I made a purchase a few days ago for something that wasn't going to work. I wasn't given a receipt, which is my fault for walking away without getting it... but I assume since I used my debit card, I could use that to find it in the event. I need to return it. I used Apple tap to pay with a debit card that was compromised later that day. the bank canceled that card (what timing?!) so... when I went to return the item, I was turned away because I could not use the tap method. they could not find the purchase and told me that I should just "sell it on eBay" or Google our corporate phone number if that doesn't work. This was my absolute worst experience with Home Depot's customer service department EVER! I was (not) helped by a young woman named Lily. I don't know how a company would hire somebody with that terrible of customer service skills to be their on site manager. but once I raised enough chaos with other cashiers, I found another manager that was totally willing to help me? and they resolved my situation with store credit. (Amazing!) I was absolutely blown away that somebody would tell me to "sell it on eBay" as my only other option since they couldn't 'prove' that I actually purchased this item in the store. Somehow, my bank records were not enough. I knew exactly what register I bought it on, and we went to that register and looked up the history, found it, and resolved it very quickly!! ... albeit no thanks to Lily. Hanna, the other supervisor on duty for cashiers was AMAZING!!!!! So helpful, nice, and had empathy that totally refreshed my faith. What is up with the younger generation??! I just got checked out by the most inept checker I have ever encountered. I let her use my tape measure to measure the lumber I was buying, and somehow she read 7 feet as 12 feet and then afterwards saw I had two boards and then tried to charge me for 24 feet, all the while I had two 1x2x7' boards. She then had to fiddle with the cash register while trying to fix her mistake. It seemed to take forever to get checked out. I can't imagine the lack of management this place has. read more

I have been calling for 7 hours to purchase in stock carpet over the phone so my workers can drive an hour to pick it up! I was told by a nice salesman that they need to move back stock around so they can get it in the floor to restock and cut it! I should call back in a few hours to see if that was done. I've called back between 4-8:30 7 times I was put on hold , transferred and then was disconnected. What does it take for reasonable service? Reuben changed my whole perception of Home Depot Customer Service! I came in looking for pool salt, Reuben saw me lifting the bags onto my flatbed cart & came over & loaded 8 more for me. He then offered to push the cart, which was heavy, to checkout. On top of that, he wheeled it to my car (parked in the back 40) & unloaded it all! I shop at the home depot often for my gardening needs and other needs many of the employees are awesome and very helpful some need to work on there customer service but some customers need to take a chill pill if you are a contractor you should know what you are doing and not expent the employees to haveall the awnsers for you and just because the employee works in that section does not mean they know all about plumbing or lighting and so on some try to read up on things to know but they just work there and try to help you the best they can so do not be rude and call them stupied or get angry at them do your research and learn up on the project you are doing before you shop for it the store is clean they try and keep things safe even though people let there kids run all over the place not cool any way I love shopping there great place but they could are for the plants better in the garden area read more

Their customer service within various departments has improved, however the cashiers lack in their customer service skills; I miss the days when they actually utilize their self checkouts. I find the rudeness with the checkers unbearable; when I shop at Home Depot I usually order online and just pick it up prepaid. The folks that work in the pick up area are much more pleasant than the cashiers. I also enjoy the delivery option. The positives definitely outweigh the experience with the cashiers, and there are ways around having to deal with them, which is why I give it the rating I did. My biggest issue, though with the cashiers is with the amount that I pay there with each purchase, I feel they could be a little bit more friendly and a little bit more patient when it comes to me having to bag my own stuff since they won't. Another experience I had, was looking for a washer. I checked online and found one that the store was said to have had three in stock. I went into the store asking for one, and was told they didn't have any. I showed the person the printout I made of the Online inventory and he said "oh well there isn't any out here on the floor so I guess you're out of luck." I went home to just double check and I was able to put one in the shopping cart online and even was able to check it out and have it delivered to my house from the store that day; but, I didn't want to buy it online. I actually wanted to look at it before I purchased it. Needless to say I won't buy a washer, dryer, or any other major appliance from there I'd much rather give it to one of our local businesses, such as Pardini or Mendo Mill. I see no reason why anyone needs a commission or sale based on the laziness and customer service skills of a man who couldn't help me. read more

