the bed is the sofa area and past that is where the dresser sits with the tv on it in nook like area. The bed was a king bed, and pretty comfortable, the most important part of a stay although the pillows weren't great. The table and chairs fill the space between the bed and sofa, the dresser with tv was all the way on the other side of the room so if we wanted to lay in bed and watch tv, the bed was by the door and the 25" tv was 20 feet away -_- We ended up on the sofa, which was too small for two of us to lounge on and the tv is stuck in zoomed in mode so the picture was distorted. The bathroom was clean, plenty of room, but a pedestal sink, so absolutely no counter space. There's a tiny glass shelf directly above the sink for toothbrushes etc unless you use an electric tooth brush like we do, so it sat on another tiny little shelf over to the side - I was glad that was there! But other than that, no room for toiletries in the bathroom. The best part - insert sarcasm - was being waken by people loudly talking and dropping suitcases right outside the room on the way out at 5:15 am Sunday morning and the rolling of the suitcases along the walkway. The bed is RIGHT next to the window, I could literally lay in bed and reach out and touch the window. Of course, with your heart pounding like that, I never went back to sleep. I know this has nothing to do with the hotel itself and just with rude people but it added to the whole experience. As a whole, the hotel needs some updating. It was built in the 80's and pretty much hasn't been updated since. As a side, the best part of our whole trip was seeing the wild ponies on the beach. They are beautiful. But the restaurants are LOUD, no nice, quiet dinner conversations in a nice restaurant - meals were generally around $20/ea and although most were really nice, it was a party atmosphere in all of them. And we came up on more than a few people who hated tourists in this area. And for vegans, not a friendly area. Thought we were going to leave town with a bakers dozen of vegan donuts just now, and were told that we needed to order 2 hours in advance and that ALL of the vegan donuts for today were spoken for because someone had ordered them yesterday - the ad said "we have vegan options" but no mention of ordering ahead. Epic. Not impressed, and pretty underwhelmed as a whole. We probably won't be back. read more

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and let me tell you- best decision ever!! They upgraded our room once they found out it was our honeymoon! The staff is so friendly and accommodating! I rented a room right before the Memorial Day weekend just to check this place out and could not have been more pleased. My friend and I both own beautiful homes in Duck so staying in a smaller "local" inn is always chancy (one never knows what to expect) but it's nice to just leave home and check out other areas of this island we live on! Right from the get-go it was a good experience; the gentleman at the front desk was so nice and friendly and helpful (darn if I remember his name but he was a perfect "host" to check the guests in!). The room we rented was soundfront and the views of the sunset were incredible. Also, we could walk right out of our door to our own private little deck area and relax in nice chairs or we could walk down a long pier to a gazebo and sit on the benches and enjoy the night breeze. It was also fun watching other people enjoy watersports that I guess are somehow connected to this inn. The pool was great (right next to our room) and the seating around it was good. They even offered a breakfast and this would be my only suggestion: let the guests get their own coffee, tea, juice, etc. as the line was long and the one man trying to help everyone was really overworked (just a suggstion). I would definately recommend this inn to anyone and I would definately return myself as would my friend --and, I'd give this six stars instead of just five if I could!! read more

This is our second year staying at The Inn Corolla Light. Last year my husband and I and our Labrador puppy had a lovely stay. We were looking forward to our visit this year only to be terribly disappointed. The room was very small room and you could barely move around. It had a musty/ moldy smell to it, The bathroom looked like it was falling apart and we had no where to put our toiletry items. It also had a plug in deodorizer that was empty in an effort to hide the odor. Hard to believe we were charged $198.00 more than the previous year. The breakfast, which was included, was terrible and you could not find a napkin. I did go to the office to tell them we had no internet and that the room was extremely disappointing. She promised to have someone check it and get back to me. I left my number and needless to say I never heard back. We will not be returning next year, read more

We were here last week. This was our 3rd year. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. The COVID put a damper on room service. I will not go into it. The couch in room 23 should be burned. It was like sitting on springs. We are already planning go here next year. I would recommend this place to everybody. I blame the COVID for the lack of room service. read more

My wife and I came here for our honeymoon in June. We had a room on the bay side that was small but very comfortable, and the view of the sunsets from the deck was absolutely incredible. The pool and hot tub are very nice, right on the water, and never packed. The best part about the inn is that you get all the benefits of staying at the Corolla Light resort without, you know, staying at a resort. You can grab one of the bikes from the inn (in various states of repair) and leisurely pedal over to their facilities (three or four pools, beach, restaurant, bar, shuffleboard, basketball) or it's a 10-15 minute walk. There's a shuttle that runs periodically as well. There is other beach access just up the road that is closer than the resort access, also. There is a huge fitness complex just down the road that you also have access to while staying at the inn -- it has ping pong, racquet sports, indoor lap pool, etc. The rooms are fairly expensive but in my opinion worth it -- and hopefully you won't be spending too much time in your room anyway. The breakfast is not a huge, hot spread, but it's substantial (cereal, yogurt, bagels, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, coffee, juice, etc.). The innkeepers even left us a bottle of wine and a welcome/congrats in our room. The most accurate description of this inn may be a large bed and breakfast with more privacy. There was even a litter of young kittens romping around the grounds! The inn is only about 5 miles south of where the highway turns to beach -- Corolla is the last town on the north end of the Outer Banks. I believe the traffic during the peak tourist season can get pretty bad, so being that far north is one downside, but on the other hand I liked the north end of OBX much better than south. There are very few hotels up there, so if you want to stay north and don't have a rental home, this is your best bet. Enjoy. read more

