This is such a super cute name, I think it's a really sweet. Amo Torta specialises in gluten/wheat free baking and are based in Glasgow. You can order their cakes for delivery or pop into Roots & Fruits who are stocking some. We sampled some cupcakes, millionaire shortbread as well as lemon poppyseed cake. What a beautiful feast for the eyes these were, especially those cupcakes. The decoration reminded me of being a kid again as I used to think those silver decorative balls were the height of sophistication when I was about 7. There was also pieces of something I think was jewelled sugar which looked great. The cupcake based itself was plain with the delicious pink vanilla-flavoured icing. I don't think to a non-gluten free eater that you'd know they were GF, they had the perfect flavour and consistency for a cupcake. The millionaire shortbread was another treat which didn't lose any flavour for being GF. Topped with chocolate and caramel these are really decadent and best consumed with a cup of tea! My favourite though was the lemon poppyseed cake - moist and with delicious lemon icing with a tangy punch, this is my kind of dessert. They also do dairy free and some low sugar cakes (will definitely get those next time!) as well as celebration cakes. With great communication and tasty cakes, I would definitely order a cake or cupcakes next time I'm having people over so we can all enjoy dessert!

During this transaction, I interacted with two staff members independently of the other & I was blown away with how genuine and matter of fact these women are. As a West Ender it is sometimes easy to become jaded to certain businesses on my own doorstep. As such I wish I had an excuse to use this quality bakery more often & I really rate it & value it as part of the local community. The staff was super friendly and made our visit even more enjoyable. We purchased a few bars, cookies, hand pies and some scones. The prices were very reasonable. Every item was super fresh and extremely tasty. The cream filling in the pies was super creamy and rich. The filled cookies were amazing and I wished that I had more. The bars were irresistible and loaded with fresh fruits.

I dragged Stu out of his festering pit and we made our way to Grant's the Bakers. I had passed it several times while sprinting for the train and the smell emanating from the bakery almost caused me to forget all about the train and go and live in there. Hot rolls and hot drinks are available to take away at very reasonable prices. At 10.30 on a Sunday, the queue was out the door and spilling untidily onto the street. Builders, locals and hungover tramps waited patiently in front of the cake filled counter and sizzling hotplate of over-processed meats. The smell was fantastic. Thanks to the two wee wummin behind the counter the queue moved quickly. We bought 6 totty scones and hastened home to fry them! They were big, misshapen and had an almost meaty bite to them. This makes them high up there in my Totty Scone Hall of Fame. Yes, I do actually have a Totty Scone Hall of Fame. I am rather a freak, I do fear. Next time I think I'll go for an iced donut.

I first met Rachel at the BBC Good Food Show, where she showed me how to pipe icing properly. When I heard she was opening up, I couldn't have been more excited. Even more so when I found out just how close it was to me. (So much so I have been for the past 2 Saturdays and am most likely going twice this weekend...) This is a bakery, selling cake, cupcakes, tray bakes, teas, coffees and soft drinks. There are a variety of gluten free options available. The bakery is through the back, so the place smells of cake permanently. I've sampled both the red velvet and salted caramel cupcakes. The red velvet was gorgeous, although I loved the salted caramel cupcake more. The centre was filled with ooey gooey caramel. The tea was better than the coffee, coming in individual gorgeous glass teapots. A cup of earl grey is the perfect accompaniment to a piece of cake. I love the quirky antique sets that everything gets served in. Rachel also does custom cakes and cupcakes for all occasions, ranging from weddings, birthdays to graduations. Pies, rolls, cakes, scones, etc and they make birthday and wedding cakes to order. The same ladies have worked there since I was little and they are all very helpful. The shop is spotless. I think anyone who uses this shop has their favourite things. Mine are onion pies and the samll apple pies that they sell. I am also partial to a bit of domino cake. I could talk about this place all day. Highly recommended!!!
