North Hall is a fantastic venue that is located in the heart of D.C., only blocks away from the…read moreU.S. Capitol Building. The brick exterior coupled with the large white-walled interior provided the perfect "blank canvas" to backdrop our event. We hosted nearly 100 people and had plenty of room for a live band and bar. The reason this review earned three stars was because of venue management. An important aspect of North Hall is that they will not let you do any setup prior to the event unless you pay per hour. As an example: our event started at 5pm and we had to pay 500$ more to start setup at 3pm. The real issue arose when we were informed that we could not leave anything in a closet or kitchen in order to make the "day-of" prep easier. Management allowed absolutely nothing from entering or remaining in the space despite there being no event prior to our reception. On a positive note, the two hour setup window provided a testament to how amazing our vendors were; they created a beautiful space with no help from North Hall. The management induced plenty of undue stress by being unclear of what permits were needed for the event. They went on to remind us with little time to prepare. This issue manifested itself one week prior to our wedding day, where our wedding coordinator, my wife, and myself scrambled to get permits for food, alcohol, etc. Overall, North Hall is truly lovely, but future customers should be aware that this venue is fortified by the bureaucracy of Washington D.C. Much like your local trip to the DMV, illogical policies and the lack of regard for the individual reign supreme. Weddings are stressful and emotional, no one should have to deal with the inefficiencies of government and the shortcomings of bureaucrats on their special day.

I attempted to DIY a lot of stuff and was overwhelmed on event day however, when I dropped off the stuff; she and her team took over and bought my vision to reality. Their property is so beautiful and they went above and beyond for my son's first birthday party. They even surprised us when her husband dressed up as a chicken and did the chicken dance which the kids loved. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for an amazing venue for your event. However, as the wedding got closer, I was surprised to learn that he didn't have any standard touchpoints or phone calls built into his process. For such an important vendor who needs to handle specific announcements, cues, and emceeing throughout the night, I found that unusual. I ended up creating a very detailed document outlining every cue and announcement and specifically requested a phone call to review it. I can't imagine how the day would've gone without that call--because even with it, several cues were still missed. Ceremony: The microphone cut in and out throughout my vows, even though I had asked for a sound check beforehand. I also asked for him to start music at a specific cue (the officiant would say a particular sentence and exit the platform we were standing on). He missed that cue and we stood there in several long moments of silence. Luckily the officiant was my best friend and was still able to maneuver the proper timing for us so that we kissed at the right moment in the song. Reception: During the reception, I asked for a surprise dance floor opening after taking a large group photo with all the guests. We went over my vision several times, but he completely botched it. Then, the microphones weren't working well for the speeches. Throughout the rest of the night, his energy was completely flat. To give him the benefit of the doubt, I did have a smaller crowd, and people weren't as eager to dance as I expected. But I felt he didn't read the room well or adjust accordingly. He played several songs that weren't even on my "play" list, rarely spoke on the microphone, and didn't make any effort to encourage guests to dance or stay engaged. End of the night: I had planned a "last dance of the night" for all our guests, but about fifteen minutes before 10PM, people were already gathering their coats and leaving. Instead of jumping to the final song or encouraging guests to stay, he said nothing. I ended up having to personally ask people to stay and send my maid of honor to tell him to play the last song so we could have that final dance. Again, just didn't read the room. Communication and attitude: Whenever I tried to give feedback during the night about music choices, he came across as rude and dismissive. While I understand that it was a challenging crowd, as the bride who knows the guests best, I wish he had been more receptive, friendly, and enthusiastic. Overall, if you're more of a type B bride who doesn't have any specific cues or requests for him, and you have an easy crowd who you know will dance (I thought my guests would - I was surprised - makes me wonder if it was them or him) then you might be fine. But overall I would say I got what I paid for as he was the cheapest DJ option we found; I regret not splurging on a DJ. Luckily our wedding day was still beautiful, but it was definitely in spite of the DJ services.

With his help we were able to pull off a lovely ceremony and an awesome reception with ambiance and dancing in spades. Ryan replied promptly to emails and phone calls and was proactive in gathering information that he required. I was extremely picky with the songs that I wanted to be played at our wedding and pretty much chose each song to be played during the event. Ryan was happy to accommodate my requests and offered many valuable suggestions throughout the planning process including song choices, number of songs, song flow, light effects and general flow of the event. We didn't have a designated wedding coordinator though the venue coordinator did act as such on the day of the event. Ryan worked with her to coordinate each step of the day and pulled it all off without any major issues. The minor ones that did arise didn't catch him off guard (like when they brought out dinner before the toasts) and he dealt with them professionally and was able to minimize their effect of the rest of the event. Ryan was a great MC for the event and was enthusiastic and fun without being overbearing. He helped create just the kind of light, fun and friendly atmosphere that we were looking for. He was also vital to managing the flow of day's events like dances, toasts, cake cutting, etc. We literally could not have done it without him. The sound and lighting equipment provided was top notch to say the least. The ceremony was outside and everyone was clearly heard though the secondary speaker system and portable mics. The ceremonial music played though these sounded great as well. The speakers for the reception were quite loud and crisp and could have easily filled a room 10x the size of our rather large reception hall. The best part however was the lighting. Ambient lighting was provided that gave the room a very warm and tasteful glow that evolved as the night went on. The main light rig held a number of lights, lasers and a disco ball that Ryan gradually increased the intensity of as the night went on. By the end of the night (per my request) it was like being in a world class night club or at an arena concert. Overall I would highly recommend Da Vinci Sound and Vision to anyone who is interested in DJ services. I looked into a number of companies and no one came close to offering the same level of value that they did. I can't say what other companies level of customer service is like but as someone who has made a career in the IT and medical customer service field I recognize and appreciate great customer service. Da Vinci Sound and Vision provided truly great customer service.
