    a delicious treat!
    Carolyn M.

I really need to stay away from this shop, it's way too addicting, but so worth it in the end! Long week almost over, I decided to stop in on my way home to treat my boyfriend and I to some delicious chocolates from Hotel Chocolat. What can I really say that hasn't already been said in my previous post? This place is still amazing and the staff are still as helpful as ever. Destined to buy something totally different, the girl behind the counter came out and helped me pick out the fudge sundae I bought and I went for the other two on my own: passion fruit margarita (uh, it may have been thursday but I totally had friday on my mind) and chili pralines. I even told her I always go for the same ones, but this time, I was going to be bold and go for new ones. At the yelp event I was part of, they let us sample the chili chocolates and they were to die for, so I went with those, as I know my boyfriend and I are huge fans. I tried convincing the girl to sample them as well, but she admitted to being scared of the amount of chili that might be in them. Let me tell you, the chili is ever so subtle, slowly growing in heat, but not so much that you want to run for a glass of milk to cool off the tongue. Just perfect! I recently emptied out my wallet, so I left my hotel chocolat loyalty card at home, but they assured me that I could get the points the next time I was in if I just kept the receipt and bring in the card. Phew! Until the next time! You will always be my favourite chocolate!

The chocolate here is spectacular and the chilli cocoa is to die for! If you are lucky enough to have a chance to visit Hotel Chocolate make sure to take the time to do so, you will not be disappointed.

This is only one part of the chocolates you can choose from!

A couple of years ago, their shop expanded to include a little café, where you can enjoy their chocolates with a hot drink. My favourite combination has to be tablet and a tea with no sugar, so you can get the contrast in the two. I bought a box of the chocolates for Maw once and she said they were fantastic, although they're the kind of ones you can only eat 2 or 3 of at a time. For it being such a small, quality business, prices actually aren't that bad.

Anyhow, I recall her excitement at finding this place a while back but never having been in. I took it upon myself to do all the work and pick her up some chocolates for a mini-celebration. They might have been better than the ones I have just worked through from Marks and Spencers I got from Christmas, and were certainly better than Thorntons. Everything in Thorntons sort of tastes the same, in the same way everything in McDonalds also tastes the same. The staff were friendly and chatty and more or less done the work on my behalf to be fair with regards to buying the chocolates, all I done was actually pay for them. Didn't pay as much as I was prepared to either so I treated myself to a cup of coffee, which was also above average. I am a romantic man. Who knows how to treat himself as well.

Thorntons. Oh, dear, dear Thorntons…read more Here's a confession: I like chocolate. I really do, but Thorntons is not my favourite chocolate in the world, Milka is. However, there's a special South African someone who you can easily bribe with the Fudge Brownie Chocolate from Throntons. Whenever I ask if I should bring him something from the UK, I get that look and the "Only chocolate, please" (and here I was thinking I was sweet enough for him... clearly not haha). They are quite expensive, but luckily they are usually on a Buy 3 for 2 offer. The last time I bought the chocolate from their Buchanan Galleries store, the cashier girl did however not inform me of this - shame I would have bought more, she would have gotten higher sales and the South African would have been even happier, but alas, it wasn't to be. Now, the South African is not the only one who has a thing for Thorntons. My German step-mother has a thing for mints, something the UK is very good at. On a whim I bought her a bag of the Mint Crumbles. Boy, what was I thinking? Now every time I go back to Germany I have to bring at least an entire box of them (the sales lady at this particular shop was so lovely to sell me an entire box of 12 bags, as it would be easier to carry around, bless her cotton socks!) - and I almost sparked a family feud between my Father and her when I sent her a few bags randomly, and my father claimed them to leave them at his house (apparently for her) but when she arrived the following day, he had finished the majority of them. So you have it, Thorntons do amazing chocolate and mint crumbles that the foreigners are crazy about, and the sales assistants (especially in this store) are very helpful and friendly. I like their chocolates, but if I had the choice between Milka and Thorntons, I would always go for the purple cow.

My favourite has to be the Viennese Truffles, oh my goodness, they are to die for! I could eat a whole bag to myself and then still want more! I also like Alpini Bars, Chocolate Smothered Toffee, Special Toffee, Strawberry Whirl, Toffee Cubes... I could go on forever! This branch of Thorntons is one of the smaller branches but they still manage to get everything in, they also have an ice-cream section in summer and a chocolate fountain all year round, where you choose from sticks of fudge, fruit or marshmallows. I also love the kids chocolate section, you can buy little chocolate lollies which are usually on offer at 5 for £2. There are little boxes with packets of sweets and chocolate in them with stickers too. It's also great for presents, I once bought a chocolate gorilla for my brother with his name written on in it with icing, pretty fitting I thought. It's also worth noting that Thorntons stock a wide range of diabetic chocolate which is great as many places don't stock this. My first ever job was in a branch of Thorntons when I was around 16, I was just a Christmas Temp for a month or so but it was seriously the best job ever! You got 25% discount off everything, plus free tasting on your break and if that wasn't enough there was also a box of broken chocolate that you could eat as much as you wanted!

The chocolatier is a profession and he is forever making sweet sweet art at Thorntons. If you are lucky, sometimes the chocolatiers assistants are out on the street offering samples. I have tried and tested quite few of the chocolates here, and can say my all time favourite is the Vanilla fudge. Thorntons Sauchiehall St is a great place to be, its right in the heart of the shopping district and acts as a stool to rest those tired feet and put down those heavy bags before you set off again with the power of a chocolate full tummy to lead you on.

I thought if their cakes looked that amazing, the brunch must be amazeballs. I entered the grand looking coffee shop with walls of mirrors and a counter of cakes on a very dreicht Saturday morning. I was a bit late but fortunately when I arrived people had just ordered, I quickly picked from the menu French Toast (I knew what I wanted before I ordered to be honest) and a pot of Breakfast Tea. There was 10 fabulous Yelpers and we all picked a nice mix of various brunch meals. When the dishes hit the posh tables they looked pretty tasty. My tea was lovely and the French toast was a tasty brioche bread with a wee bowl of maple syrup to drizzle over. Now, don't get me wrong it did taste nice but I've had better and I felt like I could have had another slice, especially at the price they were charging. Now this place is not cheap. I knew that the cake was steep as I had seen the branch in Glasgow Central. Not only were my teeth thinking of falling out with the amount of sugar those mahoosive cakes have but my eyes were popping out with the prices. I really wanted to try the French toast with bacon but I just couldn't see myself paying over £7 for it. Maybe when I'm rich 'n' shiz. The staff were lovely and accommodating. I would like try their lunch menu and a slice of cake to see if they taste as good as they look. Firstly though I'll need to save up for the visit.
