The staff are a disgrace and the Manageress should be sacked. What a rude and uncaring person. My husband, daughter and myself took my 83 year old disabled father to the Highdown Hotel restaurant. We arrived at 2.25pm and I waited to be shown to a table while my father slowly struggled with 2 walking sticks from the car to the restaurant. Waitresses were standing at the bar talking, they saw that I was waiting but no one came to show me to a table. At the time I found this quite rude but assumed they couldn't be bothered so decided to look for a suitable table myself. My Father then hobbled into the restaurant, I showed him where I thought we could sit and then went over to the bar to inform the waiting staff. An older lady then promptly told me that they stopped serving food at 2.30pm but that we could come back at 5pm. I informed her that it was extremely difficult for my Father to walk and that he would not be able to come back later (it had taken him supreme effort to make it to the restaurant due to his disabilities) and that as by now it was only just 2.30pm surely she could allow us to have a meal. She refused and rudely informed me that they were not a Toby Carvery. I was so shocked at her uncaring attitude particularly when I discovered that she was the Manageress. I then realised the reason why I had been ignored when I was waiting for a table was so that they could wait until 2.30pm and then refuse to serve me! We have been to Highdown Towers many times in the past and the service has never been great. But as the building and gardens are so beautiful we kept hoping that they may have had a change of staff. However the disgraceful attitude of the current staff and in particular the Manageress has ensured that we will never go back there again!!! read more