I purchased some paint at Home Depot for refinishing a deck. The paint was premixed and the paint person picked it out as a redwood stain. This is 3 weeks later and before I saw it the deck was partially painted. It was bright orange! I'm talking Home Depot orange. So I took it back and the service people refused to believe me, even though I had a photo. They finally gave me credit for the unopened cans but not for the open can. Or the painters time. They were all very rude about it too. I'm never going back, and I spend a lot of money there for small and large projects. Went in the Ukiah Home Depot to get some accessories for my pellet grill. I had most of my items but I was wanting a mini shop vac. I couldn't find any shop vacs at all. I looked for an associate but the moment you try to make eye contact, they run the other way. This store has perfected the art of "Dodging the Customer". Here's the best! I asked someone up at the registers for the location of the shop vacs. The cashier pointed to an area and said "That Way!" while she covered up her name badge. I left my cart right where I stood and walked out. Customer service this bad has to be trained by the company. It's so consistent. I'm done with Home Depot. I purchased a washer & dryer and refrigerator (Samsung) from Home Depot on 280 in Birmingham, AL. The delivery was on time and the delivery men set up the appliances. I asked one of them if they hooked up the waterline for the ice maker and he stated yes. I wondered when I checked the tray that there was no ice. I pulled the refrigerator out only to find that the waterline was not hooked up. I contacted Home Depot regarding this issue and they sent someone out to complete the job. The Samsung refrigerator had a waterline attached and it didn't match the braided waterline Home Depot provided. Instead of trying to find a connector to complete the job, the gentleman stated that he couldn't complete the job because he didn't know how to hook it up and that I should call a plumber. REALLY?! So I did, and had to pay $100 for something that was part of the service I paid for with Home Depot and the connector only cost $10. This is unacceptable and I want my $100 back because I shouldn't have had to pay anything out of pocket. read more

Rarely a thank you for your business. Often times the checkout clerk doesn't even say anything or look at you. There is a duh attitude. The professional employees however are the exception but the checkout people have no customer consideration and totally lack at even making a friendly effort. In store: No one knows where anything is. There is typically a huddle of people talking with each other near the cash registers presumably there to help customers. Too bad they have not been oriented to the store to be a little helpful. Online: Do not order expecting your delivery to arrive when website says it will. Good luck getting a refund when things do not arrive on they day they promise. Often when ordering mulptiples of same item, each comes with its own barage of emails and texts instead of 1 per order. Floor Dept. people: Have never been helpful over 10 years off and on. Always on phone/Never available to help/when off the phone they rarely get up from their chair to help. Freidman's floor dept. is easier to deal with and Costco has better flooring options if you have a way to transport. Customer service by phone: NON EXISTENT. Not enough staff to answer phone. Calling the 800# is more effecient. Installation/Service: NON EXISTENT for outside of Ukiah. Use local small businesses for installations and service. read more

Update: STILL ONE STAR. My dad ordered his flooring and a washer/dryer with pedestals. The delivery driver called when the washer and dryer were ready to be delivered and we were able to get to the house and accept them. We thought they were delivering the flooring at the same time. NOPE! The flooring was delivered YESTERDAY. It was left on the palette in the rain and we never received a phone call even though the paper clearly states to call before delivering. My dad isn't living at his new house yet because it still needs the FLOORS DONE. The boxes were soaked through and because my dad can't walk at the moment, I was stuck hauling all these boxes in with my sister. They're heavier than they look. My dad and I were looking at hardwood flooring for his new house. He's picky and takes forever, so I went off in search of a restroom. MISTAKE. The first stall was dark, barely any light at all. The third stall had toilet paper all over the place. The MIDDLE STALL...oh good lord. It looked like someone had explosive diarrhea all over the toilet and the floor, and ran their fingers through it. Don't believe me? I attached pictures. Disappointed in the workshops. My friend and I registered online and were looking forward to learning cool stuff about kitchen renovation, tiling, wiring, etc. We showed up for the workshop and no one at the store had any clue what we were talking about. Even though we pre-registered and gave all our information, received a confirmation email, etc., everyone acted like they had no idea we were coming. The manager never actually came to apologize or talk to us, but sent an employee from a different department come and make excuses for ten minutes. He threw out gems like "sometimes the people teaching the class don't know what they're talking about and just read off a piece of paper" and "if it were the tiling class I could teach you but not if I'm about to close a $20,000 sale", etc. Look, it's fine if HD doesn't have workshops. But don't advertise them, open registration, then neglect to follow through. We drove 45 minutes and were extremely disappointed, wondering why no one gave us a call to let us know the workshop wouldn't be held. We could have saved our gas money and watched YouTube videos. I went by home Depot early this morning to buy almost $1,000 worth of parts for a remodel job I'm doing on my house. Although their website said they had the items in stock when I got to the correct aisle that had other brands, they didn't have the items in stock that they were supposed to. I tried to get someone to help me including walking up to the store where there were about 12 employees who work there standing around talking with each other. They at first said they would send somebody but nobody ever showed up at the correct aisle. My wife hunted around the store trying to find someone. She even went back to the customer service desk three different times asking for help but no one was willing to come and help us. They kept making excuses like the person that works. That area is at lunch even though it was about 8:00 a.m. and they couldn't get anybody else. After about 30 minutes we finally gave up and left the store. We're going over to Ace hardware or Friedman Brothers stores that actually respect their customers and will give them customer service. Home Depot is only a waste of time. read more

