Mixed bag. I went in looking for several items: A gas grill, coolers, and electric fireplaces. I had to go to the Service Desk to get someone to come and talk with me about the grills. The grills have a sign on them that states "Free Assembly." Turns out - the "Free Assembly" is they assemble the grill in the store - okay - great - how the hell do I get the grill home? It sure won't fit in my car! Then he tells me they will rent me a truck to transport the grill. Ugh. Like I want to do that. Just offer me the option of delivering the grill to my house and then assembling it there. But Nooooooooooo! Couldn't possibly offer that as an option! I think I will hold off on the grill for now. Then I asked if they had coolers. The same guy told me he had not seen any and therefore they must not have any. I then walked around and found them. They were up to high for me to reach - so I went back to the Service Desk - a guy named Randy promptly met me on the aisle and pulled two coolers down for me. I also ended up buying several CFL bulbs in red and green (for Christmas). I've never seen CFL bulbs offered in colors - but I should not be surprised.

They installed this door & didn't even take the time to make my molding match! It's an eyesore, embarrassment, & unprofessional.

She just looked in the computer. Please train your staff to physically go check if an item is in stock before customers drive out. Especially, after a long hold time. Below is the reality of the situation. 1. I called before to ensure they had the model I wanted in stock as I live 25 minutes away. The assured me they had it. When I arrived no, they didn't have it and could only offer of Oh I'm sorry, what do you want to do? Kind of take it or leave it attitude. 2. Was walking about the store for at least 10 minutes after arrival, no one greeted me or asked what I was looking for. 3. Was standing in an aisle looking at a garden hoe price as it was missing. Employee walks right by me not a word spoken. He comes back by a few minutes later and I have to flag him down, and he doesn't know the price and has to go look. 4. Asked for a demo of the stihl product including start up and safety procedures guy says "I already took care of that" and proceeds to ask if he can take a break now. 5. They then take me to sign up for my own warranty. This may be standard practice, but at the other stihl dealer I normally go to this is taken care of by the staff. During this process the safety briefing comes up and a manager is asked if he can do the demo and safety brief. He has a deer in the heads lights look on his face and just shakes his head as if he is confused why I am bothering him with this. 6. I asked about a few different products in the store to a few employees. Never did they know the answer..it was always oh let me go look. Should they be knowledgeable in the products carried by the store or is that asking too much? In the end, I bought a chain saw model that was more expensive, had none of my questions answered in a clear manner, and a manager that seems to want to chill in the paint section and not be bothered. If this seems like a good experience for you then by all means spend your money at this store. I expected more from a store that pleads with locals on social media to support local businesses as the big box stores are killing Ace slowly but the employees and manager are taking no responsibility for their own survival but just doing and learning the basic job. Mine is just one experience, I'm sure the employees are good people outside of work, I'm just giving my factual experience.

Breathe in the ambiance. There is something comforting about these hardware stores... I wasn't planning on buying anything when I went in. Several employees asked if I needed help. I didn't at first. Then I opted for a new Stanley claw hammer (I can't find my current hammer) and a metal tool for breaking up and chipping ice from sidewalks (I'll be damned if I could find this style tool anywhere during the winter). As far as I can tell, this hardware store IS NOT affiliated with True Value - nothing at the store would indicate this and they are not listed on the True Value web site. They accept plastic here - although I believe they do not accept Discover. Nice folks running the place - friendly and helpful!

Unfortunately, one smug employee ruined that experience for me, and I'll now be switching my allegiance to Ace. I purchased a small $6 shower accessory. Unfortunately I lost the receipt. The accessory was not what I needed, and I attempted to return it. The employee stated I cannot return without a receipt, even for a store credit (I was going to purchase products worth more than the value of what I was returning). I was disappointed at this response, but I shopped for what I needed anyway. I went to the front, and the employee was helping another customer in an aisle. After helping that customer, she proceeded to another customer in the aisle. Now, I understand one person having to triage, but at that point a simple acknowledgement of me would have been nice. It felt intentional, and it seemed as if the employee was taking satisfaction, acting somewhat smug as she told me she won't accept a return without a receipt. Not sure if this is just one rude employee, or the owner is really this strict about returns on $6 items that are clearly unused, but either way, I seriously doubt I'll be doing business here any more. If you had or have a similar experience, I also encourage you to drop these clowns. (Incidentally, when I purchased the item I would eventually return, I was not asked for my phone number (which they generally use to text receipts, as I'm part of their "customer club" or whatever. So there is actually another mess-up by a different employee that could have accommodated the companies own draconian return policy.) In short, I go to a neighborhood spot like this for the service. And when I'm treated this way, it defeats the purpose of avoiding much more convenient and likely cheaper options like Ace or Amazon. You are not really selling hardware - you should be trying to offer a superior customer experience--remember that and you will not lose customers like this
