The owner, the chef and the wait staff are exceptional. Locals who have the gift of hospitality. We attended a wedding and I would rate the food and service 5-stars. The knock is that we stayed four more nights. That part was 2-stars. The reason -- motel rooms were way more expensive than the meager amenities and spartan conditions we experienced. Some wall outlets work. Shower is good. If it were $150/night less costly it would have been a good deal. Definitely won't stay there again. Definitely will attend another wedding there. read more

We knew we were staying in the roadside motel portion, so our expectations were tempered. (The house itself looked beautiful and inviting but they don't seem to accommodate children since there's a max guest occupancy limit of 2 humans per room.) We arrived before dusk, and got checked into our room without issue by a friendly man inside the main house. The motel has been updated from some of the ghastly photos available in older reviews, fortunately! You can still clearly tell it's a very old motel, but they've put in the effort to remodel it to some extent. The furniture is new, and there's laminate flooring. It smelled clean. Fresh coat of paint on the walls. A new shower! The view from our room was pretty. I wish I'd taken photos of the room upon arrival. There's still a lot to be desired, though. The shower leaked incessantly and couldn't be fully shut off; there's probably some trick to it that we weren't aware of. The shower floor tiles had some dark mold in the grout, likely as a result of constant water. The shower exhaust fan would randomly get *extremely loud* every few minutes. Our room heater wouldn't turn on, so the maintenance man had to come by after dark to relight the pilot light; luckily he came pretty quickly and was friendly. The heater has a warning label on it that it gets very hot to the touch, which had me nervous the entire time for our small children. We had to arrange things in front of it to deter our kids from getting close to it. This is something people with young children should be aware of! There was also a plywood bench in the closet area right at the room entry that had exposed staples... There weren't fitted sheets on either bed- just top sheets (with some stains!) draped across the mattresses. There were mattress covers fortunately, but those need replacing. We would ONLY return here if able to book a room in the main house. I wouldn't stay in the motel portion again. read more

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. Experience was phenomenal! The Ladybird room was clean and cozy and tucked away on the third floor. During my last day, I was trying to figure out how to get to the airport. Our flight left at 6:30am and Uber/Lyft/Cab services were hard to find for that time. When I went to the front desk, one of the employees happened to overhear my conversation and graciously offered to take us to the airport. Service here is above and beyond and I will definitely be returning. read more

We walked into the Manor on Wednesday at 3:45 and we were nearly knocked over by the smell of weed inside the building. You know, pot, marijane, reefer. I don't care if you smoke weed but I certainly don't want to smell it at the place I am spending a small fortune on to stay at. Non-smoking building....right? Very very unprofessional. "How do you know?" you ask???? We are sure of it because I was thinking it and my husband turned around (in front of the woman checking us in) and made a "toking" gesture and I was like....yes!!! I smell it too. Anyway, nice building to look at. Make sure you're strong because trying to open and close the pocket doors takes some serious muscle. Thank God my husband could open and close the room door and the bathroom door for me. No water in the room, no refrigerator in the room. I sleep with cold water next to my bed each night. Soooo we could have bought an ice chest and water and lugged it up the staircase in this expensive Inn. LOL.. Nope, no coffee , no tea anywhere and not much of anything in the room. Uncomfortable pillows. When we asked about the restaurant downstairs we were told they only served breakfast (not included with the exorbitant price of the room). We went into town. We had a lovely dinner. We went back to the inn, packed up our suitcases, left the key in the basket (because oh...NO ONE on duty past 6pm) and drove back to the Cape. What a shame. read more

We stayed in the motor lodge area for a girls trip. The beds were big enough for all four of us luckily the room next door was also available for two of the three nights. It was conjoined by a hallway between room 13 and 14. Which is kind of weird if you don't have both rooms. The gentleman who runs the place was nice but he refused to give us extra blankets on the third night when we didn't have the additional room. Also the door to the supply area was open with all of the sheets and towels. It was a motor Lodge for sure with great access to the train. This is a great little area and the view from our rooms was absolutely beautiful. The heater was also a problem, it was either on full blast or off and when you're there in October you want the heater on sometimes. read more