This place has so much potential, the views are amazing and the staff is friendly but they don't seem to do Any deep cleaning or maintenance. There's brown smudges all over the ceiling and door, the furniture is outdated, there's dust caked areas throughout the room. The bathroom ceiling is half painted a different tone of white, there is mold in the room and the smell is disgusting. You walk into a whiff of sourness covered with bleach and Lysol. The carpet is 20 years old and peeling at the corners. I felt so dirty sleeping in this room and definitely not comfortable to walk around without shoes in the room. There are bugs and spiders all over the walls entering your room and more On the inside. It looks like years of no maintenance, no power washing the exterior. They really need to hire someone to do some serious deep cleaning, updating and maintaining. DISGUSTING! read more

The service was wonderful and the Inn was charming. That said it was a bit dated and our room had a odor typical to a waterside establishment. It was easy to overlook as the view was AMAZING and there were two adorondeck chairs outside the sliding glass doors on the porch overlooking the bay. The staff was chatty, we like that, and helpful. They even loaned us beach chairs so that we didn't have to buy them for our too short stay. I would choose the inn again, our experience was memorable! read more

I had a very pleasant stay. It's dog friendly and many of the visitors had dogs that were friendly. The beaches are amazing . The sunset from the the back deck was priceless. The staff was so helpful and super friendly. Some opportunities for improvement . Breakfast was weak . The coffee could certainly use a few steps up and overcompensate for the sparse breakfast. The place was really clean and smelled fine. They need to get a handle on the bugs/ spiders being so close to water . Essential oils are pet friendly and worth the investment to keep critters away. The hotel is perfectly located, literally a hop to the beach on one side and the water just to the other. Unfortunately that is all I can recommend about this hotel. Graham took very good care of us in booking last minute and with a pet. Pet-friendly hotels are not easy to find. We got to the hotel around 1pm and the room was already ready, 3 hours before check-in! We took advantage and just dropped off our bags and went just down the street to Timbuk II. Came back a few hours later and raced to the beach. When we returned to our room we turned right back around and went to dinner. Afterwards, we finally got back to shower and get to bed. That's when we noticed there was garbage from whoever was previously in the room on the floor near the TV and behind the nightstands. Our 1 year old almost put it in her mouth... The bathroom still hand sand in the tub and the tub did not drain. The toilet still had remainder, I'll leave it at that. When we woke up the next morning with sore throats we noticed the coating of dust on the fan. Upon check out I mentioned the issues we had with room to the front desk, she wrote down a note and stated "I'm sorry, would you like a copy of your receipt." The hotel was a nice location, but not worth the $400 price tag based on the state of the room. The experience has definitely reminded me of why it's not good to notice problems with your room before the office closes. If we return to Corolla, we'll be staying elsewhere. read more

Nice environment and with north shore water sports right next store giving out 20% discounts you are able to ride kayaks, jet skis, paddle boards and etc for a lower price. They also called us several hours prior to check in to let us know our room was ready... Which is huge for those who get down here early. The breakfast is nice, but limited. I visited the Inn during off-season so while I can't speak to the amenities offered during peak season with the resort, I did thoroughly enjoy my stay. Everyone on staff I spoke to was friendly and courteous, at times going above and beyond to make sure I had the most comfortable stay possible. The upgraded rooms in the back of the Inn share a back patio that overlooks the Currituck sound and a gazebo-- I watched the sun set from the chairs on the back patio each night and every night it was more beautiful than the previous. The inn is in a great location to reach restaurants and activities. If you would like to bike, bike rentals are located on property and are free, and the public beach access, whalehead, historic village and a couple of restaurants are within biking distance. I did notice an uncomfortable number of spiders during my stay inside my room, but I'm sure there's little that can be done about that. read more

Make sure if you use trip advisor for searching reviews that you sort by rating, and read the real reviews with low ratings verses the fluff reviews that appear to have been created to hide them. (hint: the "good" reviews are all singular reviews that appear to try to "answer" the bad ones - and the "authors" seem to all commit the same grammar and spelling errors.) make sure you dig around other review sites that aren't just links to trip advisor. read more

Ok where do i even begin! Soo overpriced our original room was small and had no windows, when we asked to change we were charged and moved down a dim lit spider filled utility hall. Our room there wasn't much better. There was so much mold and we killed 4-5 spiders in the room. The only good thing is the location but its still not on the beach. I would recommend from personal experience the Hampton inn great service for a far less cost, or just rent a beach house and enjoy a week in the sun. read more
