The Platter comes with 2 meats and costs $4 more. You pay More for the platter, however you get the same amount of meat as a plate. Both come with 8 oz of meat. When I complained I was told, "you are paying for the privilege of having two types of meat." To be clear, more money, same amount of food. Ridiculous! On top of this, if you want anything other than pulled meat or tofu you'll be up charged. I'm providing a picture of our "big platter". I was hoping the taste would change my mind. Pulled pork was all gristle, sausage was too charred. There are too many amazing, fair places to eat in this area. We won't be back. Skip it. read more

What a great place! It was one of our first forays out of the world of takeout and delivery imposed upon us this past year. It was so nice to be back inside a restaurant. Service was friendly and accommodating from the hostess, to our server, bartender, food runner, to the manger. Everyone made us feel welcomed. The $5 margaritas (Saturday drink special--I suspect the Improper Pig may become our Saturday night tradition) tasted like $15 margaritas. Score! The pulled pork egg rolls were a fun twist and just delicious! Everything we had was very tasty. I highly recommend the ribs (dry rubbed, smoked, then grilled), the pulled pork, the mac & cheese, and the sweet potato fries. They fries were unexpectedly crispy waffle fries that were perfectly salted. Just how they accomplished this level of crispness with sweet potatoes is pure magic. There's a half dozen homemade BBQ sauces to try--Queen Bee's is the best. It's sweet and tangy. Unfortunately all this great food left no room for dessert. Maybe next time. . . read more

This place was amazing! We were greeted and sat promptly. There is so much seating, and an outside area for when the weather is nice. On Saturdays, there is a special for $5 margaritas, which is what everyone at the table had (besides the pregnant lady). I ordered the southern salmon sandwich. It was delicious! It had a huge piece of salmon that was cooked perfectly. The pimento cheese sauce on top was great, and so was the bacon. I loved my side order of sweet potato fries. They were waffle fries and crispy. My husband got the half chicken. The waitress told us right away that the cooking time is 15-20 min, and she put that order in right away. Our parents got the charcuterie board, which was huge and more than enough to feed two people! Overall, we had a great time here, and we will definitely be back! read more

Choice of bbq is good. There are choices of sauces on the table you can pour onto your plate to taste. It is a tight seating restaurant even though parts of it has high ceilings. We were there for dinner and parking is shared like most strip malls are. I am not into bbq much so this is not my repeat place to go to. read more

There's much to like about this new BBQ joint, starting with its sweet smoky aroma wafting through the air of the Rea Farms parking lot in which it resides. The two-level area and bar is both open and airy. Service was friendly and attentive from beginning to end during my first lunch visit. I played it safe and went with the Pulled Pork Platter with two sides for $12.99. The mound of meat was generous and, as expected, nicely smoked; however, it was touch dry. The sides were very good. I loved the rich and creamy grits which were served piping hot. The black-eyed pea salad was also flavorful. The hushpuppies are the sweet kind, which I like, but mine were served lukewarm. My buddy ordered a cheeseburger with homemade chips for about 10 bucks. The chips were among the best I have ever had, but the burger was just average, so if it's a burger you want then go to a burger joint. Overall, everything was okay but it didn't blow me away. I did like it well enough to give it another shot. For now though, I can only give it 3 stars. read more

Went here a while ago, so I don't remember the specifics, but my overall impression was good food at a reasonable price! The pork was flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth, and all the sides (we got a tray) were well-executed. They also had a variety of BBQ sauces, so it was fun to try each one and mix n' match! read more

Waitress was very friendly though neither she nor the server who brought my meal out from the kitchen thought to give me silverware. I had to wait several minutes to flag someone down. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, chips and cole slaw. The pork itself was tasty but it was served on such a poor quality bun that it felt like trying to hold shredded pork between two wet pieces of thin cardboard. The chips were good. The cole slaw was unbelievably tasteless. It looked freshly made but it had absolutely no flavor at all. The restaurant was clean and casual. It was nice to have a selection of 6 types of barbecue sauce but it was anyone's guess which one you should pick as there was no guide to the flavors as they were presented in plastic dispensers with no labels. A name was handwritten on the top in sharpie but there was no clue as to the flavor of "Ma's bbq" versus "Queen B" etc. Overall it wasn't a horrible experience but I'm unlikely to go back a second time. read more