My husband and I just enjoyed a delicious breakfast on their patio overlooking the marsh. Even though this Inn is right on a busy street, it was quiet and peaceful. We both enjoyed our meals very much: the breakfast potatoes are served with caramelized onions and they were outstanding. The waitress also mentioned the chef's hollandaise sauce was fantastic, so we are excited to come back here and try more things! read more

Lovely old place...with numerous issues. 1) Safety first. The electrical system is very sketchy. While looking for a place to plug in my phone charger, I found improper extension cords in use, including wrong gages and grounding-prongs removed. 2) Noise! Reception one night. Barking dog in a car outside our window. Lawn care at neighbor's early on Saturday morning. Dumping hundreds of bottles into a bin outside our window late at night. 3) Shared closet (with no rod...just a few hooks). Interesting way to meet fellow guests! 4) No room service (cleaning, linens, trash), even though we were there three nights. 5) We were chilly one night. I went down and asked for a blanket. Two hours later, I had to go ask again. 6) When I asked for more towels, someone brought them up fairly promptly...but they used their key to walk right in without knocking! Really? 7) We left a purse in the room when we checked out. Within a few hours, they called to say they found it (and our car keys inside). They said they would send it to us...no charge. A week later I called, and they had not sent it yet b/c they needed my name. Really? Another week goes by, and they called to say they changed their mind and needed a credit card number for the shipping. Finally received it 19 days after we checked out. Beautiful place for a reception, but not a good place to stay! read more

With Proof in hand, they basically called her a liar and refused to honor her reservation. They belittled her and made her feel horrible. I spent the weekend at this beautiful inn in Gloucester for a wedding this past weekend as part of the bridal party. The innkeepers were fantastic in setting up the wedding to go perfectly, all planned down to a T, and even with a terrible noreaster they kept the wedding going on time and without too much confusion. The rooms were a little dated, but cute and cozy during the storm. Bathroom was cute but small, and the bed was on the hard side, though I slept fine. For the friendly and helpful service this place earns a 4 in my book! read more

During this Covid year we ended up here as the owner, Laura started accommodating "Pop-Up" weddings as our previous venue did not work out. Laura and her staff were amazing to work with planning this in 8 weeks taking into consideration the ever changing state guidelines for out door weddings. Fast forward to 8.23.20...Ceremony, cocktail hour tastefully set up outside and then a powerful storm moved in knocking out power for the night! There was no generator in this 1800's manor so Dan the executive Chef reacted quickly and cooked all the food for our 47 guests with propane and Sterno's. The result was piping hot Haddock, Chicken and steak-tips for all to enjoy! No music from the DJ so we broke out Bluetooth speakers and candlelight for entertainment in the back tent. A few guests had some issues with the mattresses and wish there were refrigerators in the rooms but for the most part everyone had an enjoyable stay and even some after hours fun!! When we called to make reservations for the Victorian rooms, we were told it is a non refundable rate that had to be paid upfront. So we made the reservation over the phone with Kim.There were pictures of the rooms, gourmet meals, etc. The website indicated there was a restaurant called the Seagrass Restaurant and the public could make reservations. Upon arrival we were shocked to see how rundown the Inn was and also learned there was a motor lodge. We were told there were no rooms in the Inn so they were putting us on the motor lodge. When we pulled in upon arrival we parked near one of the motor inns. They looked so small and the window was a peep window. We said the accommodations were unacceptable. We were told that this happens all the time where people are mad. We were on a girls trip so there were 4 of us. We felt like we were taken advantage of since it was a NON-REFUNDABLE rate. We asked to speak to the manager and he originally didn't really care about our issues so we demanded to speak with the owner. One of the girls that welcomed us said that the owner hasn't been around in quite a while. When the manager checked the reservation he said we booked the reservation on expedia.com which was not true. We had the name of the lady that made the reservation. So that began the next issue because we wanted a refund! Well hocus pocus, somehow the owner showed up while we were looking at the room where we would stay. He didn't meet us face-to-face, he only met with the manager. Again, we were furious that the owner did not meet with us to resolve our issues. We demanded that we speak with him and were given his phone #. He said he would have to go back to office to look up our reservation. We told him that his office said we booked through expedia.com, which we hadn't but his focus was on how he didn't get paid by expedia for about 60 days. He did say if we were to get a refund, he asked that we did not give the Castle Manor Inn a bad review! There was no guarantee that a refund would be given. We were offered another room on the other side of the inn where we were assured there was a larger window. This motor lodge was 2 story. We were taken to a room at the back below the front rooms. It overlooked a wetlands with 3 large wind turbines. The room was ok. There were new beds, flooring, and new furniture. The bathroom was small with no room to put your toiletries. The shower could have had mold underneath the insert because it was really mushy and uneven to stand on. The toilet and sink were running all the time. We decided to stay because it was late in the day and since it was fall foliage tourists other accommodations were minimal. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and no one on the property after 8 p.m. Our toilet broke around 11 p.m. so we called their phone # and left a message with hopes of getting the toilet fixed. The best part of the stay was Dan, the manager/chef/maintenance/security! After we decided to stay, he was our hero. He brought us extra towels, etc. The TV was brand new so he had to get that started for us. He gave us great recommendations for dinner, since there was no restaurant as advertised! I was surprised that the message we left about the toilet was answered and Dan (the toilet man) came to our rescue from the other side of town where he lived! Dan deserves a raise!!!!! He was able to calm the situation down with his great personality. I would not recommend staying at the Castle Manor Inn unless you want to camp out! read more

