While in the area I stopped in for some breakfast, I can eat breakfast at any time of the day! This place is a cute diner with friendly service. There's plenty of tables and a small bar stool counter if that's what you prefer. I had the Cowboy Skillet and a Tea, my friend had eggs, bacon and pancakes. All the food was delicious. Came in on Memorial Day and was pleasantly surprised that we had just missed the breakfast rush. We were seated, attended to quite quickly & got our beverages very quickly. We ordered our food and within 15 minutes it was at our table. I had the chipotle chicken wrap, which was fantastic. I requested extra onions and they were spot on & the right amount. My husband had the chicken avocado melt and he thought it was really good & he joined the empty plate club for lunch. My daughter had a waffle that she scarfed down and her friend had a cheese omelette that was made to perfection and everybody enjoyed their food. The service was fantastic and it was nice to have the chef come out and ask is how our meal was, which is a rarity nowadays. I would definitely come back! read more

Wife and I used to love this place. Eggs benedict, best around... Then one Saturday morning my wife ordered steak n eggs and I ordered eggs benedict.. Steak was ordered medium rare eggs over medium.. Steak was served well done, like shoe leather and eggs were barely cooked.... Benedict was not the same as usual either, eggs were hard... When we complained we were told, sorry too bad.. No attempt was made to make it right... We will not be back, and to us that's too bad... read more

Pretty typical fare and quality for a small town diner. Not the best, not the worst. Service a bit scarce and uncoordinated at times. (Even when restaurant 75% empty....) Bus those tables! They really need to consider bus bins or trays.... why make 5 trips to clear and set a table? Coffee was solid- good and strong. But creamer curdled in mine. Gross! read more

Oh man!!! What a difference does fresh produce make!! We stopped here on our way to an apple orchard. Early Saturday morning, the cafe had 4-5 locals. We ordered a veggie omelette, grilled cheese sandwich and some pancakes. The eggs were very fresh!! That made the omelette taste extremely flavorful. The pancakes were moist and fluffy, the grilled cheese, just right. Most happy with this local place! read more

The Hinkley Cafe is a great spot for breakfast dates, be it family or friends! The coffee is hot and fresh, skillets are second to none and we are continuously please by the service and cleanliness of this diner. Of all of the places we have visited in search of our go-to spot for breakfast, Hinkley is hands-down the cafe to go. I absolutely love the decor, too. Save your searching and just come in. This is the first cafe that the owner has come out to check on us as well. Managers/Owners touching tables has become too few and far between, so we really appreciate seeing that level of care for the establishment/guests. read more

Tried it for the first time since moving into town. Parking on the street is a challenge. Typical small town diner. Varried menue but greasy tasting breakfast. Service was so so with only one server. When it came time to pay used a credit card and saw a service charge on the charge slip without explanation. When I asked I was told it was for using a credit card to pay. If there was a sign with that information it would have made a difference on how I would have paid cash. Food was ok. Service fair. read more

I've always been a sucker for a good cafe, but I've been to plenty that can't even compare to this place. The service is great and the food is awesome. I'm a pretty picky eater and they never make me feel like customizing an order is any sort of inconvenience. I have spent about 26 years in rural Illinois and there is one fact I know for sure about small towns; when you grow up here there is not much choice when it comes to food, and there is a lot of settling involved. I needed something new, so I called upon my trusty yelp app. and boy did it deliver!! When you first walk in to Hinckley Cafe you feel instantly comfortable. It's all decorated all country like, like the folks here like it. (Yicks I guess red-neckness rubbed off on to me again, sorry!) Our server was down to earth and gave us time to order. I found this place to be slightly vegan friendly as all I had to do with my wrap, "no cheese please" and voila vegan! Fresh fruit instead of fries and I had my self a healthy and reasonably price meal. My husband ordered enough food for an army; I keep telling him he will never eat all of it. Well, I won he didn't eat all of his food, but was "stuffed to the top". Ready for one of the best parts?! 4 people + 3 meals(kids shared) + drinks = 23 bux! Really all THAT good food for 23 dollars!What a steal! I have spend way more on way worse food in the city. Its not to far from Sandwich/Somonauk or Dekalb. It's worth the drive if your coming from either direction. Seriously people, check it out! Really nice diner with food that was far above normal diner fare in quality. I had the stuffed green pepper soup (today's special), which I thought was a really clever idea and clearly home made. This is a restaurant that I have loved and worked in for years . The current owner is a fantastic cook that makes eveything fresh and genuinely wants to make his people happy . When I have customers that don't know exactly what they want , I tell them to make something up ... and Ruben does it ! Yes we cater . Yes we take credit cards . I've only eaten here a couple of times. The lunch fare is fabulous! The service is quick when their not too busy and the food so far as been really good. Not a huge fan of their fish fry special, but we don't eat it that often, so no big deal. It's a great place to go with friends for a quiet, laid back kind of lunch.
