Jim Carlson at the front customer service desk gets my 5 Star review. Yesterday, homedepot.com worked on my phone. Today, in the store, when I needed it to find the aisle and location of a product, homedepot.com refused to come uip on my phone - instead I got a message that the "app is out-of-date". I don't know cell phones from space rockets. Jim figured out that the phone app had started to update but in the middle of updating. He asked what I was looking for and then escorted me to exactly where TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) cleaning products were. Home Depot has abandoned the true TSP (the dry granular crystals) and now only carries the TSP solution or a fake product that has no phosphate (phosphate is what does the cleaning). Which is a shame, but the Algonquin Home Depot gets 5 stars from me because Jim got my phone app updated and was knowledgeable on the TSP situation. read more

We went to our local home depot to return some things. There were a total of 4 employees behind the customer service counter and only one of them was working to assist customers. The other three were chit chatting away, totally ignoring the line of customers waiting to be served. I felt bad for the young lady who was actually doing her job while her much older coworkers were having the time of their lives chatting and laughing to each other the entire time. Store has inventory management issues. Went shopping for a doorbell it said they had in stock online. I asked the store associate and was told to purchase that item I had to scan the barcode on the display, buy it online, and go up to the service desk. Someone will go unlock the cage and I'll get my item. Piece of cake? Sounds simple right, nope. I did everything the employee told me to place the order, and headed to the service desk to pick up. No issues with placing the order. Immediately, the woman at the desk told me there's a 2 hour wait on online pickups. I explained to her that I'm a person standing in front of her, that came to the store, and not a person shopping online. I WENT online, yes, to order the item, as your associate said I had to per your system. Nobody told me - not the associate or the sign I scanned - that there could be up to a 2 hour wait. How is anybody supposed to know that who's in the STORE purchasing items? I'm not online. If you want to lock things up for security reasons, KEEP TRACK OF THEM. When somebody is buying something in your store, physically, in person, you cannot say they are an online order that has to wait 2 hours. It doesn't help that I have severe anxiety, and was shopping at 6am so I could get off the roads ASAP and get home before morning traffic got bad. I finally got my item after waiting about a half hour for multiple people to check multiple cages, top stock - all kinds of places were checked. This security system has existed my entire 42 year life. You take the paper ticket for the expensive items up to the desk where you wait a couple minutes and they grab it from the secure area. That's the system, simple, been in place since at least the 80s. Why can't you figure it out here in 2026? read more

I swear this branch has problems with personnel left and right. I've rented things here before and total disaster. This time I came in to buy a refrigerator, an expensive one, so I wanted to buy it in store and have a hard copy printed. No one was in appliances to help me. I went to check out and they told me to go to the customer service Counter with sku i was looking to buy. Rude older lady, rude from the start. Was not listening to me. Ring me up with the wrong pricing. I told her the pricing from the start of what it was online. She again was not listening to me. So she had to refund me. I was on a time crunch, and of course she had to make the mistake and of course, she was very rude about it and had to say to me " sir I'm taking care of it aren't I?" She wouldn't have had to do anything if she didn't make the mistake and yes, she better take care of it because it's my money. Because of this experience, I will not be finishing my entire kitchen or anything else at my house with Home Depot. They continue to underwhelm me with the incompetent staff they hire. read more

