This venue is VERY difficult to work with and I feel their business practices are unethical. I would not recommend this venue.

There are lots of little touches here and there that are very unique and a nod to the past. I love the creaky wood floors and they've done an excellent job of keeping as much of the original architecture and building intact. You definitely feel like you're stepping into a bygone era. They had a full bar and very decent drink prices. I would definitely rent out this venue if I needed a space in the future.

Depending upon your event, there are a couple of areas to choose from, and the outdoor space is simply beautiful. What made this review a 3 instead of a 5 is two things: 1) Parking. It's on-street and not plentiful near the venue. When I attended, I did a terrible thing (because I got so frustrated with driving around the blocks for parking); I parked on the sidewalk. Not the best choice, I admit. Now I know to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of any event there. 2) The chairs. HORRIBLE. I attended a theatrical production as part of the Great Plains Theatre Conference. Including announcements, the production lasted 90 minutes--90 excruciating minutes. To make sure it wasn't just my reaction, I looked around. What I discovered was an audience of so many people moving, bending, adjusting, and re-adjusting in their seats. It's as if the owners of 40th Street said, "What are the cheapest, most uncomfortable chairs on the planet? Yep! Let's buy those!!" If you attend an event here in which you will be sitting for longer than 20 minutes, bring a seat cushion with you. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll note that I'm unforgiving when it comes to uncomfortable seating. This venue had the worst by far. The owners should eat their own dog food and sit in those chairs for at least half an hour just to experience what their guests are experiencing. That said, if you're looking for a place to hold an event--and you want something out of the ordinary and memorable--I recommend 40th Street Theatre. If you're a business and want a get away event where your employees can have some nosh and network, I think it's great for that. Standing, chatting, mixing, mingling--40th Street Theatre hits a home run for that.

Don't do it! We signed our event booking contract for our wedding reception back in November and…read moreanticipated working with the team shortly after to begin planning and designing our special event. We didn't hear from anyone for months. Nothing like adding stress to a bride and groom's wedding! Towards the end of December, we finally pulled the plug and reached back out. Due to personal family situations and the lack of effort or work from House of R - we asked for a refund. After a couple weeks of silence and follow ups, we finally heard back from the team with a confirmation they would issue a refund and stated we should receive within 3-5 business days. The refund NEVER came. Many follow ups, emails, text later - GHOSTED. Thank Goodness our credit card company had out back and was able to dispute the deposit and we got our money back. However, it took 4 months to get to this point. So disappointed. We loved the space and photos of previous work done - but the terrible customer service, zero work done, and lack of follow through with this venue speaks for itself. You've been warned - Just don't waste your time here!

When they say they produce "epic event experiences" they are not kidding - this was a fantastic party! So much thought went into the planning and detail from the décor to the lighting to the food ... there were various Beatles buttons on the tables, drink coasters with song titles, 3 kinds of cake, a bar, charcuterie board, little meat sliders, cardboard cutouts for photo ops, a "phone" to record a message - the list goes on and on. Even the bathroom was decorated and playing Beatles music. The McGuigan Brothers even showed up to play about 90 minutes of Beatles covers (a la their well known Interactive Beatles experience show). The birthday girl had a blast as did her family and friends. Many of us hadn't seen each other in the past couple years and several people even flew into town for the party. This was a great place to host this type of event. I was dropping hints to my spouse that a Bowie themed gathering would be pretty cool someday!!

There was a large seating/ceremony site on the top level and a smaller reception/bar space downstairs. There was even patio space with strung lighting and farm related machinery for photo shoots. I would not recommend this place solely based off of the experience we had at the reception. The bartenders had bad attitudes. The coordinator, Bonnie, was so rude to my family when we had questions about what was included the bar package that was purchased. We also had an issue with items being stolen from the grooms barn. It was our understanding that it was going to be locked during the duration of the reception and it was not. I understand she had a lot on her plate but the attitude of her and her staff really put a damper on the ending of the evening. After speaking with a friend about our experience it came to my attention that they had similar issues with Bonnie during a wedding she attended two weeks prior. I expect a warm and inviting staff who are willing the make the evening special not a staff that makes you feel uncomfortable like you're an inconvenience to them. Again, this place is great for photos but not much more than that.
