While we were there our guide showed up and introduced himself. He asked if we had any previous experience and talked about various locations, their conditions and where he thought we could go fish. Since our casting is far from professional and current conditions of the rivers were high and fast, we opted for a lake. We came with rods, waders, boots, snacks, but I left my reels in my truck at the store! Thank god , Brad (our guide had back ups! He got us all set up and we set out, talking about the conditions and what to expect. ( like rattlesnakes) what your step! It was a very educational experience, and we all caught some nice trout! We booked Monster Lake Ranch for my daughter's wedding. Despite having over four months notice they…read moreweren't ready for us. We weren't able to set up for the wedding until a few hours before and that was because they didn't have anything ready. We had to clean the place before setting up because nothing had been cleaned. They had my deposit for over four months and I paid the entire balance 30 days before the wedding and yet they still did NOT have the place ready even though I was assured it would be. Because we had to do all of the cleaning and then the setting up I missed out on being present while my daughter got ready. I didn't get to help her into her dress. I didn't get to make memories or take pictures. I was robbed out of many things that day. Also, family stayed on the property and paid full price despite dirty rooms that were t even ready to be checked into until late evening and no hot water the next day. The website promises available breakfast and yet there was no breakfast and the restaurant was closed. They were told it was seasonal; the website says NOTHING about being seasonal. For the first 3 months after booking the ranch for the wedding, I could NOT get anyone to communicate with me. Many emails went unanswered as well as voicemails. When the one and I guess only staff member did finally communicate with me it was to tell me that an entire crew was getting the event center ready. Well that turned out to be one of many lies to come!!!! Nothing was ever done to get the place ready until we did it ourselves, the day of the wedding!!!! Also, we booked the "event center " sight unseen and was promised pictures on many occasions. Never once got any pictures. Then when we finally get there and are taken to the "event center," it turns out to be a huge garage, with no heat or running water. The bathroom facilities were several yards away and if turns out they were dirty and didn't have any towels to wipe hands on. We were out and out lied to many times and I will NEVER recommend this place, at least not with the current staff!!!!!!!

We evaluated over 100 ranches and determined that we were interested in a full service guest ranch close to Yellowstone National Park. We then narrowed our list down to three and Crossed Sabres came out on top. Our phone conversation with Owner Kenny Long sealed the decision for us. Our trip was everything we had hoped it would be and more. We rode horses into the surrounding Absoroka Mountains every day, we did a full day tour of Yellowstone, we learned how to fly fish and how to squared dance, we shot skeet, and I white-water rafted. We even traveled into Cody one evening for the rodeo. All of that was awesome. But it was the people who made it special. Kenny, Laura, and Garrett Long do a great job with their ranch and they have a wonderful crew of wranglers and staff that made our stay so enjoyable. The food and the service was top notch. The other guests were amazing and we made some great friends. It was without a doubt one of our best vacations ever! We highly recommend Crossed Sabres Ranch!!!

We met some lovely people, rode our…read morepersonal assigned horses for the week to our heart's content, tried fly fishing for the first time which was unbelievably cool, ate very well all week and had comfortable sleeping accommodations. What sets this ranch apart from others I have been to Is the variety of activities available both on the ranch and off . We loved the all inclusive nature of unlimited horse back riding, fly fishing . BB gun shooting , hiking , and down time just playing games ( fooseball , Pool, chess etc) at the ranch. We equally enjoyed all the included outings off site - the full day trip to Yellowstone, an afternoon of white water rafting, rodeo in Cody. Loved the variety of riding trails and customization of each ride to each riders level. Ranch is small enough that our kids could explore and meander about with little supervision. The independence they were given at the ranch can't be duplicated in our big urban city and was a priceless experience for them to have. Amazingly refreshing for the whole family to be in a place where there is no cell / internet service ( except for in an emergency situation - it's available in the lodge but none of the guests seemed to use it ). We unplugged and bonded, read, relaxed, took part in everything and enjoyed our week at the ranch immensely. Tips: bring a warm parka jacket ( was cold even mid June), despite the forecast saying it was a high of 70, most days felt very cold in the mornings warming up by late afternoon, bring a raincoat, bring a long sleeve swim shirt and or other fast drying clothes for the rafting trip ( you will get wet). Bring a cute western outfit or 2 for the square dance night and final dinner. Come with a good, down to earth attitude ( this isn't the four seasons) and be ready to mingle- this is a very social place. Be aware the overall staff employed is young and inexperienced and green ( many 18-20 years old) so you might not have a typical 5 star service experience at all time. For the most part though. the staff was kind and friendly and accommodating. Additional shout outs to Jayden ( aka skippy) who DOES provide a five star service experience with every interaction and Garett who my kids loved playing pool and bags with and Mary whose food was consistently very good. Overall, a big 5 star experience and memories made that will last a lifetime for us and our children. Highly recommend!!!

Their policy stated a no pet policy; however, our animals were licensed service animals. We did call before hand and left several voice-mails to verify that the ranch excepted service animals but never got a call back. The ADA policy about accommodating service animals for indviduals with disability, we felt confident without any confirmation from the ranch that they would honor our reservation. Upon arrival we didn't even get a hello, but an aggressive "Nope! I seen you have dogs and we don't allow pets!" I response was that we have service animals and I even have handicap plates as I'm a Disabled Veteran and traveling with my parents, my mother suffers from panic attacks and she holds on to her dog for comfort. After leaving a review and looking into our refund since we were turned away. They didnt refund our money and they responsed that we were trying to hide the dogs because my mom had her service dog wrapped in a jacket, because it was literally snowing. Only good thing I can say is they helped send us to Yellowstone Valley Inn that actually abides by the ADA and I suggest everyone stop at Yellowstone Valley Inn it was more welcoming and understanding.

Out party of three had no problem with the change. The guides were Royce (guide) Clayton (wrangler) and Kate (cook). I will say up front that they are the best. Very confident, knowledgeable and friendly. We had a medical issue come up with one of the other guest on day four that they handled expertly. This issue resulted in another change of route but again my party had no issues with the change.Kate needs special recognition as one fine trail cook. The meals she was able to prepare were excellent ranging from biscuits and gravy to eggs, bacon and potatoes for breakfast to the best steak I've had in my many visits to Cody to chili, spaghetti and pork loins for supper. She's the best. As for the actual ride itself, well all I can say is that I thought I'd be a lot more sore but in reality didn't feel bad once I was off the horse at the end of the day. Couple of notes, the altitude can play hell with your stamina if you're not acclimated, if you're shy about stripping down and bathing in a cold stream then bring lots of personal wipes. Make sure your sleeping bag is rated appropriately. I used a surplus Army two piece system that was perfect. Drink a lot of water throughout the day, don't wait til you're thirsty to hydrate. Trout fishing at the campsites was pretty good for those that fish. If you want a week long experience that will be the envy of your friends then you need to book this trip, remain flexible with any unforeseen changes and go enjoy the scenery.