I was in Rockport for a show and stayed at the Castle Manor last night. I had booked two rooms in the annex portion. Very simple, the rooms were spotless, the beds were like sleeping on a cloud, there was no shortage of hot water, the women who greeted us when we arrived could not have been any nicer. This mornings breakfast was excellent, the potato's had some sort of a seasoning on them that made them worth driving up just for breakfast. The Shalin Lou Performance Center is a beautiful small venue, hosting a very exciting mix of performers. Online it looked very cute and quaint. We were hoping to stay in what looked like a Victorian home. It's always risky when booking from out of town, but we gave it a shot. Little did I know that there is a Bates motel on the grounds of this cute Victorian looking home on the property, and that is where we were booked. When we walked in we were greeted by a swarm of mosquitos, spiderwebs and a dozen spiders or so, 2 grasshoppers, 3 silverfish, flies and random bugs. Quickly noticed what appeared to be blood stains in the door and bedding. The bathroom floor was moldy and the hair dryer was sporting a dirty bandaid. Hairs were all over the bathroom (clearly not ours) when we arrived, despite them having a COVID cleaning protocol. Needless to say we would never stay here again. read more

Attended for a wedding, booked the handicapped room for my mother who is wheelchair bound, they said they were handicap accessible. When we arrived the "handicapped" room had 3 steps to get into it and door was too small to fit a wheelchair. Went to speak with front desk about this and he stated that was the handicapped room because it has bars and told me when we booked our room I stated that my mom was able to walk, which I would not have because she cannot, then continued to be rude. Doesn't matter how far ahead you've booked AND paid for these reservations. Now my wife and her sister are in Massachusetts, without a place to stay. No apologies, no we'll do what we can to help you, no accommodating at all. There is ZERO customer service. Any legitimate honest negative feedback is met with being blocked on social media. If this is any indication of how this place is run, definitely would steer clear. I've measured, now I'm cutting. This is despicable and inexcusable. read more

What a pleasant surprise!!! We walked from our condos next door and had a fabulous dinner! It was such a pretty setting, we were able to sit outside on the back deck because of the beautiful weather. It was the first time being out to dine in so long following the pandemic, and we were met with a great staff to welcome and serve us. We had drinks and apps to start. Both the eggplant and the scallops were excellent! We then both had seafood dishes, and I'll have to say it was the best I've had of all the restaurants I've been to in Gloucester so far. Stayed in the Motel part of this place the weekend of the 4th for one night. The shower was terrible, there was a nasty musty smell in the room, the air conditioner Filter was filthy and the "change filter" light was on, found long hair in both beds, the walls and ceiling were paper thin and you could hear everything. The people 4 rooms over and above us had their 90 LB Husky barking, yelping and howling trying to jump over the balcony at 7AM (this went on for OVER an hour). The people right above us woke up at 7:15AM and it sounded like they were rearanging the room by banging things and dragging furniture back and forth for almost 2 hours. We addressed these issues at Checkout before we left, but not sure if it did any good. The front desk staff were very nice and seemed concerned, and were very leanient on checkout (Thank God because we got ZERO sleep after getting back late from the fireworks). It was in a peaceful, quiet, pretty location. BUT, for $200 a NIGHT, that wasn't in close Walking distance to much, we were expecting a better stay. read more