DO NOT USE CONTRACTORS THROUGH HOME DEPOT Home Depot contracts through The Countertop Factory. The line of ownership between Home Depot and their contractors is vague... when something goes wrong, both Home Depot and the Contractor point fingers. In the end you are left with a headache of going in circles. When the Measuring Tech (Alex) from The Countertop Factory came to my house, I requested two changes to my order: 1) Change the edge to be FLAT (no cost to update) 2) Add the Chip Minimization/Enhanced Seam/Digital Package (a $600 Add On) The Countertop Factory happily made the $600 upgrade...but FAILED to provide the FLAT edge as requested. Funny how The Countertop Company conveniently made the change that earns them an extra $600... Unfortunately I had no idea of their error until after my old kitchen countertop and sink were removed by The Countertop Factory. Once the company brought in the new countertop, I identified that the edging of the new countertop is NOT what I requested. As a result of The Countertop Factory's error, my kitchen was left without a working kitchen sink for 2 WEEKS! It was horrendous working between Home Depot and The Countertop Factory trying to get them to correct their error. Both of the companies pointed to the other and neither wanted to budge and accept the sunk cost. To be honest, Home Depot is just as guilty. Andrea from Home Depot said they could only amend the upper section of the countertop by trimming down the bullnose edge to make it flat. The main part of the countertop that was with the wrong edge could not be amended. And with that no one wanted to admit fault and build a new countertop from scratch. Andrea from Home Depot convinced me to accept that it's 'okay' to have different edging of the coutnertop in my kitchen. It wasn't until today that I realized why....after multiple trips to Home Depot, Kyrie said that Andrea should have reviewed my order with me before it went to production as that is part of the process at Home Depot. Andrea was 'convincing' me to accept the countertop 'as is' to cover herself. In desperation to have a working kitchen sink with water...I took the $5,600 countertop that was built with the wrong edge and have to live with it FOREVER. Where do I begin...giving them a 1 star rating, is giving them too much credit. We bought vinyl floors through them, then went through superior (which is their 3rd party installation company, also horrible). The flooring was delivered and installation began. First, there were 2 different tone flooring that was delivered, that I didn't notice till they were installing them. I did point that out to one of the installers they sent out that day, but they proceeded to install anyways. So I sent pictures to HD, so they did send us the correct flooring (which took some time). Once installed, I was very pleased, till about 6-8 months later, when I started noticing the floor slipping, which caused gaps between the planks and the floor began peeling and cracking causing the flooring to start to buckle and raise. I made a phone call regarding the issue so they sent out an inspector through Superior and they claimed "water damage" (with no proof of water damage). They recommended us to hire a plumber to resolve this, so called water damage, so that's what we did. Had a plumber come out, did his thing and found nothing to cause the damage that was happening to the floor and wrote up a proper report. We sent that report to home Depot, so they came back to replace the planks that were giving us the problems. Maybe, 6 Months later, we started having the same exact thing happening (if not worse this time around). So, again we tried reaching out to Superior, but we could never get a hold of anyone directly. We could only talk to them through Home Depot, which was a huge pain in the ass. The conclusion was that they refused to fix the issue because of this so called "water damage" that they still refused to show us proof of this, even though our plumber wrote up a proper report showing them otherwise. We proceeded to get in touch with the highest rep we could get a hold of at the Home Depot HQ. Surprisingly we got a response back, in a timely matter. Things were starting to look up, in my eyes, but boy was I sorely mistaken. They then sent out a different inspection company to do a thorough inspection. This inspector showed up and was there for about an hour, without talking us through or showing us his "findings" or the lack there of. Home Depot is now putting this on us, saying that "we knew" we had "water damage" the 1st day they installed the floor but we said "go ahead and install anyways" which is a bunch of BS, cause they stated earlier that they don't even check for water before installing, they just do it and now they're trying to cover their ass, saying that they did check and we gave them the ok. There was NO liability Claus that we signed that stated we gave the ok, so they were taking the installers word for it, instead of the customer. They are now refusing to replace the floor or do anything at all in general. Plus, we also had a mold company come and run some tests, to where they showed no water damage on their meters. We took pictures of their meters while on the floor and we sent their findings to the Home Depot HQ, and still NOTHING. Here we are almost 2 1/2 years later from when they installed and no solution. So now, I have to stare at these floors that were poorly installed and can't do anything about it, besides buy some rug runners to help cover up the real bad areas. Two of the boards were not cut to correct size but unfortunately we didn't find out until it was too late to send the item back. The rack had already been assembled except for the boards to be put up. I recently visited this location of Home Depot because I was near the area and this place was on my way, so I decided to drop by when I remembered that I needed tools and other stuff that was available inside. There is ample parking. The place is busy, and I find my way around. It is clean. It is also easy to locate anything because everything is well-organized according to their use, with big names written above. What I like about this place is that everything is available when it comes to tools, supplies, appliances, and the like. I did not really get the chance to explore the whole place because I went to the checkout right after I found and got everything that I wanted to buy. The checkout was super busy, and there was a long line. I was just glad that when it was my turn, it was quick and easy since I did not buy a lot. So far, the tools that I bought are still in good condition, as new, and they are definitely of good quality. I considered it one of the useful purchases I made at Home Depot, and it was also reasonable. read more

Was there last night and not one register open but 2 girls talking and standing around the self checkout. When I confronted here she said they were short staffed. So sick of hearing stores say this when there are multiple employees standing around talking and laughing. That's why I prefer Menards. There are no self checkouts at Menards. I was looking for a new handle for a storm door and was told that there was a $98 storm door installation going on at the time and I would save about $100 on normal installation price. I had to put $40 for them to send someone out to measure but that $40 would be applied to the $98. I received a phone call a few days later saying the installation was $234! I told them I was quoted $98 and he said there was something extra that had to be done and the installation was now $234 and the storm door I picked out was not in stock so I'd have to pay around $90 more for the one they had in stock. I was lied to about the installation price and the cost of the door. Very poor customer service read more

I don't have any issues with the employees or the store per-say, but what DOES annoy me is that often when I search for something, it's in stock at nearly EVERY other home depot in the area (topping compound, filters that fit my furnace), but not this store. It really stinks too because this is the most conveniently close proximity store to me. Often I'm forced to either drive to the crystal lake store (not far, but there are busy roads between me and crystal lake), or I have to stop at the one by work. Also it seems like unless it's the weekend, there's maybe 2 employees working registers. One monitoring self checkout, and if you're lucky there's someone to check you out. Obviously some things are nearly impossible to self checkout (unlabeled hardware, large pieces of material like plywood or drywall). read more

