Two years ago they charged $100 for everyone to be seen. I was unpleasantly surprised to see that, since marijuana has become legal, their prices have almost doubled! I guess supply and demand and all that but it sure feels like a gouge - especially since I'm renewing but didn't live locally for a year so have to pay "newbie" fees. You are certainly not paying extra rent for your tiny drab office. You took longer to run my card than to assess my eligibilty. Not a bad thing necessarily but why double the fee? The bud at dispensaries is almost the SAME for medical and non-medical purchases. Right now NETA in Brookline has exactly the same strains available for both. Medical access can be slightly BS as the dispensaries tell you that special strains work for you and then are always out of them once you find one you like. You are basically paying to be able to buy more than 1/8 of bud at a time with a med ID. I qualify for a Medical ID but I'm going to skip the $175 appointment and spend it on actual product. DR. Jean Thomas was very professional and supportive as we had a virtual meeting, due to covid. He was very knowledgeable and competent and very kind doctor who made me feel very comfortable. I spoke to Jennifer at the Holistic Center numerous times and she was extremely organized and focused on all the questions I had! Twice I was given an appointment and twice I have shown up to them being closed, despite the appointments being at least an hour before their scheduled close time. I appreciate people wanting to go home early but could you at least have the decency to not make appointments you know you fulfill? I know have spent money twice unnecessarily going back and forth when I am already on a tight budget to afford my medicine, you guys are awful especially because you tried to convince me I went to the wrong location-- I have the email confirmation to prove it, I'm not stupid you guys are just incompetent read more

If you're interested in getting a medical marijuana card, this place gets the job done. Pretty easy experience, no hassle, nice people. Minus one star because (1) they were not clear about the total costs for getting the card--$170, as of last month, for their end, but an additional $50 for the state. And, more importantly, (2) they also were misleading about the time it takes to have your card processed and registration to take effect. The NP who gave the certification said three days for the email; the person who took my money said seven-to-ten. While the latter person was acting on the best information she had, the actual number as of the time of this writing, according to the Cannabis Control Commission, is ten-to-fifteen business days. I hope in the future they stay more up-to-date on current wait times, as their patients base their expectations on their advice. read more

I came in a few months ago to be evaluated for insomnia and my experience speaking with the doctor and receiving my CCC authorization was standard. I paid using my my insurance flex pay so I didn't have to cover the $150+ fee for the appointment. However, later on my insurer asked for an itemized receipt because the digital receipt I received originally didn't have the necessary information on it. The holistic center employees refused to assist me in any way and told me that the digital receipt was the only receipt they had which they can send me. This makes me suspicious that they are running a shady business because they are obfuscating some financial information as it pertains to me, the patient. Nonetheless, I payed this fee out of pocket due to a lack of assistance from the Holistic Center employees whom I contacted multiple times to request this information. Another issue I had was that they allowed me to pay the $150+ fee for the doctor in addition to the $50 registration fee without bothering to tell me that I need an ID issued by the state of Massachusetts. Although I am a resident of MA and can prove it, the CCC (state agency) will not accept me as a patient because I lack the proper identification. This would be fine if they had told me, but I had to find out the hard way after virtually throwing $200 out the window! All that got me is a medical card which is now useless because the CCC deauthorized my patient status despite the fact that they took my money. read more

