Put succinctly, this place is woefully inadequate for an elderly home in 2013. A nursing and rehabilitation center should feel warm and homey, but this place has the feel of a hospital more than anything else. This is partially due to the fact that the building was used long ago as a nursing home. We're talking the seventies here, people. Kindred: it's time for an upgrade. While you're at it, you need to employ more staff to care for the residents. One gets the impression, judging by the gauntlet of poor souls forced to sit on alarm-tripped chairs in the hallways, that the nurses at Kindred are enacting this cruel, degrading protocol to cut down on running about from room to room. From the central desk they can keep an eye on more of the heavier care residents as they sit drooling and moaning in the hallways, and so they can manage the place more easily with less people. They wouldn't have to do that, of course, if there was more staff present. Speaking of the staff, I'm not entirely thrilled with them, either. Outside of delivering very cold, condescending communication, I'm not convinced they are particularly skilled or interested in the art of thoughtful care. I called early on Father's Day to let the home know ahead of time that I'd be picking up my father for a family gathering. When I arrived a few hours later, I found him sitting disheveled in that lovely hallway, his pants reeking of urine (he has a catheter they need to change out every so often and somehow they are spilling fluid on him, no doubt due to being rushed). While we are on the subject of urine, I should point out that the halls and rooms invariably smell of it from one degree to another. In speaking with him on that day, I came to learn they don't let him walk around, either. He is forced to sit in a chair or lie down, even though he's not a fall risk. So much for him being allowed the freedom to go outside into the court yard. That was the last straw. A plan was made to get him out of there. The management of this facility--a corporation, of course--obviously has no interest in giving quality care. The objective can only be profit as they warehouse these poor, miserable souls in outdated hospital-like rooms. There is no warmth, no quality care, no passion, and no real comfort to be had here for the one you care about. How many of these elderly patients have been forgotten by indifferent relatives, condemned to rot in this horrible place? Avoid this facility at all costs. I'd further like to reach out to the company behind this operation and invite them to consider changing their ways. There is no excuse for a nursing home to be operating this way in this day and age.

I figured that if any Yelpers out there were in the same boat my family was in about a year and a half ago, this information might be helpful to them. My Grandmother lived at Colony House for about 14 months. She had had Alzheimer's for several years, and it became very unrealistic for her to live at home alone. My family absolutely adored my Grandmother, so it was a painful and difficult decision to finally find a nursing home for her. After visiting a few places, my Mom decided on Colony House. She literally couldn't have made a better decision. Colony House is the most wonderful facility. The have the kindest, most patient, gentle, caring, wonderful people working there. Seriously. My Grandmother got the best care, and always with a very *genuinely* loving touch. The staff (especially the nurses and nursing assistants) that worked with her went out of their way on a daily basis to interact with her, make her comfortable, or just give her lots of hugs. I know this might come off as corny, but there really is nothing more reassuring than seeing firsthand how well someone you love is taken care of by complete strangers. The staff were totally unique in that I have never experienced that type of setting where the staff have such a genuine love for their patients. (And I worked in a nursing home!) They were also incredibly supportive for my family, especially my Mom, who visited my Grandmother every day. They were just awesome. I just couldn't recommend Colony House any higher. The main therapist that works w Yolanda is Judy, and she is so professional and unbelievably versed in every aspect of PT. Her knowledge is expensive !!! For someone who has gone many, many times I didn't think I would learn anything knew, but Judy has certainly opened my eyes. As a patient of ANC in Abington, I have never seen such poor work ethics…read more First and for most I tried to give the office the benefit of the doubt for "accidentally" messing my appointment date up not once, not twice, but three times. When I called the office the staff member was very vague on the phone and not considerate at all. I also found that when meeting with the doctor (2 separate appts-eval/test) There was no time for me to ask the doctor questions, I felt awkward and not welcomed, and the doctors desk and office was messy and papers were scattered all over the desk and some things were scattered on the floor. Working in a medical office myself I have never been more disgusted on how I was treated, and how the presentation of my entry as a new patient was handled. I called to cancel my follow up appt on my EMG results about a month ago, because I knew my results were sent to my PCP who I called and she told me I was good, and the EMG didn't show anything concerning. Just 2 days ago I got a text/email confirmation on my appt, that I cancelled. I called the office because I told them I already cancelled this appt. (the third appt mess up). When the staff member asked why I was cancelling I told her I wasn't sure why I needed to even come in to discuss my results if my PCP got the results, and also if there was no issues, then that is plenty reason to not have to keep the appt. The young lady that I spoke with told me that I was unable to get my results over the phone, and it must be discussed in office. Especially if there was anything major that occurred. I said as a patient calling on MY OWN results I should be legally allowed to know if everything is a clear. I was specifically told by the front desk staff that "the doctor doesn't have enough time to call all his patients on the results and I need to come in the office". Glad the doctor has no time for their patients. Great answer! I said if I am good, then I should be able to get a thumbs up, and if there are issues then I can see why I need come in. The system they are following/trying to do is a joke. They are basically telling me I need to pay ANOTHER copay to come in for the doctor to tell me I am "all set" in 10 mins, to then go home. Keep in mind the doctor gets paid for that visit as well; to read results. Which is exactly how my last two appt went.
