Hotel chocolat is a cute shop with TONS of choices! I first had them when visiting Ireland a few years back. When I saw there was one in Glasgow I knew I had to stop in. I came here based on the reviews of how good your chocolate was. Unfortunately, the customer service fell short. When we walked in, a young woman was standing near some chocolate with a pen and a piece of paper in her hands. It was obvious she was doing some sort of inventory or something. She never greeted us. We were there for a minute or two and we got to the side where she was, to continue browsing to see what we wanted to buy, she never said hello, offered to move or ask if she could help us with anything. Instead, she continued writing on her paper. We didn't come at closing time so it was off putting. We left without patronizing the business. read more

I really need to stay away from this shop, it's way too addicting, but so worth it in the end! Long week almost over, I decided to stop in on my way home to treat my boyfriend and I to some delicious chocolates from Hotel Chocolat. What can I really say that hasn't already been said in my previous post? This place is still amazing and the staff are still as helpful as ever. Destined to buy something totally different, the girl behind the counter came out and helped me pick out the fudge sundae I bought and I went for the other two on my own: passion fruit margarita (uh, it may have been thursday but I totally had friday on my mind) and chili pralines. I even told her I always go for the same ones, but this time, I was going to be bold and go for new ones. At the yelp event I was part of, they let us sample the chili chocolates and they were to die for, so I went with those, as I know my boyfriend and I are huge fans. I tried convincing the girl to sample them as well, but she admitted to being scared of the amount of chili that might be in them. Let me tell you, the chili is ever so subtle, slowly growing in heat, but not so much that you want to run for a glass of milk to cool off the tongue. Just perfect! I recently emptied out my wallet, so I left my hotel chocolat loyalty card at home, but they assured me that I could get the points the next time I was in if I just kept the receipt and bring in the card. I seriously love this place. Located in the St Enoch Centre this is a chocolate lovers paradise. The shop is bright and well laid out, and the goodies on offer include delights such as huge slabs of chocolate with unusual combinations like billionaries shortbread, sleekster chocolate box selections, chocolate lollies, buttons and gift collections. The quality of the chocolate is by far the best I've tasted and there's something to suit all tastes, ranging from milk chocolate to luxury dark 80% varieties. At Easter time they do a fantastic range of thick eggs and quirky Easter treats. A particular favourite of mine is the caramel milk chocolate puddles (buttons). It is quite expensive with prices starting at £2 for a tiddly pot of chocolate buttons or a chocolate lolly, to skys-the-limit prices for some of the larger boxed chocolates. I've always enjoyed most kinds of chocolate but believe me good old Cadburys just won't cut it once you've tried Hotel Chocolat. Hotel Chocolat also have boutique cafes in some branches and I've visited the one within John Lewis in Edinburgh. I really hope they consider opening one in Glasgow as I'm sure it would be an instant hit as there really isn't anywhere like it in the city! All of the companies products are made from their own cocoa, grown from their plantation in Saint Lucia. Theres also a boutique hotel on the site and I'm determined I'll visit one day, but for now I'll need to make do with my visits to the store for my chocolate fixes! read more

Oh lordy. I visited here upon instructions from a friend, who doesn't have a Hotel Chocolate near her. Seriously, last time I did this I had to go to London to do it, so one in Glasgow might be dangerous. I'm not the world's biggest fan of chocolate. There, I said it. I'll wait a moment or you to pick your jaws up off the floor. My svelte figure (HA!) isn't thanks to eating chocolate by the skip full, y'know. In any case, the shop here was a chocolate lover's dream. I tried a couple of the free samples on offer - it was the polite thing to do, y'see - and yes, it's very nice chocolate indeed. The range is HUGE, covering all bases, tastes, styles, flavourings... if you can imagine it, it probably exists... and exists here. The staff are incredibly helpful. I wandered in with a screen shot of a list, and found everything I was looking for with no trouble, thanks to the help from the lady behind the counter. I should have caught her name, but there was a big party of Japanese tourists in, so she was kinda busy besides me! I would easily rate it 5 stars for choice and service, but there's a niggling problem in the back of my mind, and it's purely financial. The treats here are doubtless as good as you can get, but you will pay slightly over the odds for what are just sweeties, after all. As a one off treat now and then, I think it's fine. Everyone needs a vice of some kind (mine happen to be Lego minifgures, take me to the Lego store and watch me go) so, hey - you pays your money and you takes your choccy delights home. I do like the bags as well, though. Well worth the 5p charge that the Japanese tourists seemed to be so confused about! read more

For years I yearned for Glasgow to have a Hotel Chocolat of its very own as I quenched my cravings for hot chocolate and dizzy pralines once a year on visits to London. Seriously, it is obscene just how much hot chocolate I once stuffed into my bags, but I was addicted! Needless to say, since this shop popped up in the St. Enoch Centre I've become quite the stalwart customer. Who could say no to Dizzy Pralines, Salted Caramels, and of course the decadent cocktail collection? Insane people, that's who. Or those without adequate tastebuds (oh how I lament for you). My favourite time is sale time! After Christmas, there are always large boxes available for half price, and after Easter you can often get some lovely discounted eggs too! But of course I am a hot chocolate regular because it is quite simply the best in all the land. If you haven't tried it, make sure you stop by for a gander and perhaps a free sample. Oh how I adore Hotel Chocolat. The name conjures images from one of my favourite books - Chocolat by Joanne Harris and their product line is sure to place me on the at risk register for type 2 diabetes. The shop is sleek and clean all white and dark dark wood - very reminiscent of 80% dark chocolate - clever. The staff are friendly, helpful and obviously very passionate and therefore knowledgeable about their product line. But what keeps me coming back to Hotel Chocolat is the chocolate. Until I tasted this I was happy with Dairy Milk or even Galaxy in a pinch. But I have seen the error of my ways the best comparison I can think of is that supermarket chocolate is cheap instant coffee and Hotel Chocolat is the best, freshest beans roasted to perfection and brewed and served by a master barista. I always go in promising that I am only going to get a few of the dark chocolate batons and be a model of restraint. But then I fail and leave with a wee selection of the flavoured, truffle, fancy ones and the batons - do not leave without a packet of 80% dark chocolate batons. This is a brilliant place to buy a present, but just make sure you get yourself a wee something too. I'd hate to be in anyway responsible for you eating a gift and then having nothing to hand over! read more