Our microwedding in September 2021 was absolutely amazing. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue. Laura and her staff were incredible. We had 18 people total, including bride, groom, and officiant. Gazebo ceremony with reception on the deck. We brought hair and makeup artists into the bridal suite and had plenty of space for getting ready. Everything was beautiful, food was outstanding, and cost was very reasonable. Laura was easily reachable throughout the planning process and she was present the entire day of the wedding. She genuinely cared about our wedding, made sure everything went smoothly, and saved the day when it came to bustling the dress. Our guests enjoyed spending the night after the wedding. Rooms were clean, charming, and cozy. Would highly recommend this venue! read more

Bait and switch operation. They get you to book on booking sites then they tell you your room is in a seperate dump of a motor lodge.

The building is beautiful, the staff wonderful and we had a lovely room and view. The room furnishings were clean but outdated and the bed was not comfortable. As noted in other reviews, lots of events here. A wedding in the back and a birthday party on the front lawn when we were there so it was pretty noisy until quite late. Luckily the AC worked great and had a pleasant drone that drowned out most of it. Great event hotel, but we were looking for something quiet and quaint for a single night as we travelled down the coast. Area has a lot to offer and I would use this hotel for an event in a heartbeat. read more

I saw the raving reviews, wanted to spend a few days near Rockport, and they gave a AAA discount, so I booked a room for 2 guests and 2 nights. Wow. Bad idea. Rooms were much smaller than pictured, the cable tv provided is straight out of the 90's and had NO audio, bed was firm which some people may like but it just messed up my back. Not to mention the headboard on said bed knocks about up on the wall with every movement. Near a railroad, so you'll hear the train at all hours. Walls are rather thin and you can hear most noise that goes on around you. Also, no outlets? Or rather, there ARE outlets, but they're ALL being used so don't expect to be able charge any phones, gps, laptops, ect, unless you start unplugging things. They do provide air conditioning but it couldn't get much louder! It drowns out the neighbors and trains for sure. I guess it's a plus that they provide rather good wifi, since we couldn't use the TV and had to watch netflix off our laptops. From the description on the AAA website there was supposed to be a "seating area", since when does a seating area mean one lone chair in the corner of the room? We did get a private terrace with our room, but the paint was coming off, I walked out there barefoot and came back with paint chips stuck on my feet every time. Staff was really nice though. It's a shame, I was hoping to love this place. Considering I've paid much less for a way better place to stay. read more

My fiancé and I were visiting his family in Gloucester and stayed at the Inn for a night. We weren't sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised by how charming the Castle Manor Inn was! It was also very reasonable (although it is off-peak season) at only $110 for the night! The room itself was very clean and we loved the personal touches-- when we arrived back in for the night, they had turned down our blankets and left cookies out for us (they were delicious!!!). We ate breakfast at the sea glass restaurant which was also very reasonable-- I had the steel cut oats with all the fixings which was standard, but very good and a side of french toast and My fiancé had the full-sized portion of French toast. I must admit, the French toast was delicious! It had the perfect amount of cinnamon and sugar and nutmeg, along with being crunchy on the edges while still maintaining the moist, fluffy inside (not soggy at all which is very important in my book)! For all of our food and coffees our breakfast was only about 20 dollars! We will definitely be returning to stay the next time we are visiting in Gloucester! read more

I can't speak for the Inn portion of the hotel because I stayed in the motor inn portion. The Inn and Motor Inn both looked very nice from the outside and the grounds were very pretty. However I stayed in the Motor Inn portion of the hotel and I wouldn't recommend it. The beds were uncomfortable, the room was small and dimly lit, the ac wasn't very effective, there was mold in the bathroom on the shower curtain and in the shower itself and on the ceiling near the window, I had to pay $10 for a mini fridge and it was so small that I could barely fit anything in it. The people in the hotel were weird about giving us extra toilet paper for some reason and overall the room just wasn't worth $200 read more
