I had the chicken with thyme with butternut squash and carmelized onions. The chicken (leg) was perfectly seasoned with lovely roasted butternut squash and carmelized onions. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal, and the size of the portion of fish with the fish and chips was massive. Great service and ambience. Highly recommend!

We stayed in the Wey room (room #1) which was small, but very lovely. The bed was super comfortable and covered in loads of pillows. We were provided with plenty of towels, a bathrobe and slippers. The hot drink selection was great with a variety of teas and some instant hot chocolate that was actually really nice! Free Wifi was available which is always a plus. The bathroom is pretty tiny, but nothing too unmanageable. Everything was new, clean and modern. Our hairdryer only worked for 1 minute bursts and then seemed to overheat. My partner said she could hear a bit of music from the pub below, but I couldn't hear it at all. In any case, they closed by midnight on a Saturday night which isn't at all unreasonable. We tried two cocktails. The bartender lady made one that was completely different than what we asked for, but was still quite nice. We both loved a passionfruit cocktail! The next morning we went downstairs for breakfast. There was a small amount of cold cereal and fruit on a spread, and a full and varied menu for hot food. I have celiac disease and had enquired about the dinner at the Swan before I knew that my girlfriend had booked it as our accommodation, and they were one of the only restaurants of the 10 I emailed in Arundel who responded to my request for gluten free menu items. While we did not end up having dinner here, the helpfulness continued into breakfast. Our server was very lovely and communicated with the kitchen to provide me with a gluten free fry up. They substituted sausage for more bacon, which is always appreciated! And they even had gluten free toast. I had a lovely meal! Overall, I loved the Swan Hotel. It's perhaps a bit pricey considering how small our room was, but I also understand that for a nice, boutique hotel in the middle of a touristy town, that it was probably market value. I would definitely return and recommend it to friends!

A little overpriced for what it was on the evening menu. Full marks to the staff for being attentive and ensuring that we enjoyed our meal. However, the seating is little uncomfortable and very low. The tables are quite close to each other therefore not affording any privacy. 04/07/2013 Return visit for lunch today..and what a happy event it was. The food here remains outstanding, tasty, well proportioned and is consistently served hot. I cannot emphasize the extremely high quality of The Nelson, and the very low price.! Will return again and again, all the time you keep serving me lunches like today.

what a mess. i have a confirmed reservation. # 19685326141…read more booked for September 7 to 10, 2017. i am traveling from the USA. i booked most of my vacation in smaller private hotels to get the best out of my British experience. being a small private hotel i thought best to check 30 days prior to my arrival. first problem was i found the phone appeared to be disconnected. at least i could not connect. after some thought the next day i searched for their website. SURPRISE !!!! web site says they are closed for renovations. i sent them an email and they respond reasonably fast telling me yes we are closed during the period of your reservation. "oh we told everyone that had a reservation". everyone but me maybe. what a bloody mess. i could have gotten off a plane and arrived at the hotel late afternoon/early evening only to find closed. good luck finding another hotel under those circumstances. after that one email they have not replied to my follow up emails. i guess having darn near screwed up my vacation they decided its best to stick their head in the sand and ignore me. maybe ill go away. this hotel is close to the Goodwood festivals, so during the festival events hotels close by fill up fast. i was able to find a hotel at this late time, but its 254% more expensive and 2 1/2 times the distance to travel to the race track. what a horrible experience.