"Meh, I've experienced better" is exactly how I would describe my two interactions with The Holistic Center. The first is a year ago when I got my initial reccomendation - I moved from California where there are many options in reccomenders and there's not in Boston. As it was the only game in town, I set up my appointment and made it on time (in a downpour, on the bus!), with my forms filled out, for my appointment. And I waited, and waited... I asked about the wait since I had an appointment, and they acted inconvienced at my checking in - after about 20-30 minutes (it was a year ago, I just know I was waiting while one other who walked in was being seen, the staff were chilled out) I was seen for my consultation. As I have a qualifying condition and had medical documentation and have been using this remedy for years, I didn't need to chat much. The rest of the process also seemed slower than necessary. They were nice folks, but sloooowwww, and didn't like my asking about time - they were in their own world. Now to yesterday - I had my renewal appointment. I had called on Saturday to see if they had any openings and was informed that they did not but that I could do my renewal over the phone - great! I asked a few times about the logistics of this because it seemed too good to be true - need any documentation, anything else about a phone call vs. office - nope, just call in. So I called in. No one picked up, but I received a call 15 min after my appt time for my renewal. At the end, I was told the fee was $130. "Why not the $105 as listed on the website and in the reminder email I received for the appointment?" I asked. "Oh, it's in a different email we send out." I then explained I never received that email, nor was I informed when I called the office and was told I could do it on the phone. I was met with defensiveness and told I would get the email where it was mentioned. They forwarded me the email, that in fact is so unclear it does not mention this fee but lists a bunch of fees and options. Nevermind, it doesn't change the fact that the three people/documents I consulted prior to my appointment (the website, the reminder email, or the staff member I spoke with) mentioned this increased fee! Meanwhile, to save the $25 dollars I was told I needed to re-schedule my appointment - a kink in my day as I had set aside the time of the appointment to take care of this and not later in the day. When I noted what good business practice would be to tell the person on the phone, or list it on his website, or list it on the reminder email, he said: "well, we're not supposed to do it on the phone" What?! So instead of not providing this service, you are going to charge more for it and not let your customers be aware of this charge - what kind of logic is that?! He also said I could go elsewhere. (Which is more expensive, because renewals are cheaper when you return to the place.) All the staff needed to do was apologize and say "We're sorry you were not made aware of this additional fee. Our staff member should have told you about it when they offered the option. Let's set up an appointment for you to come in." Here's the thing - many people are not writing reviews as they don't want to out themselves as using MMJ. This place is totally disorganized and dishonest in trying to swindle more money out of folks. I don't like that. If you have an open schedule and don't want to go to an efficent place, this place will work for you. Unfortunately there's not a lot of options. But I've decided to not give my $105 to these folks and hope that recreational comes through soon so this silly protocol does not need to occur for anyone! In MA, we need our actual MDs to make this reccomendation, not these flawed businesses. read more

I went to the holistic center about a year ago. They were professional and very knowledgeable. As an RN with chronic pain ( neuropathy) who had come to the end of my rope, I finally agreed to alternative treatments. They were very helpful and I hope that they and the Commonwealth can continue the practice with people like me. I'm 66 and only used marijuana in college and that wasn't pleasant. With appropriate guidance, it can be a very good additional or solo medication without the side effects( stoned) I've cut pain medication( no narcotics) by 1/2. Since I really need it at night and a little tincture combined works very well together. Thank you holistic center. read more

I have been coming into the Holistic Center for several years now and always have a great experience. The Staff is well informed and polite and always greet with a friendly smile. I am, however becoming disappointed with the daily specials. When you go to the Holistic Center website there is a clear button that shows the daily specials. When you click the button it clearly shows a special for each of the 7 days of the week. However when you try to order from it I am told that they are not offering the Sunday or Friday special. I can understand that these are unusual times with the ongoing contagion but this oversite has been going on for several weeks now. Please, if you cannot or will not honor the specials that are being advertised on your own website then why are you continuing to advertise them? read more

I was a little hesitant about trying The Holistic Center as I hadn't heard of them before. I was pleasantly surprised because they have a professional and kind receptionist and there were more people there than I expected. Dr. Wong is great and really validated my pain which a lot of doctors don't do. He has a subtle humor which I appreciate. The whole experience was thorough, quicker than I thought, and pleasant. I feel so lucky that this is close to where I live. It's conveniently located on the 57 and 86 bus lines. I plan on coming back to renew my card next year. read more

Quick, easy, and friendly. The entire process was explained to me patiently and knowledgeably. It's right on the 57 bus, a little out of the way for Bostonites but you'll be in and out in a flash.
