I didn't realize THT closes at Noon but luckily had one day in advance to order pickup (yesterday) in time for my partner's birthday delights! I have once before tried the creme brûlée, limited time only- cronut and whoa they are worth all the hype but ONLY available in person so keep that in mind if ordering for pickup. I also chose classic glazed, strawberry with sprinkles, raspberry jelly, maple eclair (both super yum), red velvet, sugar/cinnamon , blueberry cake and a gigantic apple fritter! I've eaten a lot of donuts in my life but the best I have ever had has come from "the whole thing" They have such a large variety of specialty donuts and items that I found it very hard to choose a reasonable amount I've done it for myself so I ended up purchasing more than $30 worth of donuts lol. needless to say, they were all delicious, fresh and unique. my only complaint being that even though the girl who rang us up was wearing a mask but the two in the back that were handling food were not, well I think one was wearing it on their chin but that doesn't count. Fresh, soft, doughy, cream filled, goodness of donuts is exactly what we enjoyed getting! They offered all the usual suspects but some awesome upgraded donuts. They had the cereal donuts (recommend the fruity pebbles blueberry donuts) as well as the luxury donuts like the barbarian cream. MEDIOCRE at best to be quite honest. Got filled donuts from here which are a decent size, but oh boy were they stale, thick, and dryyyyy. Not to mention some of the donuts had the illusion of being filled correctly, only to bite into them and hit nothing but dough. From a former Gourmet Doughnut Shop owner, I had to stop by and check out this place when I heard that they were going to be featuring their products in my favorite Bubble Bubble Tea house in Terrell. I drove out this morning from Dallas just to try them, and First Things First, the Doughnuts looked and tasted great, I purchased an assortment along with a Coffee and a Brisket bite thing...it was most awesome! I took the box of tasty treats to a friends house and I sat at the head of the table and cut each one into 4 pieces and we passed them around and everyone sampled each product. Overall, I give them a pretty darn high score. I have high hopes for The Hole Thing, and I also support Bubble Bubble in Terrell. Every now and then along comes a small business with lots of promise, and I truly hope these businesses go a long way. Now, for the suggestions to The Hole Thing...(my opinion as a Donut "Doughnut" Aficionado, Entrepreneur, Owner & Operator) Things I learned in my Palm Springs business.) 1. You gotta label your product, "Educate the Consumer" tell them what it is with a simple little label either in front of the display or on a toothpick in the first donut! and take a photo of each and post the menu on FB and YELP and make it memorable. If they like a specific donut, then give the consumer a name and a tasty image that they can remember. 2. When you put your product in the display case, do not smush them against the glass, not pretty! 3. When I GPS'd the address, it took me straight to your competition over at 80 near Wally world...If I did not know better, that is where I would have had my morning donuts and coffee...Get that FIXED ASAP, because you were not easy to find and the parking lot was not easy to navigate, since I was not a local...But I found you and I am glad I did. For those of you asking for 20% discounts, GET REAL people, the donut business is not a huge profit business, and making donuts is time consuming and hard work. Pay the price for a great product and tip the help and help support the small business person in such a difficult market. If you want a discount, go to Lowes and get 5% by using your Lowes card...and don't pick on the hard working donut makers. If you want run of the mill donuts, then go to Dunkin or Kryspy, or Shipleys, or Sunny, all good, but the Gourmet Donut is my preference, we all have preferences and options, I choose to support The Hole Thing. I just moved back to Forney and I decided to give this place a try. It was obvious my kind (African-Americans) was not welcome the moment I walked in. It was 6:00 a.m. when I entered. I was going to buy five dozens of doughnuts for work. I walked into a dim entry where when my eyes got fixed I was staring at a Caucasian woman who gave me no greeting just a cold blank stare. Regardless of her look, I said, "Good morning." No response. She continued to stare. I walked over to the coffee station and grabbed a cup and began to look around for coffee. There was none. The lady offered no guidance as to if and when coffee would be brewed. Yet she continues to stare. Therefore, I canceled my desire for coffee and walked to the counter to be served. The lady met me at the counter by the time I arrived. She was not rude or disrespectful just impersonal. Despite her being impersonal, I made a different purchase buying only one item then I went to another doughnut shop along my route to purchase the five dozen I intended on buying there. Oh, and you have to try the THT sandwich. It's bacon goodness! It's unfortunate that some provided negative reviews of this place based on customer service and mentioned race. I myself am a minority and have never had any issues. With that said, I highly recommend this place to anyone -- race, creed, or color. All I can say is... why was I out all the way in Forney?? JUST FOR THIS DONUT SHOP! Well, all kidding aside, I was in Forney for personal reasons and decided to stop by for some breakfast donuts. I got in through the doors around 5:30am and was so shocked by the welcome I got. Let me repeat... it was 5:30am... being up that early, I was super grumpy and tired I couldn't even fake a smile. I don't know if they were the owners or employees, but they greeted me with a smile and were super helpful. Great customer service! Already a good start! But let me get to the main reason I'm writing this review. THE OREO DONUT. Just mention Oreos and you already have me sold. They crumbled the Oreo on top of the donut with some cream and an Oreo on top. Normally with donuts like this, the Oreo is stale, but this Oreo tasted like it just came out of the box. I ate every single bite with no regrets. My only complaint is that they're not closer to where I live... but if I'm ever back in the area, I definitely will be back to try their other gourmet donuts! read more
