There's a second story to this place, I don't think there's an elevator available. One of my favorite things about this store are the displays- in the window and on the sales floor, they have little camping scenes set up, where they're highlighting their gear or clothing. The week we were in town, every day was in the mid 90s temperature wise. Beartooth has a significant change in elevation, so as you drive, the temperature continues to drop. When we hit the Summit, it was actually quite chilly! This drive is amazing - there is something new to see around every bend! You can definitely see why they close it during the winter, as it can be very nerve-racking at times, but it was worth every minute of the drive. Absolutely make sure you do it at least once in your lifetime!

The visitor center has a relief map of Bighorn Canyon and the surrounding areas which is cool to look at. There's also some geological, historical and photo exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the area. There's even a sign about "What's that smell?" in the area, which I definitely had wondered about driving through the town. The smell in question was the sugar beet processing! I had seen trucks of what I now know are sugar beets and the kind of sweet, earthy aroma in the air. We hiked the Sullivan's Knob Trail which was a quick easy hike, while the Upper Layout Creek Trail was tough! You can technically drive a bit on the dirt road for the latter, but you definitely need a high clearance vehicle because there are deep ruts. We also saw some of the wild Pryor Mountain Wild Horses on the side of the rod while driving, so drive slowly!

One of the ducky boats our group rented ripped at the beginning of the ride. Not sure why it happened because we were following the guide. When we asked if we could get a refund for the two people who were in the ripped ducky, since they weren't all able to enjoy the ride and only got through 5 min of it, we were told no and that if anything we should be paying for the damage. I don't think that was fair of the owner to say something like that and to not even offer a refund or another ride.

We notified the guide and he just said for them to pull off and get out on the trail and kept going, he didn't stop or anything to make sure they at least got out safely. I couldn't even enjoy most of the ride worried for my friends. When we finally got out of the water and found the girls, Mike (I assume the owner) didn't even see if they were ok but was pissed and made a comment about how they just ruined a $3000 boat. Again it wasn't their fault that it ripped and on top of that they had to sit out by the road without their shoes phones or anything (we left everything in the van) for 2 hours while we were rafting. When we went to ask if they could get a refund because they absolutely did not get the experience they paid for and Mike told us That not only will we not get a refund but we may have to pay for the boat that ripped, very unprofessional, very upset with this experience! This place was definitely a highlight for me when I visited Yellowstone National Park. Lamar Valley…read moreand Hayden Valley are the best places to see populations of large animals. Its valleys are very wide and make excellent habitat for wildlife. Lamar Valley is known as America's Serengeti. Some animals you may encounter here are bison, wolves, moose, grizzly bears, elk and a variety of birds. I drove the long drive to Lamar Valley from Mammoth Hot Springs. Lamar Valley is not part of the Grand loop drive of Yellowstone. It branches off from the northeast part of the loop. Once you reach Tower/Roosevelt Service Station, you turn onto on Northeast Entrance Road. You can then take your time observing wildlife along the way. You will see the Lamar River right next to the road as you are driving. It's about a 30 mile drive on NE Entrance Rd to the Northeast entrance. You will usually see cars parked at pullouts when there is a group of animals nearby. They ask you to not stop in the middle of the road unless wildlife is crossing the street (only stop at pullouts). The best time to photograph Lamar Valley is at dawn or dusk. I spent a whole evening driving through here and got some great shots. I had a cool moment when I pulled over and a bison passed in front of my car. I was able to get some close-up photos of it. I also drove to Slough Creek because I heard you can usually spot wolves there in the evening. I didn't see any, but could hear them howling in the distance. I can't tell you how beautiful this valley is. In addition to the wildlife I saw, I enjoyed watching the sunset. This is definitely a great place to go if you want to slow your life down and take in some beautiful nature.

The Legend Rock petroglyphs are about 30 miles northwest of Thermopolis. On Highway 120, drive for…read morealmost 22 miles until you reach the brown sign indicating the left turn to the petroglyphs. A smooth dirt road leading to a left turn at Legend Rock Road will take you to the small one-room interpretive center and parking area. From there, it's a short walk to the line of petroglyphs -- supposedly, almost 300 -- that are easy to find, especially with the help of the numbered markers. The age of the images, in the Dinwoody style reflecting the Big Horn and Wind River geographic areas, range from 100 years old to about 11,000 years old. There are many large images that are quite distinct and vibrant. It's easy to capture photos of your favorites. If you're in the Thermopolis or Cody area, detour here for some great unexpected surprises.