Even though this is more about ordering on the website, when I posted this on their Facebook page they immediately deleted it. Since the local stores fulfill the orders, maybe they care more than the "big guys" that they are losing a formerly loyal customer. Home Depot has probably lost my business for good. I have been looking for a chest freezer for a month and had decided a particular Frigidaire 14.8-cu ft Manual Defrost Chest was a perfect replacement for us. I was thrilled to see they had it in stock and immediately put it in my cart, put in updated CC information, selected a delivery date of 11/18 and everything was fine until I noticed a "would you like our CC and get $50 off" offer. My wife said "well we have a list of paint I was going to buy and a dishwasher we are going to get next month maybe we should." Big mistake, since even though the application says it accepts home phones it then tried to text a verification code to my home number! I said screw it (even though my credit score is now probably dinged for the inquiry) and went back to the still open order only to it show the item was no longer available! Any other online store I've ever used puts your product on hold once you start the check out process. This is a basic feature. So in essence I was penalized by Home Depot because I was going to get their credit card! I called customer service and though she was very nice she said there was nothing she could do. The product was now back ordered with no date listed for when it would come in. Well, there is something I can do, consider Menards or Lowes as my new first choice for home improvement. read more

Had windows installed in May of this year. They were efficient and timely with regard to the installation. Had a leak in 2 that needed to be resealed. Prompt service for repair of one. Technician did not have correct ladder to seal second window. Have called service 5 separate times and keep getting same response that someone will call to schedule the repair. It's almost the end of October and I'm still waiting. Very Frustrating. I am updating this review on April 20, 2018. Next month it will be one year that we had our windows installed I am still waiting to hear back from someone about the one leaky window. I'm very frustrated. read more

While some customers are bothered when employees ask if they need help, I enjoy the constant barrage of "Are you finding everything okay?" I prefer to know that support is always around to answer questions. I felt like the employees we talked to had a great wealth of knowledge and contributed to me getting the proper equipment for my projects. What I needed: Sand Story: I asked three gentlemen where it was located (saying I was doing a project and needed quite a bit of sand). They pointed in the direction of the sand but neither asked to assist me. Please don't get me wrong, I am usually one that can fend for myself and carry heavy things in and out of the house. However, these were multiple 50 pound bags of sand. I started pulling the sand bags out only to find out they were all tapped together...long story short after being attacked by the tape monster I was able to get my sand bags (and extra sand all over me) on my own. My advice: we all know you are aware of where your product is located in the store. If you're available to help, it wouldn't hurt to make sure no further assistance is necessary. read more

My boyfriend and I were line to copy keys and the lady at register was rude. As the second person at the register finished helping the people in front of us, the lady walked off to help a family. She tried to push their massive cart in front of us saying they will help us in a minute. We said we were in line before them and the lady snapped at us asking what we needed. We told her we were just here to copy keys and took our key out of our hand. She gave us a look and continued to copy the key. At the end she tried to play it off as if nothing happened and sent us away so she can help the big cart, yet there was still people behind us who were in line longer than the family. Place was unorganized and no one cared to help us with anything else. Only the people at the checkouts were kind to us. read more

Impossible to find someone, let alone someone who knows what the hell they're talking about. They love to have huge signs strung up everywhere about having the lowest prices but you will have to fight them tooth and nail to actually guarantee it, AND it's only if you catch them on it! All their chemicals and cleaning supplies are about 30-80% more expensive than Menards or WalMart. Same thing with many of their rough electrical and plumbing supplies. They will only drop the price of you have a competitor's ad. If you don't then you're just screwed and lied to about the prices. It's blatant false advertising. The limited selection they DO have it appears that they at least have that in stock. Better off going to Menards. Smarter people, better prices and way better selection. read more

In the interest of full disclosure, a member of Home Depot 's Customer Care Dept. immediately contacted store management on my behalf. The assistant store manager then contacted me and asked that I bring the defective pressure washer back to the store for an even exchange, which I did. The exchange was a no-hassle experience. It is important to note, however, that a disconnect remains between the manufacturer warranty and the Home Depot store itself. When I called the manufacturer to inquire about a warranty repair, or just to send me the broken part and I would have been happy to install it myself, they informed me that the local Home Depot is actually the "authorized service center" for the Homelite pressure washer. When I called Home Depot to get service, they said that I would have to pay $35 to have a "diagnosis" done so that someone could tell me that a $16 part is broken. So much for a two year warranty. So all in all, I'm happy in that my pressure washer is no longer broken in two and the new one appears to be working just fine. In the back of my mind, however, I am still a bit uneasy because what happens if it breaks again? Home Depot as a company should really sit down and have a chat with their vendors to outline exactly how warranty repairs are to be handled in the event that Home Depot is the "authorized service center" for the item. Charging a customer a $35 diagnosis fee to tell him that, indeed, a $16 part is broken and it will take 4-6 weeks to send the unit off for repair does not inspire confidence in their merchandise when it comes to my future purchasing decisions. read more

For a big box store, they definitely work like a smaller store for customer service. Overall, I have found everyone to be very helpful, and generally go out of their way to help you and make it right. I have gotten more and better customer service here than "smaller home" stores.