Great service! Our server was so attentive and willing to answer all questions about the menu we had. The sweet tea was not overly sweet as some places (sorry to all my southern friends who like sweet sweet tea) The sampler BBQ was enormous and enough for 2. I wish the BBQ sauces were gluten-free which is where they lost a point with me, between 6 sauces only 2 were gluten-free and none were BBQ. Finally made it over here for lunch today and we had a very nice time. We ordered a mimosa and a Bloody Mary (both $4 on Sunday's) and the mimosa was perfect but the Bloody Mary was not good at all. It was flavorless and thick and I could not drink much of it. The meal got much better after drinks, and the service and food were very good. Our server Mack was kind and attentive. The food was fresh, hot, and tasty. The star of the meal though were the hush puppies, they have a honey glaze and they were amazinggggg. On a whim drove to Charlotte, NC from Western NC to have lunch here after seeing it on DDD on the Food Network. Was well worth the trip and will do it again. Atmosphere was great with great music. Staff and service was amazing and then the food comes out. Hubby and I split the pork rolls, twice baked jalapeños, and the improper plate with brisket and two sides. After several visits to the Cotswald location we were pleased to see the Rea Farms location opened. We had a relaxing Friday lunch and we are looking forward to coming back. The location is perfect for us and there is plenty of parking. Service was friendly, attentive, and prompt. It may be due to the recent opening but there were few people here at 11:30. As word gets out they should be packed. The food was great with good prices. Lots of options for everyone. My chili was amazing and my wife liked her pimento cheese sandwich. Any time you get smoked ham with grits, it is hard to improve on the dish! Our favorite green beans were just as good at this location as the old one, which was a relief. Hands down the best BBQ in Charlotte. Maybe the best, period. We go here frequently and always have fantastic food and service. If you're indecisive, just split a charcuterie tray - easily feeds two people. Every kind of meat they serve is so flavorful and tender it does not NEED the sauce, but every flavor of sauce they offer is phenomenal too. I'm heartbroken to be moving to the other side of town but we'll definitely make the drive down from the University area every once in a while. read more

Daughters food was cold and inedible and my meal was being brought out after the rest of the family finished the two meals that were edible. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY- you will only be disappointed. The manager did try to make it better but the damage was done and her staff completely let her down. Now I know why it was only 20% capacity. Avoid or be disappointed. I almost forgot- one dimwit was spray the outside glass doors with cleaner and the patrons near by had to cover their food to block the chemicals. However, the meat was so marinated and juicy you can almost skip the added sauce. The handmade chips were also delicious, and complimented the sandwich. Every time I go here, I receive such a welcoming environment! The food is absolutely wonderful and would recommend the Mac N Cheeseburger to anyone with pork aversions. I went here last night a places a Togo order with gyasi and it was one of the best slices of brisket I've ever tasted, i pairs it with I think the tongs Thai sauce that gyasi recommended and it was perfect for it. 1st visit to The Improper Pig today. Ordered takeout for lunch and this is a place I will definitely go back to. Friendly staff, clean environment, but most of all - DELICIOUS! Some of the best greens I've ever had from a restaurant - and they are vegan. I am not a vegan so I was skeptical - they were fantastic. I think their East Carolina sauce is the best they have but the Hoisan is very good as well. Looking forward to dining in on my next visit. Well done! P.S. BBQ is great, several great sauces, grits are delicious, love the pickled onions with the BBQ, hot fresh hushpuppies - yum!, collards very good, appreciate the drink specials, service very good, outdoor area is so nice.
