I am sorry that I have to give such a bad review but I purchased a Bonsai from them about a month ago, it did not do well. I followed the instructions and returned the plant to them in less than 30 days. No one called me back so I went back to the nursery 2 weeks after dropping it off. I was told the plant was dead, I asked for a replacement or refund which was refused. I was asked if I wanted the bonsai container back and I asked for it back. Really bad customer relations. I have purchased other bonsai from them and had them repot some. I will not go there again. Such a shame. read more

True Bonsai experts and artisans! It was a joy to learn about the Bonsai, it's care, and most of all the beauty of all varieties.

The first time we went, we only made one wrong turn. The second time, we followed the directions of the GPS and she took us in a big square on the wrong side of the expressway before finally going to the south side and getting us to the correct street. From Clarendon Hills Road, turn (east) onto Fern Street which takes you to South Frontage Road. Are we clear now? LOL We were early in the season, so plants and shrubs were just starting to make their appearance. Would a photo of the plant/shrub in bloom help? Absolutely, and "no " it doesn't help to show me a photo on your phone, especially in the glare. We found the staff to be extremely helpful, giving us suggestions and informing us of some of the negatives for each plant/shrub that only someone in the business would know. Our biggest issue was finding something to plant near a walnut tree (our neighbor's, not ours) ~ those suckers do NOT play nice with most plants and shrubs. Is it as large as some of the other local nurseries? No, but if you know what you want, might want, they can show you a picture and most likely be able to order it for you. They offer delivery, removal, and planting services, which is really good because there is no way 60 plants, 2 eight foot Hemlocks, and several other shrubs will fit into my car. We are waaaaaaaaaaaaay past digging holes in the garden and transporting items to plant in those said holes. read more

I've been here twice. Once to buy plants for my new butterfly garden and another to repot a bonsai. Both times the guys there were very helpful. Everything is labeled very well and organized. Went a third time today and spoke with Mark their Bonsai expert. He helped me re-pot two bonsai. He was very knowledgeable and I will be looking into his class he has there as well. read more

The Hidden Gardens lives up to its name- because if you don't know where you are going- you may never find this place. And that might be okay as I like that it is rarely crowded and that you can always find what you are looking for. Here's a hint on making it less "hidden". To explain where it is most easily is that it is on the south service drive for I-55 between Hwy 83 and Clarendon Hills Road. Note- if you are on I-55 (the Stevenson)- get off at Hwy 83 and go south to the first light and turn right. They do request that you use Clarendon Hills road due to the residential area located to the east- but since there is no exit there- Hwy 83 is the better bet. The Hidden Gardens is reasonably priced (for the area) and carries a wide range of annuals, perennials, ground cover, rose bushes, shrubs, etc. I love that there is an old barn and koi pond on the property- it never feels like shopping- more like a day in the country. The old farmhouse is where you check out (once your ticket has been written up by the helpful garden staff) and there are also garden statuary, birdhouses and other outdoor decorations that you can enhance your garden with. With Spring in the air- if you are a gardener like me- you can't wait to get your hands in the dirt and see what your garden will deliver this year. We heard about this place while visiting another nursery. My husband has been getting into bonsai recently so we decided to make the drive to check it out. I suppose it's sort of hidden. You have to drive through a neighborhood to get there. Our GPS lead us right to it so we didn't have any problems. Since our visit was in March there were no other plants out and the bonsai was in a green house. There were tons of different trees. There were indoor and outdoor varieties all at different price ranges. The owner was very helpful and gave us tips and suggestions. We ended up getting a trident maple. Since the quality of the trees were great as well as the service we will definitely be making another visit. read more

If you had to rely entirely on your not -so-updated Garmin, kiss finding this place goodbye! Fortunately I had the previous reviewer's instructions which put me at least in a half a mile's radius of the place. After we found it, and checked out their Bonsai collection, reason we undertook the exploration to start with, it was love at first sight! Very Asian feel and a great assortment of trees, shrubs, pots, tools etc. Prices were half of what you find in the city and. ......they have Bonsai classes! All in all a true hidden gem I too would prefer to keep to myself, but, well, here goes. Enjoy! read more

Great bonsai selection five stars Amt of help two stars, never found them, only saw a guy talking to another guy in front, and he looked like someone who worked there, regardless, I never received any help... Selection (not including bonsai) three stars Maybe cause it's a smaller place, I went for some plants and they didn't have that much of a selection mid June. All the hostas were gone :( Could have been timing, but they need more potted annuals and perennials Maybe I need to give it another chance as there was potential, just timing stunk...who knows. read more

I don't know how I missed this place all these years ! The selection of bonsai material is awesome for experienced people to beginners . Jeff was very helpful and full of knowledge about the plants . There is a great line up of well known artists from around the world scheduled to stop by this year. Stopped in and was just purely amazed!!! Set on a old farm it was great!! Truly a hidden gem!!! That's why it's named The Hidden Gardens. Anything from the trees to the shrubs are great!! They even carry Birdseed now!! I love going to this place its defiantly worth the stop!! Staff is great and very helpful!! The Bonsai selection has grown and is the top shop in Chicago!!! read more
