This review is specifically for the Oceanfront Breakfast Cafe…read more While we have stayed at the Inn several times, we continue to come back for the Breakfast Cafe. When they say the best breakfast in Gloucester, it's not an exaggeration! The couple that owns the Inn/Cafe are very hospitable and welcoming people. I've been visiting for the past 15+ years and every stay and meal has always been exceptional. Additionally, the staff they hire and employ is equally committed. It is truly a five-star operation. We were recently up in the area visiting Gloucester and Rockport. As always, one of those mornings meant we had to stop at Atlantis Oceanfront Cafe! It is a MUST. I almost hate letting this gem/secret out. It is the best place for breakfast with the very best view. It is post-card perfect. Your window table overlooks the rocks+water and you can visually see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks. It doesn't get much more picturesque or scenic than that! While the menu has changed a bit since my last visit, the quality has not. The breakfast portions are very generous and everything is of the highest quality. Our favorite is the eggs Benedict. Those perfectly poached eggs resting on top of those bakery-quality English muffins. The tender Canadian bacon. The perfect amount of creamy, perfectly seasoned hollandaise sauce. The side of tender and perfectly seasoned breakfast potatoes. It doesn't get any better than that in my book! Another favorite of mine is their GIANT Fresh Blueberry Pancakes. They remind me greatly of every childhood trip to the Atlantis and Gloucester. I've always told my family if I had to have one last breakfast, let's hope Atlantis Cafe is in season! I am not joking either! Service is always top priority. Friendly and expeditious. The kitchen is open to the dining room and their culinary takes true pride in every plate they put out. If you're looking for the best breakfast with the best view in Gloucester, Atlantis Oceanfront is the place. I did notice the secret has gotten out as of late! We did have a short 15-minute wait this last visit. Parking can also be challenging given the lot size and guest/staff vehicles parked for the Inn. The patience is worth the reward! Best Breakfast in Gloucester. Period. Wonderful, Involved Owners.

We had a view from the second floor across the street to Gloucester Bay and the famous mariners statue. Downtown is a short walk in one direction, and the bridge that is seen on Wicked Tuna a short walk in the opposite direction. There is a fabulous waterfront park a short distance away with beautiful views for a hike. We did not use our car during the visit. Since they had availability, we were taken on a tour and were able to choose our room. Everything was in working order, with the room very large and comfortable. We stayed over Wednesday night and the evening "sing was directly below our room. I was reminded for some reason to call and catch up with my sweat lodge hippy quaker sister and see how she was doing (just fine thanks). I am sure it was our imagination, but the following morning we heard something scurrying across the roof. My wide asked if I thought it was the famous muffin bunny. I checked the door, and there was the muffin basket. We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn, and in Gloucester. If you visit the Inn, and are staying on the second floor, pack light as the stairway is a bit steep.

Rooms are charming. Lots of exposed beams, old-fashioned bed with a very firm mattress. The window A/C are plenty cool enough, and we were there during a super hot & humid week. The location is perfect. Across from the harbor, very very close to a beach where you can swim, and you can head right to the walkable downtown area.

Fruit, coffee cake or a pastry, a smoothie in a champagne type glass and then the main course - whether it is an egg Benedict Oscar or french toast made from Portuguese sweet bread. Excellent coffee too - which is not a small thing. We had room 7 - which is on the first floor and facing street. I wish there was a front porch - that would be excellent. It is large with the bedroom separate from the sitting room. Which was good to buffer my swearing and crying when the Yankees lost to the Astros in Game 6. My only deductions are really House based and not based on anything that occurred. The communal area is basically the 10 seat table in a room that requires negotiation to navigate around when full during breakfast. The small piano room and "office" room are also downstairs. The house is not conducive to communal activities - it is what it is. Room 7 is adjacent to breakfast room. In fact two auxiliary doors, including a door in the bathroom are immediate to breakfast. I'm not so concerned I could make out conversations during the other breakfast time (there are two sittings), I'm more concerned they could hear what was happening on my side of the door :). And yes, the house limits guests from not having one communal breakfast. There is an 8 AM and 9 AM sitting. The Inn is an easy walk to Bear Neck and all the shops. The area is lovely and so are the shopkeepers. I love to give my business to these people rather than some corporate chain. If there's a show at Gloucester Stage or Shalin Lui, I'd make a long weekend and stay here for sure.

Patty was very easy to work with on the scheduling and was very responsive to my questions. We ended up renting both of their rooms. They have one in their home on the 2nd floor with a queen-sized bed with a separate bathroom and small sitting room (that has a refrigerator, breakfast table/chairs, coffee maker, toaster, etc). This room has it's own entrance and separate locking door for privacy. The other room is a studio apartment with a queen-sized bed, bathroom, small kitchen (same as the other room plus a sink & range). Both rooms had a tasty breakfast awaiting us (fresh local bread, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, etc). We had lots of privacy and an overall great experience, highly recommended to others looking for an affordable alternative to the overpriced hotels in the area.

We chose the Dragonfly because we had a wedding to attend at an Inn down the street. Plus, I have…read morean affinity for dragonflies....so the name called to me. When we drove up to the property we were kindof surprised......there is not a sign for the "Inn" at all. The property is basically a private house in a nice neighborhood in Gloucester. Patty was working in the yard, as we had called her to tell her about when we would arrive. The yard and inside of the house were both clean and welcoming. We had the room upstairs with the private bath. The bedroom was very small, but bright, clean and the bed was comfortable. Loved the bright, airy bathroom with the jet tub. The only negative about the bathroom.....each time I used the shower or tub the water was only lukewarm. The little eating "galley kitchen" area was very very small. The table and chairs were an iron garden type set. My husband, being a big guy at 6'3..... could in no way fit comfortably in that space. There was a coffee pot ready to go for the morning which was nice, and a small college sized fridge and toaster. The foods available were English muffins with butter, fruit, yogurt and small boxes of cereal with milk. OJ and bottles of water. So, even though the website said continental breakfast ....it was very minimal with not a lot of choices. And the space was so small...we just ended up going to out breakfast each morning. The other thing that we did not really like was that we were never really shown around the house or told which parts of the noise we could go into. Maybe because we were not allowedto do that. From what it looked like to us, this was a family home, with rooms that were being rented out...more like a guest house situation....but we seriously question if the place should be advertised as an "Inn." We felt, with the little breakfast area tucked up on the second floor, right next to our room, that we were supposed to stay In only that area of the house. There was a large living room to the left when you came in the downstairs door, and we never saw anyone in there, but we got the impression this was the family living room. We heard people in the home, but never saw anyone, except what may have been family or friends coming in and out the front door. You should also know that they have a dog, who we did see upon coming in the door several times, and we also saw him sleeping on the couch in the living room. He did not come upstairs as a far as we knew. Patty also does not accept credit card payments...so you need cash or a check. Overall, we felt it was sort of an odd set up.....as far as the space and the fact we felt we needed to stay our room. Minimal breakfast. This definantely should not be advertised as an "Inn." However, for our two days we slept in a comfortable, clean, quiet place that does have it down unique charm. Soft sheets and soft comfy towels with lots of body products in the bathroom. Patty left us a bottle of wine which was a really nice touch. I don't mean to give a negative review...as it was not a bad experience, just not quite what we expected. Would have liked an actual breakfast room area and more of a feeling of freedom in the house. We really felt like we were intruding on a family home. If you are looking for an affordable, safe, clean place to rest your head this is it. The area is expensive and this was an affordable option for us. If you are looking for a true "inn" experience with choices at breakfast and room to spread around, this may not be it.
