First, you gotta be ready for something a bit different. Quirky, I believe, was used in a previous…read morereview, and the word fits. Location is fabulous. We had a view from the second floor across the street to Gloucester Bay and the famous mariners statue. Downtown is a short walk in one direction, and the bridge that is seen on Wicked Tuna a short walk in the opposite direction. There is a fabulous waterfront park a short distance away with beautiful views for a hike. We did not use our car during the visit. Since they had availability, we were taken on a tour and were able to choose our room. Everything was in working order, with the room very large and comfortable. We stayed over Wednesday night and the evening "sing was directly below our room. I was reminded for some reason to call and catch up with my sweat lodge hippy quaker sister and see how she was doing (just fine thanks). I am sure it was our imagination, but the following morning we heard something scurrying across the roof. My wide asked if I thought it was the famous muffin bunny. I checked the door, and there was the muffin basket. We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn, and in Gloucester. If you visit the Inn, and are staying on the second floor, pack light as the stairway is a bit steep.

Rooms are charming. Lots of exposed beams, old-fashioned bed with a very firm mattress. The window A/C are plenty cool enough, and we were there during a super hot & humid week. The location is perfect. Across from the harbor, very very close to a beach where you can swim, and you can head right to the walkable downtown area.

Where to start? Arrived very late on Friday and a note with…read moreour room key was left for us. We had arrange for this bc we knew that the drive from NY to Rockport would be long since we left during rush hour. The room was exactly like the picture. so cozy and clean! beautifully decorated, beautiful bedding and a wonderful little bathroom. There was a sign up sheet for 8 am or 9am breakfast. Yes early, SO WELL WORTH IT. THe only slot left was for 8:00 am and we are so glad we had the opportunity to meet great people and have an amazing breakfast! We were served endless cups of coffee, fruit, a smoothie, an amazing sweet bread and then a crazy delicious breakfast! Waking up early helped us get on with our day. If you do not wish to wake up early and have this great meal but some very friendly folks, theres a Dunkin Donuts not to far from the Inn. But you'd be crazy to go there or complain about the breakfast times! The Inn Keepers are such friendly and beautiful people. This was our first time in Rockport and they gave us helpful tips and suggestions. First time ever at a Bed and Breakfast and I'm so happy I found the Seven South Street Inn. I have nothing negative to say about the Inn.

Fruit, coffee cake or a pastry, a smoothie in a champagne type glass and then the main course - whether it is an egg Benedict Oscar or french toast made from Portuguese sweet bread. Excellent coffee too - which is not a small thing. We had room 7 - which is on the first floor and facing street. I wish there was a front porch - that would be excellent. It is large with the bedroom separate from the sitting room. Which was good to buffer my swearing and crying when the Yankees lost to the Astros in Game 6. My only deductions are really House based and not based on anything that occurred. The communal area is basically the 10 seat table in a room that requires negotiation to navigate around when full during breakfast. The small piano room and "office" room are also downstairs. The house is not conducive to communal activities - it is what it is. Room 7 is adjacent to breakfast room. In fact two auxiliary doors, including a door in the bathroom are immediate to breakfast. I'm not so concerned I could make out conversations during the other breakfast time (there are two sittings), I'm more concerned they could hear what was happening on my side of the door :). And yes, the house limits guests from not having one communal breakfast. There is an 8 AM and 9 AM sitting. The Inn is an easy walk to Bear Neck and all the shops. The area is lovely and so are the shopkeepers. I love to give my business to these people rather than some corporate chain. If there's a show at Gloucester Stage or Shalin Lui, I'd make a long weekend and stay here for sure.

A bad nor'easter was forecast with AAA warning against driving and some east coast governors warning against being on the roads. I'm 69 and a lung cancer survivor so I tend to err on the side of safety. I emailed the Inn and asked if my booking could be transferred to the Tuesday of the following week, or the Monday of the week after that. I still work so my bookings depend on when I have time, and too, I was careful to keep it near a similar day to what I had booked. Even though it is low season I wanted to be sure to not inconvenience the Inn. I was met with arrogance and a "sure everyone wants good weather" response, which was flabbergasting. They suggested I come the following day - still high winds and lashing rain - and if not I would forfeit the money I paid close to $400. I was stupefied by their response and will ensure that I warn everyone of this place of bad manners and poor business nous.

I was in the Teller room, one of the smaller ones on the third floor, and it was so cozy and comfortable! The bathrooms are on the smaller side, but still very manageable, and the whole place is air conditioned during the Summer. The breakfast is amazing and you get a whole bunch of different options, on top of lemonade, iced tea, and cookies served throughout the day. The real special times are before and after the estate opens for the day, because you really feel like you have the place to yourself. I walked up to the mansion for sunset, and it was stunning! They can also help get you booked on guided house or kayak tours, and you get free access to Crane Beach with towels and tote bags! If you're looking for a peaceful coastal getaway, this is the place!