This stunning new boutique in Glasgow's St Enoch Centre is a wonderful feature in the city. With so many new restaurants opening up in Glasgow, a place that sells glorious chocolate to have as dessert was just what we needed. The newest of 70 stores across the UK, Glasgow's Hotel Chocolat is fast becoming one of the most popular stores in the city, with plenty of people buying everything from milk chocolate lollies to raspberry liquer truffles and spa products using ingredients from Hotel Chocolat's hotel and spa in St Lucia in the Caribbean every day. The boutique itself is very glam, with dark wood and shiny black surfaces, and a huge LCD TV behind the counter showing images from the St Lucia hotel and spa. The staff in here are nothing short of wonderful - anything you need, they'll find it. Their knowledge of chocolate, and just how Hotel Chocolat make their own, is absolutely incredible. I can also vouch for how phenomenal the chocolate here is having been to a chocolate tasting. Everything from lemon meringue to 100% dark chocolate was tasted and devoured pretty quickly. Whether it's for gifts or just for some chocolate to sit in the house and munch alone, Hotel Chocolat is the place to get it. read more

I was lucky enough to come as part of an event and gone are the days of mindlessly stuffing my face with chocolate.... Well for the most part. We all have days where we just need to inhale chocolate. Anyway I digress. I have just had the most fabulously entertaining night, amazing chocolate, chocolate beer (just a wee sip) lovely company and an amazing introduction to chocolate. One piece tasted like welly boots (in a good way) and the same type of chocolate produced in a different way tasted like raisins.. go figure?!? Our hosts for the night were obviously passionate and enthusiastic about the chocolate which made for a fab and interesting night. We were lucky enough to get ten percent off AND the opportunity to taste a heck of a lot of chocolate! My belly is so full it hurts and I don't regret a thing! Can't wait to go back and purchase some chocolates in the future and if you ask nicely I'll maybe share (probably not....Sorry...not sorry) A wonderful place that you must check out, if you any questions at all I just know that the staff will be more happy to help you out with your chocolate choices :-) read more

The update to my original review is that this place is still awesome! I went in here today to buy a present. It was SO EASY! I was immediately taken by the first thing that I clapped eyes on. Job done! I did however, still have a browse about, and just about everything else would have been perfect too. The chap in the store was also very helpful, asking if he could help at all, but not in an intrusive, in your face way, but in a genuine, can I actually help you way. The staff here are lovely, they must be paid partly in chocolate to keep them so happy and nice. My discovery of the day was the 'Everything' selection. Sometimes, when you're buying a box of chocolates for someone, you're not quite sure what sort of chocolates they like, and it makes it a little bit tricky. Hotel Chocolat caters for that with their 'Everything' selection - yup, it's a little bit of everything. This is still easily the best place in Glasgow to buy chocolate. read more

I have been here many times for many occasions such as christmas and birthdays and i am in love with this store. The chocolate variety that they have is vast and it is all treat worthy high grade chocolate. Such flavours and types as apple strudel chocolate, eton mess, dizzy praline and salted caramel versions. You can get these in cute bags, themed packages such as a huge cracker or wreath assortment or for valentines heart shaped boxes. They also bring out seasonal chocolates such as love potions for valentines day and wreaths and santa's and mince pie brownies for christmas. The staff here are very friendly and knowledgeable and actually have first hand knowledge of the products, ie have tasted them. This puts them in the position of actually telling you what they thought rather than hitting you with the sales patter! I love this place, its easily a 5 star and i will be back here many times in the future! read more

Love, love, love Hotel Chocolat! Now that I'm a grown up, apparently, I do love some fancy chocolate. If you are looking for something a bit different then a visit to the wall of chocolate, truffles, mini chocolate slabs...is a must. They really have thought of some amazing flavour combinations and their boozy truffles are divine! I don't usually like booze in my chocolates but it's premium spirits instead of the usual flavourings you might expect and the result is perfection and ahem a rather boozy chocolate, hic. You will also find a range of savoury items with intriguing cocoa twists, such as the white chocolate horseradish (so good!) or their own beer or gin. Staff are lovely and helpful and there's always a tasting going on in store. read more

I really love chocolate so this is the perfect shop for me. It's a small branch but they seem to stock most products by the company. There are bars, boxes of all sizes, bags of treats and more. They have some really unusual things too, like alcohol and tea made from cocoa and beauty products with cocoa butter. My favourite products are the Selectors, boxes of 6 chocolates for £3.85. They alsways have lots to choose from and they're handily divided into categories like fruity, nutty, boozy etc. They also have a good range of single origin bars for the serious chocolate fan and some info cards about the production of their chocolate. A couple of things I don't like: their caramel is far too runny and reminds me of cough syrup! Some of their bars (or slabs) are much too thick. Ideally chocolate should melt in the mouth and these just don't. Other than these personal dislikes I always enjoy a visit to Hotel Chocolat and would highly recommend it, it's the perfect shop for gifts and treats. read more
