Manager today refused to shake top of the line gallon of Benjamin Moore paint I purchased there because a few ounces had been taken out. I've been having them shake older paint for over 20 years. Can was pristine, lid put in with rubber mallet. That's not close to being customer friendly, it's rigid and glad I have a choice. I've spent thousands of dollars there. She was condescending and authoritative. Over 20 years I've experienced some less than stellar Ace mishaps but haven't said anything. David Ziegler, you should be ashamed of the rigidity of your manager. Will be purchasing paint at Sherwin Williams in FRG or Home Depot. No use in paying a premium dollar for store location. read more

I love this place. They help if you need it but don't pester you if you don't. Has a great selection of excellent quality bird foods.

Accidentally returned the wrong Christmas lights. Called within an hour of discovering, explained my mistake and asked the employee to please look. She couldn't because everything had been restocked and apparently there had been a great many to return to shelves. It was 6:48 when we called. Closes at 7. Plenty of time to check. I explained if someone comes in and buys the package, they will have the wrong lights and then THEY will have to come back. Didn't seem to matter. Next morning, called the manager to explain the situation. He wasn't particularly interested. Went in and they couldn't find the bulbs. When I explained again the situation and the mistake made and how another customer will be inconvenienced, the counter clerk very rudely told me "We can handle it" and walked off. I responded that isn't the point! Around this time the manager walks in. When I explain what just happened and the backstory, his first response was, "You didn't provide enough information for them to find it." Completely ignored the fact the staff refused to even go look! The girl even said she distinctly remembered us coming in (within the last hour!). Didn't matter what I explained, his next response was "Well, you have to take accountability." What??!! That is exactly what we did by calling, telling them the mistake we made, coming back up to the store. Unbelievable. I am shocked and disappointed at the way Ray the Manager spoke to me. Very poor customer service. Just lost a loyal customer. In the future, I will give my business to FRG Ace. The only redeeming aspect of this entire experience was Ryan. I'm so incredibly disappointed in this store. They've been borderline rude during COVID for curb side pick up, like we were in their way, but I was giving the benefit of the doubt due to COVID. However today my daughter went to make a pick up today of a curb side order from the day before (3 bags of water softener salt). She called and the person who answered was short with her on the phone and rude, then never came out. She called again and got no response. I had to call 18 minutes after she did. Unacceptable. There are plenty of options for me to buy supplies and bags of salt, and this Ace is one I won't go back to. She spent 21 minutes for a curb side pick up that should've taken two minutes. I just wanted to say thank you! I've been sent on a few trips to Ace by my boyfriend when doing projects around the house and your staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. I feel like it's a rarity that employees know the products they have in store and exactly where they are but I'm always pleasantly surprised by your employees. Tonight I came in for Velcro strips and one of your employees could see me wandering. He asked if I needed help and when I stated I was looking for Velcro he was super quick to answer aisle 20. He was polite and friendly as well as the young lady at the register. Thank you for making my trips to your store easy and pleasant! read more

I needed a plumber to fix a leaking shower cartridge, and called Roto-Rooter. They tried to rooter me alright, and gave me a quote for $370 + $70 for the cartridge!!! I went to Ace, and spoke with Ray and Kai about what it would take to do it myself. They said it would take around $40 and about 20 minutes. They showed me what I needed, gave me a few tips, and with that I was off. I did what they told me, and it could not have been any easier. (Don't tell my wife that!) Thanks for nothing Roto Rip Off! The only thing wrong with this store, is that I always buy way to many cool things when I go in there. I guess it's like a jewelry store for men. Thanks Kai and Ray, you two are awesome!!! read more

Not happy with the service. Ace did not have the key blank I needed. So I found the blanks on line. Went back and they refused to copy the key. This was the store policy. I offered to sign a waiver that I would not sure over the 39 cent key blank. They refused. What a bunch of jerks. read more

I've been in here a few times since we moved into the area and every employee I have wroked with have been helpful and polite. Their prices might not be as low as the 'big box' hardware stores, but my time (and gasoline) more than make up for the difference. read more

I get my paint and other stuff all the time. They have a paint mixer. Seems to have everything I want. I hate to go to large hardware store for small items. Plus, supporting the local guy is the way to go. People are great and helpful. read more

At two other local places, I tried to have my house key duplicated. Had it done, didn't work; different place, didn't work. Today I went to Ace and was greeted my a friendly Mitch who copied my key quickly. Then I asked about the possibility of duplicating a chip key for my car. I know the dealers charge way over $100+++. He looked it up and told me he could. Within minutes, we ran out to my car to program it with the "chip", worked perfectly, for only $79.00. Now I have working house and car keys copied perfectly, quickly, and Mitch was great. Ace!! Great quick, quality service with a smile. Thanks, Mitch!!! read more

Yeah il still give them 4 stars. I just won't let the old guy help me anymore I went to match my exterior Benjamin Moore paint that I bought from them a year ago . (Standard BM WHITE/ blanco) To do some touch ups. We'll it seems that this Ace has changed their paint manufacturer that they carry but anyway this guy had no interest in helping me or matching it so I can purchase some he just says we don't carry it any more. So I keep looking and I see some quarts on the shelf that were like old stock Benny Moore thinking that this is probably it but was told by him that that's not the same paint in the manner as. "Are you questioning me" "I told you we don't have it" so I left there and went to the paint store in downtown Crystal lake. ( which is a great family owned business) anyway the owner went right to the shelf and pull the exact same paint can as was at the Ace . I questioned him about it and he said. That this is the new packaging for my paint and is exactly the same as I was looking for. So to you old man at Ace il never have you help me again and to the rest of the ACE EMPLOYEES AND MANAGER. keep up the good work. Except for that last time. Excellent customer service; we came from Palatine to see patio furniture that was assembled and on display at this Ace Hardware store. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the product. Unfortunately, the set was too large for our townhome patio se we didn't purchase. I had several small items that I wanted and Rich, one of the staff members helped e find a small screw for a barometer. Not a big sale, but it was important to me. I highly recommend this hardware store. read more

I've been shopping at this Ace for many years. The past few times I've been in there Ray has helped me find whatever it is I need for my current home project. I just want to say that Ray is awesome!
