My mum has lived nearby for about ten months, but for various reasons I won't go into, I've only just got around to visiting.
It's such a nice little pub, there's even a parrot. There is a bar area, conservatory and restaurant, and we sat in the conservatory. In the conservatory , you can choose from both the bar menu and restaurant menu, but in the bar and restaurant you get a choice of one menu. My mum ordered scampi from the bar menu followed by carrot cake, my brother had the pork belly starter followed by sirloin steak main from the restaurant menu, and I had the stake wing with gnocchi from the restaurant menu followed by a glass of muscat dessert wine.
The pork belly starter looked amazing and was a nice sized portion. The mains were a very generous size. My brother has the biggest appetite of anyone I know and he struggled to finish the meal. The steak was cooked exactly as he wanted. My skate was wrapped in pancetta, served with gnocchi, a Provencal sauce and a really tasty pesto puree. The skate was so soft and moreish, the gnocchi some of the best I've had and the overall the dish worked really well. I wish I had the appetite of my brother, so I could have finished it.
My mum's carrot cake was called "Flower Pot Carrot Cake" and is served in a flower pot, which is a really nice idea.
For three people it was about £90, including two rounds of drinks, which is great value. The service was friendly and quick.
Oh and for info, they allow dogs in the bar area, which is great in an area where people have a lot of dogs.
The pub has a really good, friendly feel about it, so would highly recommend a visit when on the south coast. read more