Ahhhh, Home Depot. It's such a hit-and-miss experience with so many more misses than hits. In this case I considered a new washer and dryer. They had an email with a really attractive price so I wandered in and there were the sets from the ad. So I asked a guy who had a vest and he showed that he could read the tag on the unit itself but not much more. I might as well have asked him for the formula for rocket fuel using rutabagas. I figured I got a newbie so I tried calling a few days later. What a mistake. Might as well call the IRS and ask them for a commission on others' taxes. First there's the phone tree. Of course nobody answers but, after a while, someone finally picks up from customer no service. So you ask a question. They say they have to redirect you to appliances. Yeah, that's the button I pushed. Eventually after 43 minutes (no exaggeration) on hold listening to how much they value my business and all of that, I hung up. I did find appliances at a local shop where the people spoke real, genuine English and could answer questions and even delivered for free and had very competitive pricing. I didn't have to push any buttons to speak with them after I called and I even got free advice! Another thing about this particular HoDe is that it's a little one, so all the really cool stuff like the new Ryobi high-capacity batteries, the new Ryobi pool vacuum and many other products that the email advertisements brag about aren't there. But you can order them. What's the point of heating and cooling a gigantic building full of people who don't give a flying Walendez Brother that never has any of the stuff you want anyway? And they say Amazon is killing retailers. Nope. Stupidity, bad management, incompetent employees and lousy inventory is killing retailers. read more

I just went to the paint department asking if they had spray lacquer, both the guys behind the counter didn't know if they had it or where it was. I then had to show them where it was and if they had any other ones and neither one knew. I went to get wood on an aisle that was closed and gated and no one was in it. I went to three different people to say why can I not go into the gated aisle when there's no one there and two could not answer my question and one said oh we forgot to open it. Normally I'd give a 5 but they just don't want to admit when they did something dumb. I ordered two work tables and paid for them. Delivery for last week. I went into the store to tell them we agreed that this would be delivered late in the day. So we had to reschedule to today for afternoon delivery. I called and of course no one answered until I had called again. This is very common that no one answers the phone. Then was transferred where someone picked up the phone and hung up. So call back again and yes they had the tables on the truck AGAIN. The person I spoke to in the store last week never told delivery I had rescheduled. However, it is in the computer that they delivered in the morning (I'm glad it was not raining as the work tables would have been ruined). Today the person I actually spoke to on the phone kept asking if I wanted the tables. I kept telling her no and trying to explain and she finally said, I don't want to hear about what happened, do you want the tables.... for the 4th time, NO. Not unless you want to give them to me for free. Actually they would have had to come back and pick them up as I don't have the space for them even if free. And the price of the work benches? The same as they were for the past few months. I bought them on Black Friday and though they were "marked down" $50, I don't believe that as I've been watching the price for 6 months and had been in the store a few days before black friday and they were still the same price I'd been watching. I can't believe how terrible customer service is here. They have so many workers walking around but once they see you walking towards them for help they dart down an aisle and avoid you, its happened to me almost every time and it's completely insane. I had to wait in the customer service line just to ask for help in appliances. Then the guy working in that department gave me the wrong information and I had to go back in and return it and buy a smaller size. Then the guy loading it in my car was careless and almost destroyed my door by trying to shove it in. I had to get help from another customer that actually lifted it in the right way.. Any other time I've gotten help I get an attitude or they give me the wrong information so confidently. This is no way to run a business. What do you teach your employees when they're hired?
